Here's a quote from the article:
"OSCAR HEAT: Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 may be disqualified from this year's Academy Awards, because Cuba's government aired the doc on state-run television, in violation of Academy rules that says in order to qualify for the Golden Guy, a feature film can't air on the tube within nine months of its release."
Cuba eh? Why is it they got to fuck things up for their fellow socialist Michael Moore?
Anyway, to those who do not remember, Michael Moore's previous documentary Roger and Me, was also disqualified from being able to be nominated. NPR cited the reason as "altering timelines and events." And yet...Bowling For Columbine still won...hmmm...

It actually explains quite a bit since they never give the award to anything remotly controversial see Gump over Pulp Fiction. I just think the Academy is going to fuck him over even though what he said had the awards for Columbine is now what 95% of what Hollywood thinks and another 60% of America. If 60% of America believed it, Kerry would win in a rout.

I love how Hollywood gets villified, but the South and Mid-West are so in touch with reality, gay marriage bans are being set-up state by state. Yeah, they are the bad guys. Plus, shouldn't this stuff by in the political thread. I mean original we were talking about how stupid the Academy is, but as usual Grimis must pipe in trash anything remotly anti-Bush, jesus this guy defines troll. | Grimis

Actually, I just don't appreciate people signing the praises of a documentary that is made up trash. And since I'm not exactly waving the Bush flag, your point is moot. | Nuclear Winter

No rules about how truthful those have to be, and really, I think the sound of Grimis putting his foot through the tv if Michael Moore were to collect that award would really be beautiful ;) | pieman

I heard on the news this morning that it will not be disqualified since it was a pirated version of the movie that was aired.

Three reasons that won't happen:
1. The flick won't win the award. 2. I like my foot too much. 3. I'm too cheap to destroy a TV and then have to replace it over that lardball... | Big Bad

Though I generally agree with Moore's politics, I don't really think his movies are quite as great as other people make them out to be. If F9/11 won Best Picture, that would be a genuine miscarriage of justice, since there have been at least a dozen better movies so far this year and we're just barely into August.
Grimis, I have a question...have you actually seen Fahrenheit 9/11? If not, I would encourage you do go just so you can tear it apart with specific references rather than just a general 'it must be trash.' | Freeway

I don't know. After all, Hollywood is a den of Sodomites and ivory tower liberals who love to crap on American flags and eat babies Nothing would bring them more joy I am sure than having Michael Moore win it and then having 1000 gay people make out on stage while naked and kicking our soldiers to show middle America how much they hate all of them.

Awww...now that Dubya's tax cuts are in effect surely you should be flush enough to be able to spare a tv or two in order to properly vent at MM.

From what I understand Linda Fiorentino was not nominated for The Last Seduction for this reason. So its happened before apparently. But the film is no longer disqualified it seems, so no big deal right? Though maybe it should be disqualified for the same reasons Roger And Me was. | oldschoolhero

It's been ruled because the Cuban copy was pirated, that F911 is in fact Oscar-eligable.
