She was absolutely wonderful -- I think I've seen every show she's ever done, & own nearly all her books. The first "gourmet" things I ever made came out of her books, because of her shows. And I still rely on her recipes & techniques all the time.

(D'ya suppose there'll be any good food at the wake? :-) )

There would be no Food TV without her. So she gave us Good Eats, Emeril, Mario and Ming, Iron Chef (yea!) and Bobby Flay (bastard!).

Wasn't she the first PBS celebrity?

She lived a good 91 years. Definitely worth a tip of the cap.

It's up to Jacques Pepin to carry the torch now.

The first thought that came to me was the SCTV bit with "battle of the PBS Network Stars" and the Mr Rogers vs Julia Child boxing match.

Watching Julia Child cook on WTTW when I was a young kid spurred me into wanting to actually cook stuff other than Macaroni & Cheese today.

I'll always remember the turkey incident when it dropped on the floor and she shrugged it off. That's what I loved about her.

My vision is Dan Akroyd doing his imitation on SNL when he had the spurting blood bit.

"Save the liver!"

Child loved the parody and spoke fondly of it.

It's always a shame to lose someone who knows better than to take themselves too seriously.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought of that.

Her long and pretty darn healthy life is the best argument I can imagine for ingesting all the rare red meat, real butter, French pastries and good wine you can get your hands on. I'm a whole-grain type for everyday, but for special occasions, I still pull out "Mastering The Art of French Cooking" and go to town. To hell with vegan diets and fake low-fat, sugarless nonfoods; live to eat well!
