According to the Smackdown Spoilers, the big prize at the end of the road for the next Tough Enough series isn't going to be a contract, it's gonna be a million dollars.

We'll have to wait for thursday to see exactly how it plays out, but if that's how it goes... then why train to be a wrestler at all? The people who apply won't have any passion for the biz, they'll just be thinking "As long as I get through all the jumping jacks and moonsaults I get money and then never have to worry about this rasslin' crap again." If the focus of the show shifts that much, what makes it any different than some other reality TV show where they make you jump through hoops to get moolah? (You know, like the Diva Search *cough*.)

I'm also curious as to how they plan to 'integrate' TE and Smackdown. A full 30 minutes, or do we just get a 5-15 minute highlight reel of whatever wacky antics the kids went through that week? It doesn't feel like it's living up to the formula if it's just highlights, but they can't possibly carve 25% of their show out like that; the audience at the tapings (presumably) wouldn't put up with less show for the same amount of money.

In short: Sounds iffy. Whaddya think?

I'm all for anything that gets Hardcore Holly out of the ring and into a small gymnasium where he's "training" kids. My fingers are now crossed that Holly is picked to "help out."

I would love to have Taz be one of the instructors. Him and Al Snow. I think if they took a bunch of decent indy guys, and let Taz and Snow at them for 4 or 5 months, they might be able to get some decent talent, instead of letting nobodies in who cant fathom how to do anything.

Actually though, when you look at the TE winners, Maven seems okay, but always gets hurt or has a personal issue that holds him down. Nidia is, well, Nidia. She was great with Jamie Noble and seems to be benefiting from being around Fit Finlay some.

The next two winners, well, should I say "winners" have done nothing.

Jonny Nitro seemed like he could have been a decent little sneaky heel cruiser, so what do they do? Send him as an on air guy on Raw. I havent seen the other guy, so I cant comment.

I don't think he really like doing it the last time. People beating people up for real because they're angry curmudgeons is so passe anyway.

I don't think you're going get just the Money Hungry Fame Whores in this contest because a contract isn't on the line. Plenty of people who didn't win contracts Tough Enough have gotten jobs anyway because they impressed the WWE enough during their Tough Enough time.

Anyone who shows enough potential and intelligence to be worth more time during the contest will eventually get developmental deal. It doesn't cost much (if they signed 10 people, that's only about the cost of the Diva Search Prize) and they'd already have a read on them.

TE has/was/is akin to American Idol in this sense where getting a contract for winning is no biggie because we all know the runner up is going to get a contract too. Everyone besides Maven (and to a lesser extent Nidia) has had their Tough Enough past wiped away from their character's history, so there's no notoriety bonus to be named champ. Might as well make the prize be money.

I think they're doing 5 minute segments similar to the Diva Search stuff and I think it'll work as well getting people over as the Diva Search. And I think if Al isn't involved, WWE and I can't be friends any more.

Yeah, but if they're not planning on trying to make them wrestlers, they don't have to train them as wrestlers either. They can make them go through some crazy hoops to become the winner, including being Bob Holly's personal punching bag.

What might be funny is if some actual active wrestlers applied under the reasoning that they aren't making that much money now anyway, they'd have an advantage over the pack, and hey...it's a million bucks without having to put up with the backstage politics for the next decade.

I have to wonder how the guys that are on the WWE roster already will feel about some nobody successfully training to be a wrestler and geting a million bucks, more than most of the active roster makes. If I was in their posirion, I'd probably be pretty pissed.

Hardcore Holly has got to be one of the trainers. He is the best thing about Not Tough Enough. It's a good thing he hurt Matt Campenella before he infected our TV screens just like Johnny Nitro. What a waste of time John Halligan Nitro was.

Let's decide on a winner of TE4. Give him his cash money and make him the champ of a TE Fed. Move Maven, Jacky, Johnny Handicap, and the rest of those losers of that show and give them a time slot opposite TNA. The competition will be head to head and the talent level will be more even.

Well, considering you got neither of the contestants names right, I don't know how much credence I can put into your opinion.

Methinks you may have spelled them wrong on purpose, but I don't know what purpose that would've served.

That is the stupidest thing I've read today. I mean, just "It's a good thing he hurt Matt" - do you read what you write and agree with it? Does the rest of that indicate you actually believe Johnny Nitro was writing skits for Johnny Nitro? It's amazing.

Someone's going have to educate me, because I can not understand the hatred and ill wishes to people who you don't even know - people who DO NOT EVEN EXIST YET, because they haven't even started recruiting people - for being in a contest you haven't even seen yet. Yes, sure, certiantly, if there's ever time to wish physical harm on a person, it's be for someone you don't know doing something you haven't seen.

Please don't let my sarcasm disguise my deep dislike for this viewpoint - what the heck? I don't see why wanting to win a million dollars is worth a beatdown of any size or scale. Yea, it sucks for the wrestlers, but it's going to suck for them if the eventually winner took part or not, if I took part or not, or if you took part or not. Particpation isn't worth hatred.

If you hate the concept, vent towards the people who came up with the concept, not the people who take advantage of it.

While I've certainly got nothing against any of those Tough Enough participants and certainly none of the winners, I can't get over the rampant stupidity of giving the winner 1 million dollars. Talk about an immediate test of their dedication to the business.

Making the contracts the incentive weeded out just about anyone who was in it to be anything but a big star for WWE. I'm sure many people just wanted to be on TV, but they weren't getting any guarantee of big money or superstardom, only the worst possible deal the best company offers. Those who had no appreciation for wrestling were eliminated, eventually coming to the conclusion that it wasn't worth it. The people who won, who stuck it through, really did end up seeming to care about the business.

When you make the prize one million bucks, you change the dynamic completely. Behind door number 1, you have a million dollars! Behind door number 2, you have a million dollars, and the ugliness of a developmental contract (little TV exposure, moving to Louisville {away from home}, busting ass) and the eventual "reward" (being called up, constant travel, working through injuries).

Ever heard the phrase: Take the money and run?

The winner could certiantly take the money and run, but I'm going to presume they're not going to allow someone who's seems like they're going to do that.

Just like the Diva Search, they'll be able to pick 10 people who have whatever qualities they want; if they want 10 guys who would give up that $1,000,000 for a shot in WWE, I have no doubt they'll be able to find them. And, regardless of the system for voting off people*, they'll surely work hard at kicking off people who aren't in for the right reason, as they've done this week with Carmella

I totally agree that there's a chance of someone taking the money and fading off into the sunset, but I think a good portion of the competition will be directed into weeding out the people who might do that.

* - I don't know if it's a phone poll or Al kicking them off - once again, I must reiterate, if Al Snow does not particpate in this, there's something tragically wrong here - but I assume we'll find that out pretty soon.

I understand what you're saying but I point back to previous examples of guys who got a lot of money very early on in their careers.

Brock didn't seem like a guy who would take the money and run, but he did. Yes I know, everyone will be quick to say he actually gave up money to play football and he did...while sitting on the mountain of cash he had already been paid as a wrestler. If he hadn't made as much as he did, he simply would not have been in a position financially to bail. Being that he earned this money in no way proportionately to what he actually drew, this one was hard to predict but WWE is not learning from it.

Then there's Goldberg, who became a big star. Again, he made all that cash in the biz so fast and ultimately decided he didn't care so much about the biz. He's only in it for money and he can call his own shots because he's damn wealthy.

To get Brock/Goldberg rookie year money, for training alone, is going to really test some people's drive. I don't know how you can prepare for that contingency. It's really not possible to predict what someone is going to do with a million smackers. Money changes people.

The winner isn't just handed a million dollars. They get a million dollar *contract*. They have to stay with the company for four years to collect the full amount of money. (I'm not sure what the provisions are for the event of injury and such, but if they quit they certainly won't continue to be paid.)

I liked TE but I didn't really see the point in another season and I certainly don't see it as part of SD. It would have been better to do a season where more experienced indy wrestlers compete for a WWE contract; that way the training sequences and such would have been more different from the other seasons, and perhaps more interesting as well.

Off topic from TE...

The genius that is WWE has it backwards. You call in to VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE. Nobody at home knows who ANY of these women are. Honestly, we get 10 seconds a night to actually meet these people, and they all do and say the same stuff so I can't tell one apart from the other. The only thing I'm going on here, is looks...

However, by repeatedly mentioning Carmella, now as a fan I have a name I can identify with. If their system was voting AGAINST the person you want gone - then you're set. Carmella's toast next week. However, by mentioning her over and over you've made her the most recognizable name in the contest, and when you call in to vote for your favorite, she's the name you'll know!

I imagine they'll rig it to get rid of her anyway, if they really want her gone - but their tactic was ass backwards.
