Apparently, some people in Maryland have spotted a new animal (nbc10.com). They are calling it the hyote, since it looks like a cross between a hyena and coyote. Either we need to explore our own continent better, or some of those sci-fi horror B-movies may be coming true... Promote this thread!

I can tell you coyotes and Hyenas definately cannot hybridize.Coyotes are canines (dogs) and Hyenas are viverids (realatives of the mongoose.) At best I would say possibly a coyote-red setter hybrid (unlikely but remotely possible.) If this story itself is at all real, I would think local wildlife biologists would be attempting to trap it and find out what it really is.

AIM: # 6 Posted on 19.7.04 2310.13 Reposted on: 19.7.11 2310.13 Personally, I think it has kind of a horse/pig feel to it. The head and mane of a horse, with the stout body of a pig. Calls to mind Episode 814 of MST3K. "Winged bears!? The end times are upon us!" -Crow T. Robot (edited by PalpatineW on 20.7.04 0010)

If you look at some of the other pictures (nbc10.com) in the article, it looks more like a dog-type thing and less like a pig. At least, that's what I think.

But that's only from the video feed. Nobody has tracked it down yet...
