Last night a really, really, really faggy gymnast won the floor exercise for Canada. In addition to having an exemplary floor routine, he was indeed, very faggy.
EDIT: I'm also not exactly sure how to deal with the fact the a WHITE GUY for the US (white guys from Eastern bloc countries don't count) won the 400 meters. How'd that happen?! (Answer: He ran really fast.)

And so far the only medals Canada has in REAL sports are a silver in women's wrestling and a silver in 4-man rowing. Wow.
The impressive thing about the 400m is that Americans took ALL THREE podium sports. The 4x400m relay will be very, very interesting. | Merc

Never have I seen a team so happy to go from 5(?)-0 to 5-1. But it's freaking unbelievable how good the US team was. The Aussie pitcher (Harding) hadn't been scored on in any previous games and was just shaking her head after a couple of hits, especially the 3rd base from the US absolutely SMASHING it right over the mound outside left.
EDIT Cos I was still last: The Aussie Baseball team has just rolled Japan 1-0 in the 1st(Japan) Vs 4th (Aussies!) semi final meaning we play off for GOLD. Most likely silver I think, but if we can roll Japan, we can roll Cuba or Canada, right?

Does rythmic gymnastics count as an olympic sport if your country sucks at it?
It stands to reason that a country where you dodge sharks at the beach and crocodiles in the rivers would have good swimmers.
Watching the Greco-Roman wrestling I am surprised there arent more gay wrestlers.

As much as I hate to say it, Hamm should keep his gold. Bart Connor said it best on CNN this morning: Hamm worked his butt off his whole life for the moment (and, logically, so did the South Koreans) to be asked to give a medal back because judges screwed up?

This is complete BS...Hamm did NOTHING wrong. What's next, a pissing match over the judging?
Fine...Hamm gives up the gold, the US files a complaint about the S.Korean's four "rest stops" during his routine. Will they make HIM give back the gold?
The judging needs to be cleaned up, and the starting point assignment for routines needs to be revamped. But to punish Hamm for their f-ups is rediculous. I feel so bad for this kid right now to work towards this, and then made to "feel bad" about celebrating his victory.

If they want to re-assign medals based on correcting judge's errors during the competition, then they better review the tapes, too. I hear there's little things the South Korean gymnast did during his routine that he should have had minor penalties for...but those penalties were never assessed. Hence, his score should be lower, degree of difficulty on the high bar be damned.

The judges don't just suck at the Gymnastics either. Boxing and Tae kwon do are both having serious problems with judging. Personally watching some of the diving scores, I wonder about that too. One guy last night got 9.0 - 9.5 from every judge, except one who gave hime a 7.5. At least in diving they drop that score, but how do you explain that big a discrepancy? Being an Aussie, I must question the Walking judges too. Our guy got disqualified from 2nd place after 33 kms yesterday. I heard that too and wonder how long it will take for him to come through as hes 96kg (200+ US pounds)
I also wonder with the current Mid East tensions and VKMs desire to feud nationalities against each other how long before The Great American Hero Kurt Angle will be in a feud with him.

| #95 Posted on 28.8.04 1001.02 Reposted on: 28.8.11 1003.32 | Really late last night, Bob Costas did a short interview (Via satellite!) with Paul Hamm asking what he meant when he said that he would give up his gold medal if the committee told him to. Hamm replied that he wasn't saying that he thought the Korean did a better performance than him, but that due to the judges screwing up so much, if it was decided that in complete fairness, the Korean DID do better point wise after reviewing the tapes, and the olympic committee says they screwed up and said to give it back, then he would.
It's like they don't want to correct their own fuck up; they're making the poor schmuck who works his ass off to win a medal do their work for them.
You REALLY gotta feel sorry for these two guys.

On a small tangent here, am I the only person who seems to absolutely HATE watching the olympics on US television? I'm noticing that if we are not in any way going to win a medal in an event, NBC blows it off in a lousy two minute segment or with a short remark from one of the announcers. We are NOT the best at EVERYTHING, you know.
Also, how the hell did the womens futbol final get condensed into a three and a half minute segment? This should have been an extremely exciting game to watch, but NBC screws it up by showing MTV type flash cuts of ONLY the US team playing. I felt like throwing a brick into my tv while watching that.
These games haven't been all that fun to watch this year. | PerthHeat

I agree with you, with the exception of swimming and track, the rest seems like a long version of Sportscenter. But then again, when you have 20 to 25 differant events happening on a given day how do you please everyone? Possibly by cutting back on the dramtic interviews and documentieries, but it's a buisness first and a sport second.
I liked the Olympics Triplecast they ran with the 92 games, but that was way ahead of it's time, and did such horrible buisness they were giving it away for free on my cable system. Since technology has caught up with the idea, maybe they will run it again in 2008. | Vgmastr

Actually, I invested/wasted 3.6 hours watching the 50km walk, and it wasn't *that* hard to tell when people were breaking form.
Incidentally, while the zenlike state of nirvana that can be reached at 5am from watching a 50km walk (as opposed to, say, meditating) is certainly a great feeling to have...I'm still glad they only show stuff like that once every four years.
