| #1 Posted on 27.7.04 0311.48 Reposted on: 27.7.11 0311.50 | Well, they went and did it. They actually went and played the one card they had left to swerve the viewers with. They went and kicked off Tim. And as he left, he didn't let Derek (Ralph) push him quickly out the door, and as he left, he lifted a quote _directly_ from The Truman Show.
This brings up a wealth of questions on where they're going with this, for instance, How do they bring Tim back? Does his quoting of The Truman Show mean that maybe he's figured it out as well? Could it mean that he's in on it too, and the producers are STILL playing with Ingrid's mind (ultimately revealing that the one person she knew for sure was real in fact, wasn't?)? In the words of Tim, Holy Schnikes.
Also, I may be in the minority here, but it seems like Bryce is just a bit TOO over the top in his acting, and seems to be the one most likely to come of as fake, even moreso than Cammy at times. That said, both of their performances in the Date sequences were excellent, as was Amanda's.
With the way this show leads to overspeculation, you can just never be sure exactly what's going on. I'm already looking forward to next week :) Promote this thread! | | HairRaiser

| #2 Posted on 27.7.04 0617.40 Reposted on: 27.7.11 0619.05 | Bryce going over the top at this stage just reinforces everything that's been laid out for him up to now. The caveman scream, while we were sort of led to assume had to do with finding out about Everett, would have been way too far out there prior to his being tossed off. At that stage, Amanda hadn't seen and heard enough of him to buy it, but you could tell by the reactions that both she and Tim are completely creeped out by him now.
And if that might have pushed too far, the near fist-fight perfectly grounded it back. He referred to Everett as a human being, not a frog and he was really into it. I wasn't picking up on TJ being on the verge of cracking up until Cammy mentioned it, but Bryce was 100% there. He should have probably been screaming and throwing stuff in his room for a minute before getting called back down, but that's just me nitpicking. :-)
The staredown with Montecore gives us the nice foreshadowing, even if the teasers didn't lay out what was going to happen. That's most likely how Tim is coming back, by throwing out Bryce for killing the falcon and reinstating Tim. I don't know if there's some reality show precedent that they're playing off of (ala the two "do overs" so far), but it's going to be interesting to see an interview with Tim done from the hotel room when he finds out he's coming back.
I love the Pearl Necklace twist to the elimination. Going into commercial when they showed Derek lifting up the candles and showing the necklaces, I thought they were going to toss Cammy. I didn't realize until the scene played out that there had been 3 necklaces, so it had to be for the men.
Other than that, a few other fun parts for me:
* Every time someone mentions their Everett or death, we get the little memorial video * Tim's "I'll take as long as I want" bit to Derek * Amanda's cheerleading (Tim thought it was awkward, but I thought she did the best out of the bunch, just for the cute factor) * Gerrald's song (very close second to Amanda) * The alone dates, just because if they're not doing that gimmick with the microphone and earpiece on another reality or dating show already, they really should.
Only a couple episodes left...
BTW: There's supposed to be an all-day marathon the day the finale airs (Tuesday Aug 10, I believe) for those who've missed it. No word as to whether the 90-minute version of episode 4 will be used, but I'm betting against it. | emma

Then there was the "close call" when Tim walked in on the rest of the boys out of character. I'm *hoping* that Tim really does know (or at least suspect) but is just going along with the game. (But then, last season I was holding out hope that Matt wasn't really that dumb, & that it was a double swerve on the cast. I clearly have unrealistic expectations about people's cluefulness.)

I wonder if do-overs are something that really happens in these kind of shows, but they just cut in the editing for the public version. There are shows that contrive to bring back players who've been booted, but I don't know of any full-out do-over precidents.

Tim had to prompt her with her own lines -- it was pretty bad. :-)

There is that dating show ("Taildaters"?) where they have 2 friends of the guy & 2 friends of the chick watching the date in realtime. The "friends" then text message "helpful" suggestions to the daters. That's probably as close as you could actually get -- the stip of "and the date mustn't know" would be problematic for non-actors.
(OK, off-topic-but-slightly-related random question: There was a short-lived TV show years ago, where the protagonist was some sort of spy/agent, & had some kind of implant, allowing his handlers back at home base to see what he sees, hear what he hears, & talk to him with "helpful" suggestions. What the heck was the name of that?)

| #6 Posted on 27.7.04 1625.06 Reposted on: 27.7.11 1625.15 | I thought they got back on track last night. The producer at the beginning of the show said something that had been bothering me for a while. He told the actors to focus less on the schmoe's and more on the other actors. I think that's the thing that's really been missing this season. Given Tim, Ingrid, and Amanda are really outspoken, but it seems like the actors are usually just standing around watching them instead of showing their personalities.
The "tail date" was awesomely funny. Tim is such a schmuck in that scene. He tells off the girls for screwing with TJ but doesn't have any hate for the guys that screw with Cammy...I did think Tim was swerving us (actors included)for a second with the whole Truman show quote. Then I thought nahhh.
I feel sorry for TJ as he's been made the 'buddy' of this year, not by the producers but by Tim trying to chill with the cool guy.
I think one swerve they got coming our way is a gay/lesbo switch. They've been pushing the Gerald going after Austin for a while. I think soon they might be switching Ingrid to the other side and have her chase after Piper. That would be the ultimate final eviction ceremony if it ended with Piper and Ingrid being together and Austin 'coming out' and picking Gerald. Could you imagine the look on Tim's face if that happened? It wouldn't be better than the Hutch winning but it would be funny. | EddieBurkett

On the last Bachelor, in one of the early eliminations rounds, he said the name of the wrong girl during the rose ceremony, so a girl he wanted to continue didn't get a rose (and a girl he didn't care about got a rose). The producers let the girl continue (and also let the other girl who accidentally got the rose continue on as well.)

Isn't there that show X-Treme Dating, where the suitor is given a microphone and earpiece for the date, and on the other end are two of the other person's exes? So the whole time, they are pointing out the persons flaws and ragging on them.
I like how the writers are using the alone time to generate such sympathy for the characters. First Eleanor's constant rejection, and now TJ can't get any real alone time.
You have to wonder if TJ's admission that they talked it out didn't ruin any future plans for conflicts with him and Bryce.
And can everyone calm down when someone quotes the Truman Show? It was a seminal movie about reality television, back before it was as commonplace as it is now. I think the references have more to do with the fact that there are cameras everywhere, and very little to do with the Schmo's suspecting its all an act. | Shem the Penman
