"But..."
(*clash*)

Well, JS2 is now over and certainly went out on a high note. The biggest question I had was how are they going to let Tim and Amanda down but still keep up the suspense. The limo gimmick really had me hooked there. Tim and Amanda each got into a separate limo under the instructions that if Austin or Piper were in the limo, they had been chosen to be the final suitor. When both were empty, I thought that was it, but no.... :-)

I really was feeling for Amanda there, as she really seemed to be disappointed that there was no Austin in the limo. Tim had thought he was finished once before, so he seemed to be taking it more in stride. By the time Ausin and Piper were revealed to be in the limos, I was really feeling for them. Now Tim is clearly thrilled that Piper picked him and Amanda was all smiles as well.

I thought the dress up dinner was a really cute touch that neither Tim or Amanda questioned at all. By this point, they'd seen enough weird stuff that they jumped right in and were ready to turn the tables. I was laughing out loud at the wine chugging by the ladies when Austin asked about how long Amanda would take to answer a marriage proposal. And then in an even more surreal moment, they...

Play Badminton?!?

Come on guys, it's not that hard! :-) I'm sure that they had planned on Amanda not being mobile enough to stay on her feet in that costume and were just biding thier time until she fell to have Austin catch on. It felt very organic, but the setup was perfect. Two more really fun spots for that scene were a couple of lines.

Tim's brother: "I just met him and I think he's a pompous ass"

Austin: "That didn't look anything like you!"
Amanda: "Thank you so much for saying that!"

After a final falcon twist, complete with the "special effects" version of Montecore, the $100,000 prize was revealed to Austin and Piper and we see one more pair of alone times for Tim and Amanda to explain things. Amanda was really interesting here and Austin's interview said it all. You really couldn't tell if she was in it for the money at this point or not. Tim, however, is hooked.

As everyone (sans Bryce) arrives for the promise ceremony, the producers needed one last heart stopper and sure enough Amanda recognizes Rita as a comic from Los Angeles. It's a very good thing that she wasn't our original Jane Schmo, or she would have just been a DVD extra. Thankfully Tim was paying too much attention to the other guys walking in and missed it completely.

Austin hit a home run here, made even funnier with the editing I eluded to above, with his back and forth between Piper and Amanda. Piper's speech did the same thing, but the editors pretty much left it alone. Good call, as it would have had the impact and would have foreshadowed Piper's decision just a bit. It still felt like there was a chance she'd pick Tim, but did not.

Once they announced that they'd go ahead and perform the wedding right there, the reveal just lined itself up. The parents were brought in and I was suprised nobody asked where the other set of parents were at that point (although Amanda had caught it, but just kept her mouth shut).

During the "if anyone has just cause" part, we all knew Bryce had to make one last appearance. Tim wanted to knock him out which really showed his true colors since he'd just lost Piper himself. Bryce did a speech very similar to Hutch's from last season and the hands started to go up. Bryce was especially cool since he looked like a 1st grader trying to answer a question in class.

Tim seemed to think it was a great joke and Amanda was relieved, telling everyone that she's glad she didn't get picked. I'd guess that's because of the impromptu wedding ceremony, not because she didn't want to see Austin again.

Back in the house after the reveal we get a glimpse at Tim's feelings of betrayal, but as he said, he only stays mad for a few minutes. Piper really looked distraught at hurting him.

Thy showed a montage piece similar to the one done for Matt where each person spoke out of character about Tim and/or Amanda. The biggest reaction, at least from Tim and Amanda, was to a clip from the line dancing from last week. After the video Piper nearly broke down apologizing and Tim forgave her. I'm kind of hoping that Tim keeps some of the money for his bar because Ernie had some "TDubbs Pub" shirts made up and Tim nearly started crying there.

Derek bids us adieu and the noticibly missing part for those who say the first season was his admonition to keep our eyes out because you never know where they'll strike next. I read that the producers are working on something else for Spike, but I hope that once the final ratings are in they decide to give JS3 a shot for next year.

Now it's a matter of waiting out the DVD to get the full 90 minute version of episode 4 and a bunch of other stuff... :-)

Edit: I was just on the TivoCommunity site and this was linked. I think there may be hope yet... ;-)

I liked the episode, but I couldn't get over how self-centered Tim is. I don't know if he intended to do it, but it seemed like with all his speeches, he never really remembered that Amanda was also a focus of the show. He kept going on and on, and then it seemed like she would be forced to make a speech after he was done. Maybe he was just rambling because he was nervous. Regardless, I still couldn't believe when Derek was setting up the wedding with Piper and Austin, Tim made the comment, "The lighthouse is closed." That should have been Austin and Piper's moment, and Tim still had to get attention himself. That just didn't seem right.

It'd be nice if they did a JS3, but I think with all the close calls they had with this one (heck, they even lost a Schmo!), I think they might want to spend a little more time planning before they execute.

I'm not sure if anybody else caught this, but I think it was becoming painfully obvious in the last two episodes that Tim and Amanda really had the hots for each other. It's just a vibe that I got from their intereaction and the subtle things that they said.

Or not so subtle:

Tim: "I hope Austin doesn't pick Amanda, because she can do so much better."

Derek was great. Who says lines like," If Piper picks Tim he will win well more than a third of a quarter million dollars?"
And Austin with his I like Amanda but. I had lost count of who Austin picked by that time. Bryce was great as always.
The "special effects" Monticore was very creepy looking. It looked like a vulture more than a falcon.
I enjoyed JS2 and hope they have another season. Just try to tone down the buy DVD vibe next time.

The look on Tim's face, when all the actors started to raise their hands (right after he told Bryce "Nice job!") was absolutely priceless ... He had this big smile while laughing at Bryce's apparent breakdown, and then he looks around and his whole face just comes CRASHING DOWN.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong (and I'm pretty sure that I am) but is this Tee Dub's Pub? I thought it was in DC ...

I think Amanda and Tim took it too well. Much like I felt Matt took it too well last year.

If it was me, and I just found out everything that happened in the 2-week period was a lie, heads would roll and asses would be kicked. I would be pissed that Ingrid went along with it, instead of walking off or teling me. I'd be pissed at Valerie/Piper for playing with my heart. I'd damn the entire cast and crew to hell.

As soon as it was reveals to be all fake, I'd just looks at everybody and leave. I wouldn't talk to cameras, and wouldn't talk to any of the cast. If one tried to apologize, I'd tell them to go to hell. I'd also tell them to stick their prizes and money up their ass, and tell them that they can't buy my forgivness.

After getting my things, if they STILL wanted to try and talk to me before I leave. I'd tell than that I carry grudges, and that it may take me the rest of my life but I'd get each and every one of them back for it all.

Can't ya tell I hate pranks and practical jokes?

From http://schmoblog.spiketv.com

"Updates: Tim and Amanda are not a couple now, as far as I know, but they are close friends."

I guess that confirms they were dating for a while once the show finished. I can't wait til Tim's pub opens. If it's going to be in DC, I'll be there and hopefully see some schmos there too.

as great as last night was, It was nothing compared to Matt's "What's going on?!?!"

It was classic, that Tim is to self involved to even realize others are there. The show was great, can't wait to see if they try it again.

Yeah, I was pretty sure he wasn't from Wisconsin, but that's the only "Tee Dub's Pub" I could find via the Google ... Shouldn't he have some kind of presence for his new establishment set up on the web, to leech off his 15 minutes of fame?

Remember the Simpson Valentine's Day episode where Lisa went out with Ralph to the Krusty special and yelled at him in front of Live TV that she never liked him as Bart replayed it to her saying "If you freeze frame it you can see exactly when Ralph's heart got broken"... Same thing happened to Tim, after Bryce went on about he's just acting, it's all an act. Who here is acting and Tim just rolling his eyes like whatever Bryce you freak then looking at the rest of the cast all slowly raising there hands to finally seeing Piper raise her hand the look of total shock and heart broken. Tim really tried afterwards kidding and acting like he didn't mind when he found out but you can just tell he had some major hurt going on.

As bad an actor Austin was (and he very well might have been the worst one there), they were really good in portraying him just as much of an idiot that neither Amanda or Ingrid before him really had any deep feelings for him. Amanda seemed like the money would be cool, and hanging with a studly guy like him can be fun. But hey if it doesn't happen whatever it was fun. As she pretty much said so in the limo... Tim on the other hand was very much heart broken when he thought Piper wasn't in the limo and it was as obvious as day that he cared for her.

One thing that bothered me about Tim was the casual swearing even right in front of Piper! I mean jebus you are trying to impress a girl don't really know why the words f*ck and Sh*t be coming out of your mouth every other sentence... I'd put it down as nerves as he wasn't that bad in the previous episodes as he was this last one.

They established early in the show (Ep 4, the reveal to Ingrid) that Piper curses like a sailor during a date with Tim. He probably just figured she didn't care.

Tim's slow jaw drop during the reveal did say it all. I also saw posted somewhere else mention that if you hit pause right after Amanda blurted out knowing Rita that you can see Tim with a huge grin looking back at the guys entering and Austin with a terrified look on his face reacting to Amanda.

Part of Austin's character was that he was supposed to be a really shallow guy. I chalked up most of his performance to that. The coupon book storyline was a perfect example.

Amanda's thing was that she was somewhat interested in him, but was under no illusions that she was going to fall for him in just over a week. Her reaction (moreso than her mother and friend) during dinner with Austin just underscored that she wasn't into anything deeper at that point. Granted, things like the coupon book event were designed to put her off him pretty quickly. Ingrid wanted someone more intellectual than Austin and I'd bet her suspicions helped keep her from getting too interested early on.
