Yanks getting Normar next season? What, and have him play second?

Don't think George wouldn't do it. He got the consensus best player in the game to move to third base. I could see the Yanks doing that just to stick it to the Red Sox. Maybe they'll try to sign Pedro as well.

Here's to hoping he signs with the cubs long term. I already ordered my Nomar Cubbies jersey.

Exactly. personally, I think that Nomar goes to the Dogers. Two reasons why...

1. LA native. Lives there in the offseason. Family is there.

2. The new owner of the Dodgers is Frank McCourt. He's a Boston native and was one of the guys who put in a bid to buy the Red Sox when they were up for sale a couple of years ago. Last year he also tried to offer his land in South Boston to the new owners to build a new ballpark on. I think he'd love to bring Nomar to LA.

Other Sox issues... I think Pedro stays in Boston. I think Varitek stays here too. With Derek Lowe, I think there's a 60/40 chance he leaves. Some team desperate for pitching will probably fork over $10+M per year for him.

I'd like to see that too, but if he's a rent-a-shortstop, so be it. The Marlins did well with Pudge in the role, the Cubs used Lofton and Simon in the role last year, and other teams do it all the time. If we make the wild card (or the Cards take a dive - I think that's unlikely with Coach #25 at the helm), then it's all good. We gave up Beltran, who might be good someday, and Harris, ditto, and Agon, but Nomar might take us where we need to go.

I'm guessing Hendry's not done. Closer.

Eh. None of the closers on the market do much for me compared to what we already have. Mesa? Bleh. Guardado? Headed to DL. Urbina? Maybe, but Hawkins is pitching better than him, and we already have him. Maybe bringing Urbina into a pennant race would be good for him, but I'd rather see if there are any decent setup guys available.

I think we're alright on setup. Remlinger and Merker from the left, Rusch long and Farsworth and that other guy (ok, I just can't recall his name - it doesn't sound like it spells) from the right. And Latroy.

Ok, I agree on Farnsworth - how long are we going to wait for the guy to learn how to throw strikes in the setup role? If he could throw strikes consistantly, he's be lights-out.

Now I will await the Saturday Night Live sketch where the "Nomah" crowd meets up with Chicago's "Da Bears" crowd. Jimmy Fallon might have to come back, but it would be worth it.

I still can't believe Mr. Red Sox is a Cub now. I heard all the rumors, but thought they'd wait the season out. Nomar trade rumors got top billing in New England even the week the Patriots were in the Super Bowl. Yet ANOTHER reason not to spend big bucks on a player's jersey thinking they'd never trade him.

Leicester (pronounced Lester). Don't quote me on the spelling, though. Also, throw in Dempster in place of the just-sent-down Wellemeyer.

As a Sox fan, I need to stand up to that statement, for the record.

Nomar was a friggin icon in this town. My little brother was near tears when I told him we'd traded him away. He says he's going to draw a picture of Theo Esptein in flames and take it to Fenway next week. Make no mistake, the fans here loved Nomar. And, other than perhaps Dan Shaughnessey, I don't think even the media disliked him. I think it was between Nomar and ownership.

You're probably right. But guys like Mickey moradini, who did a couple seasons with the Scrubs still walks around the town like a prince. Just because he and Ryno (who's not an icon, he's a god, right up there with Saint Ernie, Saint Billy and Saint Ronnie) hit at the top of the order a year that the scrubbies went to the post-season.

Andre Dawson, who came in for 4-5 seasons, is still an icon, even after playing for a bunch of years at other places. Same for others - Sarge Matthews, for example. And we still like Bill Buckner here. Not Leon Durham so much Although I recently saw him as the hitting coach for some minor leage team - I think Toledo, and walked down to say hi.
