He's been on several of the morning shows this week (GMA, The Early Show, Regis & Kelly) and did Letterman's Top Ten Monday night. According to Charlie Gibson, Jeopardy's ratings are up 30% since Ken started winning.

I read an article earlier in his run that said he could not talk to any media while he was still a contestant on the show. He has talked to the AP this week and is appearing on TV, so it is safe to say that somebody else will get a chance to buzz in more than 5 times during a show soon.
It will be interesting to see a tournament of 5 day and more champions. To see how Ken's thumb matches up against those who never got a chance to have such a remarkable run. | Teapot

I think it's hilarious to watch Alex basically go apoplectic (well, apoplectic for Alex) when Ken has the opportunity to break the single-day record (basically the only record he doesn't have yet). He's tied the record twice, but hasn't broken it yet. Ken has been saying on various message boards that he doesn't want to take away from Brian Weikle, the player who set the record. | dwaters

"Ken Jennings--I've been watching you, son. You think you're all high and mighty with your winning streak...well I got news for ya...all good things must come to an end..."
at the end: "Encyclopedia Brittanica says I just whupped your ass!"
Is is me or does Alex seem annoyed with Ken--or is that just how Alex is with everyone? I know I'VE watched the show more than usual lately. | Roy.

The show's on a production hiatus right now, so the fact that he's talking to the media doesn't mean TOO much...the show may be allowing it to throw us off the scent.

Anything that gets the show press during a million-dollar run, I'd bet they might relax. AFAIK, I don't think he can talk about shows *in advance* to people, but past issues or issues regarding the show in general might be ok.
And as much as I hate to say it, the promo feed for Wheel and J! have been good spoilers for how long Ken's on the show -- they promo how much he's at. That said, I should be able to know the next two weeks results tomorrow. Hopefully.

His strategy of buzz in before anyone else can and then guess half the answers correct is getting on my nerves. Personally, I couldn't pull the strategy off cause I'd be at -2000 before the first commercial break, so I do give the guy some props for knowing his stuff. You can just see the other people give up usually in double jeopordy when they realize they will never get to buzz in before Ken.

I heard about this during the tapings for the Tournament of Champions. Who told me the rumors were true? Alex himself. (None of the champions whose shows were yet to air talked about their runs. Not that Jeopardy asked them not to, but I think they didn't want us to know how well they had done.) I went up to Alex and said, "So, what's up with these rumors about Ken winning X games and $Y million dollars?" And he said, "Yeah, that sounds about right." Thus, this entire run has been completely anticlamactic for me. I didn't know the highs or the lows, but I knew about how much he wins and about how long it took him to get there.
So a tip for the future - never trust your secrets to Alex Trebek. Leakier than a sieve.

If he loses before the end of this season (Friday), then he'll be eligible for the Tournament. If he doesn't, then he will continue to play next season (starting in the fall, after the Tournament) and will be eligible for next year's Tournament, assuming he loses at any time during all of next season. | JustinShapiro

This ought to shut up the guys who were always carping that 52,000 wasn't the *real* one-day record, because it was 34,000 before they doubled the dollar amounts.
Ken's really only got three records left to break.
1) Most wins on a game show - 43 (Thom McKee, Tic-Tac-Dough) 2) Most appearances on a game show - 46 (Thom McKee) 3) Most won on a game show - 2.1 million (Kevin Olmstead, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire)
(Tic-Tac-Dough was a game where you could play multiple games in one show. You could also tie games. McKee won 43 games and tied 45 over 46 shows.) |
