Apparently, some people in Maryland have spotted a new animal (nbc10.com). They are calling it the hyote, since it looks like a cross between a hyena and coyote.

I can tell you coyotes and Hyenas definately cannot hybridize.Coyotes are canines (dogs) and Hyenas are viverids (realatives of the mongoose.) At best I would say possibly a coyote-red setter hybrid (unlikely but remotely possible.) If this story itself is at all real, I would think local wildlife biologists would be attempting to trap it and find out what it really is. | girl
