FUN FACTS:

Edge's reign is the 100th in Intercontinental Championship history. Edge joins Triple H, Rob Van Dam, Chris Jericho & Triple H as 5-time Intercontinental Champeens. Only Jeff Jarrett (6) has won more. Edge, predictably, also has the shortest total reign of any 5-timer: 114 days. Triple H's first reign was a day longer. Makes you think.

Former IC Champions: Pat Patterson, Ken Patera, Pedro Morales, Don Muraco, Tito Santana, Greg Valentine, Randy Savage, Ricky Steamboat, The Honky Tonk Man, Ultimate Warrior, Rick Rude, Mr. Perfect, Kerry Von Erich, Bret Hart, The Mountie, Roddy Piper, Davey Boy Smith, Shawn Michaels, Marty Jannetty, Razor Ramon, Diesel, Jeff Jarrett, Shane Douglas, Goldust, Ahmed Johnson, Marc Mero, Triple H, The Rock, Owen Hart, Steve Austin, Ken Shamrock, Val Venis, Road Dogg, The Godfather, Edge, D'Lo Brown, Chyna, Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Rikishi, Eddie Guerrero, Billy Gunn, Jeff Hardy, Kane, Albert, Lance Storm, Christian, Test, William Regal, Rob Van Dam, Booker T & Randy Orton.

Jericho is a six-time champion:

12/12/99 d. Chyna
01/23/00 d. Chyna and Hardcore Holly (gains sole possession of the title after sharing it with Chyna - count it as one)
05/02/00 d. Chris Benoit
01/21/01 d. Chris Benoit
09/16/02 d. Rob Van Dam
10/27/03 d. Rob Van Dam

The Chyna/Jericho thing is iffy and I put it into the Antonio Inoki column. Inoki beat Bob Backlund in Japan, then gave the title back, then lost a rematch. Then Backlund beat Barry Windham, but the referee was dumb and gave the belt to Windham, and the title was held up until Backlund won a rematch. The WWE's latest publications call Antonio Inoki a former champion, recognizing his win over Backlund and subsequent loss. Backlund's a 3-time champion. What the hell does that mean?

My Take: Chris Jericho NEVER lost the IC Title. The double pin didn't mean NEITHER of them won, it meant BOTH of them won. From then on Jericho's first reign continues because he never lost the title...until Kurt Angle beat him at No Way Out.

I say Jericho won a match to gain sole control of the title he was sharing, and could have lost it had he not, so that has to count. Plus they kinda held it up before Stephanie made her ruling about it. What a nerdy discussion.

Call it 5.5 reigns and credit Chyna with half a reign.
