Apparently, some people in Maryland have spotted a new animal (nbc10.com). They are calling it the hyote, since it looks like a cross between a hyena and coyote. Either we need to explore our own continent better, or some of those sci-fi horror B-movies may be coming true... Promote this thread!

I can tell you coyotes and Hyenas definately cannot hybridize.Coyotes are canines (dogs) and Hyenas are viverids (realatives of the mongoose.) At best I would say possibly a coyote-red setter hybrid (unlikely but remotely possible.) If this story itself is at all real, I would think local wildlife biologists would be attempting to trap it and find out what it really is.

If you look at some of the other pictures (nbc10.com) in the article, it looks more like a dog-type thing and less like a pig. At least, that's what I think.
