The ACC, which proposed the rule to the NCAA earlier this month, suggested that the NCAA eliminate redshirt seasons, when players are on the team but don't play. A redshirt season does not count toward eligibility.

I should help some of the 2nd and 3rd stringers get more playing time they might not have otherwise.
The star players will still bolt after 3 years, but some of those backup players might be able to improve their skills with an extra year and might get their degree AND a NFL job.

Arent they there to get an education? If it meant more guys WOULD get thier degree, I would be all for it. If not, and its only a matter of playing time, then screw them, limit them to four years. | The Thrill

| #3 Posted on 29.7.04 0920.31 Reposted on: 29.7.11 0921.21 | Gotta love how the NCAA has different rules for the haves and have-nots...in this case, Division I and everybody else.
My little brother is going to play Division III football this fall at UW-Stevens Point. His course of study is expected to take five years. Problem is...in D-III, there's no such thing as redshirting. You come in right away, and even if you barely see the field, you can't "redshirt." You use up a year of eligibility right there.
So theoretically, by his 5th year of school, he won't be eligible to play football any more...in his senior year. WAAAAYYYY bogus, NCAA. | | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
