Google Zeitgeist Top Gaining Queries Week Ending August 9, 2004 1. mega millions 2. doom 3 3. rick james 4. mary kay letourneau 5. anastasia myskina 6. olympics 7. ralph fiennes 8. quincy carter 9. hurricane alex 10. lindsay lohan
I don't know if other people often go to this page, but I stumbled across it while noodling around google and just seeing what was going on with their site.
What interests me is the implications you can get (or wonder about) from this list. Granted, it would be helpful to know what kind of numbers a topic has to get just to make this list. I mean, how many queries made a #1 this week? How many were there between #1 and #2?
But more importantly: would Rick James get half the queries without Dave Chappelle? Why is there a MaryKayLetourneau.com? What's the normal rank for Quincy Carter? What's the percentage of Linday Lohan queries relating to fake breasts?
If anyone knows a simple way to find more meaningful data from these pages, I'd be happy to learn. It's not much of a sociology experiment, but it seems really interesting (to me) what other people seem very interested in. I mean, Anastasia Myskina? Why? | Promote this thread! | | JayJayDean

I'm more inclined to say 'who'? I would google her but if she's the sort of woman to sue over pictures of boobies as JayJay is suggesting then I don't think I want to do anything to aid her celebrity (so far as being on the google Zeitgeist can be considered celebrity).
I mean boobies, and indeed pictures there of are inherently good and should be encouraged in all walks of life. It saddens me that she can't see this
EDIT: For what its worth, mary kay letourneau and lindsay lohan also rank pretty high on my 'Who the feck are you' scale. On the other hand I not only knew who the people were on the declining top 10, but also had a fair idea why they were being googled. I'm so behind the times.
