Would have gone into a new market with a competitive team not hampering another team, and would have put the D-Rays in a division with 2 natural rivals. Now, baseball still has a Tampa franchise overmatched in their division, while Baltimore will be weakened and the Expos are going to a place that spit the bit twice already. As long as the Blue Jays pay in Canadian dollars, this almost guarantees New York/Boston 1-2 in the A.L East for the foreseeable future. | Bullitt

I just HOPE they don't get the idea at the last minute to call them the Senators for their sake...using that name for a baseball team name may or may not be jinxed.

Hey, we can dream, can't we? Not that I am on the message board over there...but I was still hoping (though realizing it was a long shot) that we'd get a major league team to come to Norfolk. Oh well. The Tides will continue to keep me entertained and at $7.50 a ticket, I can't go wrong...I will miss David Wright though... | JayJayDean

Even then it's not a done deal. The Seahawks moved to Anaheim a couple of years ago and the trucks DID leave, with protesters there and everything.

Yeah, but you know...fans in the D.C./Baltimore area, they're a little more sensitive than most when it comes to putting "team" and "moving trucks" in the same sentence. :) | Grimis

I think actually, that this year we are having the seventh annual "Very last Expos game in Montreal... and this time we REALLY REALLY mean it."
Sometimes I feel like the Expos exist as a weird petri dish experiment to see just how badly you have to treat the fans until they won't stop coming. | chill

A small bit of irony in this being that the AA affiliate for the Expos is the Harrisburg Senators, a team that until recently had quite a successful run in the Eastern League, winning 4 straight championships from 1996-1999, as well as a win in 1993 (all after switching affiliation to the Expos). It was also the team where Vlad Guerrero rose to prominence.

I'm pretty sure they'd sell. MLB wants this whole situation to be over with as soon as possible... the only reason they even own the 'Spos is that they couldn't find a buyer beforehand (and Jeffrey Loria just HAS to have a team). | estragand

How is that ironic?
I find it ironic that baseball is as American as apple pie, but apples originated in Asia.

Now that's irony.
