It's far from a done deal, but at least this is looking than more like the "overexcited fan rumor" that this was for quite a while.

FvsJ was probably my favorite movie last year. If this sequel happens, my only gripe is Raimi wouldn't be directing it, and I'm not sure if the Ash character would work with anyone besides him directing. But there comes a point where you stop worrying about it being a super-high quality film and just say "f**k-it, this would be cool to see."

Regardless, if the film happens but it fades out on HHH holding the belt over all three of them...I will be very upset.

I have never seen Evil Dead.

I would have no interest in "Ash".

My interest in Freddy vs Jason was so great I was off of work the day it came out. My interest would grow in a sequal, that would be compelling, but even more so to add other 80's icons:

Leatherface
Mike Myers
Chucky

or add

50's icons
Dracula
Wolfman
Frankenstein's monster
Mummy

Let's hold off on Abbit and Cosettlo and Three Stooges for the time being.

Leatherface is a 70s icon, not 80s, and if you like horror but haven't seen Evil Dead, you should really, really work on that. It's a classic.

SC is right. Just don't go into the Evil Dead films/Army of Darkness thinking it's going to be the same thing as a Friday/Nightmare movie.

...it's better.

Ok, obviously that's a matter of taste, but the ED movies have always had a VERY strong cult following and the Freddy/Jason/Ash matchup would draw the biggest response from horror fans, as opposed to just throwing in a generic "monster" like Dracula or Frankenstein...I can't even begin to imagine how crappy that would be. Michael Meyers or Leatherface would be interesting, but since this would be a sequel to FvsJ they kind of need to add a hero element to the heavy-hitters to avoid just repeating the first film in a three-way format this time.

Myers and Leatherface never descended into self-parody the way Freddy and Jason did (and the way Ash started out), so they wouldn't work at all in this kinda tongue-in-cheek production. Ash, however, is the PERFECT anti-hero foil and I am already salivating at the prospect. If there isn't an S-Mart-destroying three-way brawl between them I will be very disappointed.

Bring on the new cross-over movie genre! Any cross-over, no matter who the participants, I likes it ... Hell, they could even bring this to the big screen and I'd watch it :

Maybe they could combine Freddy and Jason with the new Scooby-Doo movies. It'd be worth it just to hear Freddy say, "...if it weren't for you damn kids!"

Checking the other links at the above provided site, Bruce Campbell said that this crossover is unlikely. Looks like we'll have to wonder what might have been.

The one-liners in this movie could be the best ever..
"claws..knife..I'm the guy with the gun"
Ok..that wasn't that good *grin*
I assume that if Raimi gives them the rights to use ED/Ashe, he will make sure they use the character in the right way, thus he might have something to say about the direction it goes and how good/bad it becomes.

Heh..I wonder if it will start by having Ashe read from the book and get sucked into a different world again..

Let's hope Bruce is blowing smoke in our eyes and it will happen. It was great to see him in Spidey-2 as the snooty usher..made the movie for me ;)

They need to have Jason continuing his murderous ways in the woods around Deerbourne, only to have Freddy return from the grave looking for vengeance after the righteous ass-whupping he recieved in F Vs. J. THEN the two of them take their fight into the town...and into the local S-Mart, where they both meet more than they bargained for. Simplicity itself.

THIS FILM MUST BE MADE.

Newer info from Cinescape Online:

The rumors about FREDDY VS. JASON VS. ASH are true. Today's Hollywood Reporter confirms that New Line Cinema has entered discussions with director Sam Raimi, the fellow who helmed the three EVIL DEAD pictures and who owns the copyright to Ash, the sarcastic hero of the DEAD trilogy. If a deal can be reached, Ash will go up against the two horror slasher icons in the sequel to last summer's FREDDY VS. JASON. In that case, it's expected that Bruce Campbell will strike a deal to play Ash for the fourth time. It's unlikely that Raimi would direct the film; he's got plans to helm SPIDER-MAN 3 (set for release in May 2007), but Raimi would likely take a producing credit on the VERSUS film.

Last seen on-screen in 1993's ARMY OF DARKNESS, Campbell's Ash has remained a popular cult hero amongst the horror fandom. The rumors about Ash being added to the fray first popped up at Creature Corner a year ago this month and were then revisited by Fangoria in October 2003.

Reporter adds a new item by stating that if a deal cannot be worked out with Raimi, New Line will still continue to develop FREDDY VS. JASON 2, possibly by introducing a new antagonist for the two killers to face off against.

Did you watch the same Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 that I saw? Or those weird, straight-to-video Halloween movies that involved some sort of cult or something? Unintentional self-parody is still self-parody.

None of the Halloween films has ever been straight to video. I believe you're thinking of Halloween parts 4 (The Return of Michael Myers), 5 (The Revenge of Michael Myers) and 6 (The Curse of Michael Myers), in which they tried to explain that Michael was controlled by/killed people because/was super strong because of the Thorn cult.

I would direct you here (halloweenmovies.com) for more information.

What? Obsession? I don't know what you're talking about. I don't not own all of the Halloween, Friday the 13th, and Nightmare on Elm Street movies on DVD.

Very true, but whilst the latter Freddy and Jason films were winking at the audience and screaming "Hell yeah this is bad!" the Halloween and TCM sequels were just plain awful. That's why the characters of Freddy and Jason still have huge cult followings whilst Michael nd Leatherface are kinda left out in the cold. PLUS, both Halloween and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre were full-on AWESOME horror movies in their time, whilst there was always a whiff of cheese about teh Friday and Nightmare franchises; I'd rather not see the first two's legacies tarnished even further by deliberately turning them into jokes.

According to some things that I've read, one of the endings considered for Freddy vs. Jason involved Pinhead:

However, New Line didn't like the idea because they didn't like the fact that they'd have to buy the rights to use the character, and they thought Pinhead was too low rent.

Of course this is the trivia section of IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0329101/trivia) but I read it on a more reputable site months and months ago.

Anyone who calls a Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie starring Mathew McConhay and Renee Zelwigger not tongue in cheek, or making fun of itself should no longer watch horror movies.

JvF 2 should include someone else, but the character of Freddy is hard to mix with one person let alone two super villains. Pinhead would be a good choice, just only because of his location.

Mike Myers and Jason going to sleep at the same time to beat on Freddy is not "realistic" enough for me. If Pinhead grabbed them both and pulled them into Hell, you would have a great movie.

Yeah, that was actually talked about on the FvsJ DVD. It would have been interesting, but New Line was right in this case, Pinhead isn't really on the same level. Freddy & Jason are Hogan & Flair....Pinhead is Jake Roberts.

I still like the Ash idea after considering other options. Adding a hero to the mix would make it a lot more interesting than throwing yet another villain into the mix. For a while I thought wouldn't work since Ash is just too goofy of a character to work, but it's not like Freddy hasn't been cracking bad jokes for several movies now. Jason's the only serious character out of the three.

For a while I thought Campbell would never even think about it, but looking at the newer reports it at least looks like he's considering it, so what do I know.
