If he loses before the end of this season (Friday), then he'll be eligible for the Tournament. If he doesn't, then he will continue to play next season (starting in the fall, after the Tournament) and will be eligible for next year's Tournament, assuming he loses at any time during all of next season.
Ken Jennings was and still is an amazing Jeopardy! player, arguably the best they've ever had... and it's a testament to his ability that people were actually asking at the time whether he'd finish undefeated for an entire season.

No way in hell. He is ratings.
Besides, unlike some prize-based game shows where they remove people for being too good that they are bankrupting the show, they are going to be giving that money to someone so why not let it be the guy everyone in the world knows about. I mean, how many OTHER Jeopardy contestants can you name real quick.
