OK, Red Sox fans, it's Showdown in Beantown (BostonRedSox.com) time. So fill me in.

Friday (Lieber vs. Schilling), Saturday, Sunday. The Bronx Bombers are coming to Fenway...and the BoSox are 8 1/2 games behind in the AL East. But you will have Ortiz, thanks to his appealing his upcoming suspension. (BostonRedSox.com)

Can the Sox sweep? Is 2 out of 3 ain't bad...er, good enough? Or will the Yanks kill any hopes for Boston winning the AL East this year...this weekend? Wha'bout the wild card?

And...GO!

I doubt that they are going to sweep the Yankees. Even if they managed to pull it off, I have given up on them winning the division. They are just to far out. The way they are playing they will be lucky to make the playoffs at all.

Should be an entertaining weekend of baseball though. It usually is when the Yankees are in town. Of course, maybe the best reason to tune in is to see how many times Manny is going to try and cut off balls from center field. :)

The Red Sox catch the break that the pitching match-up Friday is in their favor due to Schilling, Saturday they will be slight favorites (due to the fact that Tanyon Sturtze has historically been the Red Sox bitch) and Sunday is bet the over night with Contreras (another Red Sox bitch) vs. Lowe (everyone's bitch). I conceded the division long ago, but Boston needs minimum 2 out of 3 before the 12 game road trip that the DNC helped bring about. For those watching at home, Sunday Night Baseball has been designated Spot The Frauds night, as all the conventioneers try to say 'Don't You Know Who I Am' in order to get free Red Sox/Yankee tickets. McCarver calling Saturday's game means Joe Torre will feel some discomfort, as Timmy takes his usual spot calling the game from just behind Joe's colon. And of course, with Lowe pitching Sunday, it will be an excuse for Joe Morgan to go off on a 45 minute siloloqy stating that the reason Lowe's main pitch is called a sinker is because it has downward movement, thus it sinks, and thus it earns the term sinker. Joe should do that a few dozen times Sunday.

Personally I like Morgan he has a great voice and adds insight to the games for me at least. Sometimes I agree he goes to far in depth with common sense stuff but thats part of the Sunday night baseball game to bring in fans and explain the game. My major beef with Morgan is that he acts like everything in todays game isn't as good as it was when he played. As far as the series goes I have to pick the Sox due to the pitching matchups but I think it will be tied going into Sunday and thats the real toss up, strange how just last year that would have been a total lock for the Sox.

I think the Sox can win the division, provided that they're no more than 5 games out on August 1. The only realistic way that can happen is a sweep. Schilling tonight is going to set the tone for this series; if he can dominate and get a convincing complete game victory, then I really think a sweep is possible. We did it at Yankee Stadium, we can do it at Fenway Park.

I hate Morgan and Miller. I hate Buck and McCarver. The only thing saving this series for me is that tonight's game is on CBS and I get to hear Sean McDonough instead of Don Orsillo.

If the Yankees beat the Sox in the playoffs AGAIN this year I think we'll see Boston fans over the edge.
Maybe kidnapping Steinbrenner or Jeter.
Yeah, I've seen "Celtic Pride" too many times - it was a flop, but a pretty accurate portrayal of some of my fellow Boston sports fans and a nice Larry Bird cameo. Wonder what Bill Simmons thought of it??

A. Morgan, to me, comes off incredibly whiny. He detracts from the game, as well as Anderson and ESPN as a whole. An ESPN game means watch with the sound down, and listen to Sterling and Charley Steiner.

2. Morgan wrote the "Baseball for Dummies" years back. Someone gave me a copy at work and told me, "hey, I know you are a baseball fan!" This is not the book for a baseball fan. This is a book for a baseball fan's 3 year old, or the baseball fan's exchange student from the icy plains of Antarctica. Brainless, not even good "on the can" reading.

III. No player in the game is as good as ANYONE on the Big Red Machine. [sarcasm] I too, would rather have Dave Concepcion than Jeter, Rodriguez, or Tejada. [/sarcasm]

I would rather have Crackhead Bob, Fran Drescher, and Mushmouth from Fat Albert calling the fucking game.

Now Milar decides that he can hit?
Jeesus (Or in this case Damon) I am writing the Sox off, they don't want to win, they're gonna tank like the Cubs have. Oh and Epstein? ...It's called a defense, look into it.

Excuse me while I concentrate on something important... like worrying how the Giants are going to move past the Dodgers.
(Give ya a hint... trade Alfonso, and get a damn closer.)

What makes you think Boston will MAKE the playoffs?

They won't if they keep playing .500 ball like they have for almost the last 3 months. If they can't take these next 2 games from the Yanks, they might as well just focus on the wild card.

I think it's safe to say they have nothing to focus on BUT the wild card. The Yankees will get a good starting pitcher at the deadline, whether or not it's the Big Unit. I'm still thinking they'll find a way to get Johnson, as they always find a way to get their man...

The Yankees seem to be a solid TEAM this year. They're willing to do whatever it takes, and Jeter's a prime example of that. He could benefit from getting fully healthy and healing his hand, but he won't take any time off. It remains to be seen whether he hurts the team or not, but he's pulled through tough times before while hurt (I think in one of the playoffs). Meanwhile, BoSox have guys who sit out when they don't feel like playing. I feel sorry for BoSox fans, cuz the team doesn't seem to want to win as much as the Yanks. I thought the Sox had the better team this year, too.
