If i remember right Bret was working through a pretty serious groin injury through most of his tenure in WCW.
In the case of the tribute match, it had been his first match in a couple months, which is one of the reasons he blows up about 8-9 minutes in.
I think Bret's first match back was with Hogan vs. Sting and Lex Luger the night after Fall Brawl 1999 in September. The Owen Memorial match was October 2nd I believe. | The King of Keith

Tazz and Cole did a great job doing commentary for these. However, if there's one thing that this set proves is that Bret is still the most boring wrestler ever. I've just never seen the charisma or excitement that he supposedly brings to the table. Granted, that match wasn't one of his best, but watching it just made me confused all over again.

| #64 Posted on 6.8.04 0949.30 Reposted on: 6.8.11 0955.38 | Benoit and Sullivan were involved in a feud/angle surrounding Nancy Sullivan/Woman where Woman left Kevin for Chris. The feud then carried over into real life when the angle being played out actually happened and Nancy really DID leave Kevin for Chris. Obviously, this caused some real life tension between the two guys which carried over into their matches, which were always stiff as hell brawls.
Kevin and Nancy Sullivan were married in real life when she left him for Chris. I believe Chris Benoit was married with kids at the time as well. This is why he says he doesn't want to go into details on the DVD so he can explain it himself to his kids from the previous marriage when their older.
This is my understanding of the whole thing. If I'm wrong, I'm sure somebody will correct me.

| #65 Posted on 7.8.04 1818.08 Reposted on: 7.8.11 1825.08 | Excellent, excellent DVD! One of the few times I felt the need to spend money on a WWE product and didn't feel dirty afterwards. My favorite match was definitely the Regal/Benoit match from the Pillman Memorial. I've never seen it before (though I've heard all the glowing reviews) and finally see what everyone was raving about. The story about the tooth made me laugh simply because I've had big dogs my whole life and regularly take accidental shots to the face from them (those bastards always work stiff!).
Also... That whole Sabu incident... ouch! | The Vile1

The tooth story and the promo by pushing right when you highlight the Pillman memorial match. So how do you view the easter egg of Benoit's crippler promo from ECW? Someone earlier mentioned pressing right or left on the Too Cold Scorpio/Benoit match from Superbrawl 93, but that doesn't seem to work. | EastCoastAvenger

No. There have been only 4 Super J Cups. 1994 (New Japan) - Won by Chris Benoit over Great Sasuke 1995 (WAR) - Won by Jushin Lyger over Gedo 2000 (Michinoku Pro) - Won by Jushin Lyger over CIMA 2004 (Osaka Pro)- Won by Naomichi Marufuji over Takehiro Murahama
Err..then what is that tournament my friend has on tape? I believe Eddie wins it, its from 1996 if I recall correctly.
Thoughts on the dvd: Awesome. The story they tell is really good. I don't give a shit about changing music, although I loved his WCW theme (besides a porno its also on a pam anderson playboy tape btw) The stories they tell are quite interesting. I didn't know about his WWF tryout matches, I liked how they had Eddie and Dean in there describing the way their carreers paralelled. Great dvd. I think I like it better than the Flair one because I watched this era and it made more sense to me instead of the "woah..this is ooooooooold! look at the hair!"
I thought it was funny they pretty much went from RR 03 to 04. And sort of glossed over the neck injury, wtg to focus on actual wrestling! | Freeway

So did I, but it's still listed as a November release on the DVD booklet in the Benoit DVD.
I was a huge ECW fan and should be a good DVD. Although I bet it will be a fluff DVD where it says ECW was spawned to be an alternative extreme version to the WWF & WCW of the time. And in the end WWE won the battle. Rather then showing and giving credit for what ECW actually was.
Curious to see the match list and how "extreme" the DVD actually is. The WWE tends to use creative edits with matches and interview segments.

Another part of this story, I believe, is that Sullivan, booking at the time, had Woman actually travel with Benoit to build up their onscreen chemistry. In the end, that came back to bite him. | TomZenk1
