After watching UFC Friday, the NCAA Wrestling Championships on Saturday (along with a little boxing on Showtime), I was wondering if it would be wise for UFC to go after the WWF demographic at all anymore. The WWF seems to be settling back inot the die-hard group, loosing most of the casual fans that only watched it because it was the cool thing to do for the past four or five years.

I am thinking that UFC (and MMA in general) is going in the wrong direction at who they should be aiming things at. I really believe that if they were to go after the boxing fans market, they would be able to do something there. At this point in time, boxing still hasn't fully recovered from the mess that corrupt promoters put it in through most of the 90's. While there are still great fighters and fights happening, most boxing fans have become upset over the way things have been going in recent years. Why not, as an alternative to boxing, try to hook up with a Fox Sports Net and try to hold something similar to the way Boxing is aired. The best example of a show is ESPN 2's Tuesday Night Fight's. There is the perfect mix of matches, commentary on the latest happenings, and a touch of fan interaction.

While the WWF method of build TV worked for a short run, I think that it is going to be their downfall because they've built a set of fans only wanting soap opera. Boxing fans, on the other hand, still want action, and maybe a little talking from the fighters (thus shielding the ones with no charisma from the mic). UFC only needs to get the slightest of attention as a real sport and I think that sports news stations will begin to take notice. As long as they want to be like wrestling they will be treated as wrestling is... A circus side-show.

I think you only have to look at Pride in Japan to see that MMA can be a success with the right talent and money to back it.

UFC probably would be biiger if they didnt drop the ball and planned ahead in the early 90's. But they are definetly on the right track to getting a wider audiance
