On the day that Google anounces its IPO will be priced at up to $3.3 billion, the google search function appears to be down (at least North America-wide; I've checked with colleagues in the U.S.; same thing).

It just keeps coming up as 'server error', even through the W site (so if someone else started a thread like this first, I couldn't check beyond scanning the page).

Not a great messages you want to be sending to investors...

Happened to me too...I thought our internet here at work had "broken" for a minute. Until I checked everything else.

Google isn't down - our site has just stopped working for the site search.

Check here; http://the-w.com/referrals.php You can see that people are getting here via Google.

I've been trying Google.com as well -- that's where I started. But maybe some people are able to get through? not sure.... I just know that here, in New York, Montreal and Chicago I've heard complaints from co-workers...

Still no luck here. I get the main page and that's it. The searches come up with the error, trying to access any of the other tabs also starts the error.

Odd...

Working fine for me. I'm in the DC area if that makes a difference.

Working fine for me, about 25 minutes west of cranlsn.

EDIT - I've seen a report that it's a MyDoom-like denial of service attack.

Google spokepeople are now saying that it was, in part, the Mydoom virus that slowed certain regions.

Its not that Google got attacked by the virus in the normal sense. This variant of MyDoom, after finding valid addresses on an infected computer, would Google the domain name (@domain) to collect a list of more valid addresses to attack. It were these multiple rapidfire queries that forced Google to shut down several of its servers.

The one day I have a meeting outside of the office, the owner gets an e-mail from a friend with an executable .com file attached, and just HAS to have it opened, even though the message itself was jibberish. Luckily, only one machine got infected, and it was easily cleaned.

Internet Storm Center's Report (isc.sans.org)

Symantec's Report (securityresponse.symantec.com)

I just noticed now that the ISC talks about MyDoom-O and Symantec is for MyDoom-M. So maybe we got a different virus at my office. Still, six of one, a half dozen of the other...
