Perfectly said. In addition to that, have you ever tried to write a columnist and offer them opinions on how to improve their columns? Hardy is being very, very gracious, in my opinion. AB's column was well-put together, but Ashish's claim that he touched a nerve with Hardy is giving a little too much credit.

I thought I was the only one who noticed the link to the column sent you to a column from last year.

I'd like to read his commentary in whole because I'm thinking of doing Phantom Lord vs. Matt Hardy 2. I needed a reason and Matt going off on Asteroid Boy is more then enough of a reason.

We support the fucking product by watching it and ordering the ppv's and buying the merchandise. We more then have a right to complain when we see fit.

It's a message board, everybody have nicknames, that's normal.

However, in wrestling websites (or any websites for that matter), I find it hard to take seriously a column written by "Asteroid Boy", "The Blue Lizard" or "Pureoresu Maniac".

Like I said, not a knock on the writer or anything.

I really do think Matt's rebuttal was more of a case of "What does the internet know?" and mistaking criticism for his character as criticism for him as a person.

But no matter how neutered his character his, his wallet is healthier than ever. So good for him.

P.S. Can I have a dollar for everytime someone plays the "YOU MADE ME COME OUT OF LURKING TO BRING THE HAMMER DOWN!" card? Those are almost as good as farewell threads.

Sorry to digress, but as a columnist myself (my first 411 piece should be up any minute now hopefully) it's pretty frustrating to get emails like 'maybe you could write about such and such' or 'maybe you could use more humour' etc etc. Constructive criticism is good, saying what you liked and disliked, but trying to offer a columnist advice on how to improve is pointless, because any good writer knows that you can't force yourself to write in a certain way and be successful. It's like trying to force poetry and always reaching the 'cat/rat/mat/hat' rhyming scheme.

I usually give people who do this the 'Thanks, but no thanks' treatment since 90% of the time it's because they did enjoy something about your work, they just felt ONE thing was missing, and obviously because they care enough to write in. The other 10% are self-important assholes who think they're journalists because they were published in the letters section of their local newspaper and only THEY know how to write.

The point of this post: Tell the writer what you dislike, but don't tell him how to do his job.

As for the actual topic, all I gotta say is what wrestler are INSIDEPULSE feuding with?!!? Huh?!

I agree with Gagnon. It's impossible to take someone who calls himself "Astroid Boy" in a serious manner.

"I'm thinking of doing Phantom Lord vs. Matt Hardy 2."

What a marquee matchup.

"We support the fucking product by watching it and ordering the ppv's and buying the merchandise. We more then have a right to complain when we see fit."

And all of our complaints are automatically valid no matter what they're about.

Dear Jamie Noble,

I feel sorry for you, man. You've given up the jean shorts. We all loved the jean shorts. Your new tights are like a mouth full of sores. A mouth full of sores ain't no fun. Until you realize that, you're just pissing me off and fucking things up. I want you to succeed but I also want you to kiss my ass!

Good luck keeping your job,
Justin

I think that Hardy's column may have been taken down because he said he'd be out for 6 months after the Kane match, possibkly giving away the finish to the match.

Excellent point. Doesn't make much sense to post the result of a match (and their number two angle)for a show they expect people to pay $35 (700 Canadian) for.

However, let us all pretend the wrestlers sit around and care about us in the IWC...it's a good dream.

Leggo, I may not have made myself clear. By saying that, I was drawing a comparison to the multitude of people who piss on the product. We all have a right to our opinions, but columns that try to tell the bookers, workers, et al, what to do represent the epitome of arrogance. That was the analogy that I was drawing. Constructive criticism is great - comparing a guy's girlfriend to a credit card and saying that she's always good for an easy lay is not.

I do understand that many here support the product by buying PPVs and tickets. That is a valid point. I just think that Hardy is 100% correct in stating that more effort needs to be focused on the positive.

Or I might have just skimmed over your post and seen something I could've commented on. Damn me and my ADD to hell!

Sorry, but when I'm paying for PPVs and tickets, I believe I've every right to be as negative as I want.

In Asteroid Boy's defence, I don't think he was telling anyone what to do, but more expressing his frustration at Matt's new character direction. I agree that fantasy booking, open letter columns etc. represent the word mundane proudly, but this is not one of these cases.

Constructive criticism is great - comparing a guy's girlfriend to a credit card and saying that she's always good for an easy lay is not.

But the storyline portrays Lita to be an easy lay. Am I supposed to feel sorry for her because she jocked Kane's dick and forgot the rubbers? Sorry but I don't give away sympathy for free.

That is probably the best way I've heard this angle summed up yet.

Well I got a shitload of feedback from my readers and I have more then enough ammunition to tear apart the DNA Testing of the fetus.

The Google Cache search for the column turns up a blank now.

It had to be pulled down because it gave away the ending of the match...as if we didn't see it coming a mile away.

My friend who is down in The Valley said it best about Matt this morning. "Matt thinks he's bigger star then he really is".

God Bless Matt for giving us something to write about.

Actually, Matt's injury doesn't really give away the result of the match. Who's to say that Matt doesn't pick up another fluke win, marries Lita and uses the 6-8 months recuperating as a 'honeymoon'. This would give him time to recover, take Lita off TV while she is apparently being physically affected by the pregnancy (rather than making her throw a pillow up her top instead), and...well that's it. I'm still not sure that Kane winning is a foregone conclusion.

And Matt Hardy *never* gets that.

After reading all of this, articles included, I think AB makes very good points and just picked the wrong semantics. I'll agree that the lines might have been blurred with Matthew on the whole Lita/Amy thing. AB was not talking about Amy Dumas -- he's talking about why a sub-par vehicle that "Matt," "Lita" and "KANE" are in is stalling and hurting Matt Hardy's career.

Matt's probably frustrated from injury, and after seeing the article, reacted the wrong way.

While I don't think responding to make this a possible feud is the greatest, IMO, AB has every right to. I mean, hell, I'm still giggling over the Krugman/O'Reilly "debate" on Tim Russert's CNBC show... and this is starting to sound a little bit like it.

That's how I see it. For all the time most of us spend wondering if anyone wrestling even reads what we wrote, if nothing else AB has no doubts. I seriously doubt anyone in his spot would have not responded back.

Ergh.

Honestly this thread is giving me a headache trying to keep track of what version of Matt Hardy we're talking about.

Are we talking about Matt Hardy, the columnist? Matt Hardy, the boyfriend? Matt Hardy, the character? And how do I tell?

While I'm asking that question, how can you criticize how a person looks on TV when they (from what I've seen) dress very similar off TV, and then say you're only talking about how bad the onscreen character looks?

Oh and how is traveling together character related again?

Everything was referring to their characters. Hell, I don't know any of them personally, why would I even care to write about that?

Another thing I learned: if a reader has a nickname like TwistedAngel1974, JenV1Mattitude or Thugonomics87... you can pretty much guess their response

(It usually involves the word "bitch" and a challenge to fight.)

Right. Like no one around here talks about anything noncharacter related (aka glass ceilings and Triple H holding people down, ratings, people transferring from Smackdown to Raw to be with their real life significant others).

And then as I alluded to before:

How can that be "only" a reference to the character of Lita and not a reference to Amy Dumas?

AB, great article. For me the message in it is spot on, even though I think some miss the main point(including Matt). I think the meat of the article is that the Matt & Lita on screen partnership doesn't benefit Matt anymore (debatable if it ever did, but especially now it doesn't). I think this thread turned into a interesting twist with the discussion of lines being blurred... The thing is Matt's in a real relationship with Lita. I'm sure he thinks they're the best couple since Joseph met Mary. He sees his main fanbase who post at XtremeLIta board who really has a reality/character perception problem as they take this relationship way too seriously & have a unhealthy desire to see it played out on TV. Problem is majority of wresting fans see this duo as a stale played out couple that ran it's course in '02. Matt takes it as a personal slight at his real life, which we are just looking at TV characters.

I do disagree that no romance story gets over in The E. I thought Kurt/Steph/H was very good, also Y2J/Trish/ Christian(up until WM). It had nothing to do with them being real couples, they had good characters that mixed well in the angle. Steph torn between a nice & charming Kurt or the man who was first to bring her into her bad girl independence. The other one is bad boy Y2J torn between goody-good girl Trish who wants to change him & longtime friend Christian who's just selfish & if he's not happy he doesn't want his friend to be happy either... Kane/Lita/Matt makes no sense, Lita keeps quiet about Kane baby when Matt proposes yet she's a Face? Matt rams a cage door to her head & gets her fired, yet that's forgiven. Now it's back & forth with "I don't want anything to do with you" & "Let's get married". Kane is most normal one of the bunch, now that's scary.

Matt channeled Benoit & talks about loving how to prove people wrong using examples as "I won a worked match v. Kane on a PPV which my girlfriend all but won for me" & the next night when she said "Matt's more man cause he can fight his own battles" left the crowd baffled. Matt should see Benoit, I'm sure Chris loves Nancy/Woman alot but there was a time in Chris' career he had to make it on his own. I like the example of DDP, he had a decent mid-card career going with the Kimberly. But to see his full potential he took a chance & reinvented himself for the better... Not all women are bad, Steph helped H a lot, Liz/Randy, Certain other women helped guys. But Lita doesn't add to Matt, there's a reason Mattitude took off, he didn't drink charisma juice or became so much more of a better wrestler. All he did was step out of the shadow, it's called addition by subtraction. No offense to anyone, just see the pattern.

What I did take a little offense too is when Matt says "This is the best spot I've been in my singles career" At least he says singles as I'd rip him in for undermining the amazing work he and especially his brother did with E&C and the Dudleyz. But even saying singles career, I still can't believe he thinks this is better then his strong Mattitude run on SD, especially the U.S title tournament & his match with Benoit, even I who's never been a huge Matt fan even during Mattitude days was impressed... But he thinks this is better? The Raw equivalent of Dawn, Torrie & Al Wilson SD storyline. Just because something is on a high spot on TV doesn’t make it good or quality or even worth-while. Wow Matt loves not wrestling on Raw TV for months & acting like Ricky Ricardo whenever Lucy does something stupid by putting his hands on his head with a angry/shock face saying "Oh Lita what did you do". Yeah nice work.

AB I congratulate you on a job well done. One thing that really stood out in your 1st column was 2 words "Blame Matt" which too many people are so quick to blame glass ceiling, H or Steph's fault, but at times you have to put the mirror up & ask "What did I do wrong". No, I don't think Matt wrote himself into this angle, but I do think his actions & decisions he made dominoed himself into this angle. But if he's cool with it, then there's no problem. I have no idea why he's so upset over what some "kid" writes about him(oh yeah I forget he found it comical, right)... My favorite part was when Matt attacked AB for using a crowd sign as an example of Lita popularity with the fans going down. Same Hardy who used crowd signs as 1 of 3 reasons why Lita is so fantastic, Hypocrisy much Matt? Oh, I would laugh if a divasearch gal surpasses Lita, but she's got alot of action figures to catch up to her greatness
