Primitive Radio Gods have a new track on Music Choice. This pleases me greatly. One of the lost alt rock acts of the 90's.

BTW, Feely, didn't the Toadies do "Backwater" as well? I'm stupid, so I probably have this wrong.

And man, do I need MP3s of a lot of this stuff. One Hit Wonders tracker like yesterday!

I'd also eliminate Voice of the Beehive because I'm not familiar with the one Feely mentioned but I distinctly remember "Don't Call Me Baby" getting a lot of airplay circa 1990.

If we're going to go really old-school, too, you HAVE to throw out:

? and The Mysterians: 96 Tears

Great song.

BTW, Teapot, thanks for the correction.

"Backwater" was the Meat Puppets, and Seven Mary Three just had "Wait" a few years ago. Neither "Someday We'll Know" or the "Cat's In The Cradle" cover charted as far as I know, and I'm not sure if "Sugarbuzz" did either.

If you're going to go with a New Radicals song, "You Get What you Give" would probably be a better choice.

Feely's list covered alot of ground though. Lots of good one-hit wonders there.

Hey, how about "The Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats? I know they released another single after but...c'mon, the Safety Dance!

Yer da man...no wonder your rating is so damn high. I'd also like to add that "That's The Way Love Goes" off Young's spectacularly poor-selling sophomore effort "Brainstorm" was played on the local radio where I grew up in Cali a couple times...literally.

Man..."Stone Cold Rhymin'" is such a bad-ass album.

Lets see Quad City DJs was basically the same people as the 69 Boys, same producers, and they werent really a BAND per se, but more like a BlackBox type act that was put together by a producer and distributed as a band.
Paul Hardcastle is a respected instrumentalist, but only had one real HIT, but, by that criteria, Bobby McFerrin is a OHW.
Eric Carmen also had a hit with "Make Me Lose Control"
The Rembrandts also had "The Way It is Baby" so, no OHW for them.
Wang Chung had both WANG CHUNG and Dance Hall Days.

Scritti Politti "Perfect Way"
Big Country "In A Big Country"
GTR "When the Heart Rules THe Mind"

Wall Of Voodoo "Mexican Radio"
Jon Astley "Janes Getting Serious"
Toni Child "I Dont Wanna Fall In Love"
Nena 99 Luft/Red Balloons (German/English Versions count as one, right? )
Mary Jane Girls "In My House"
Timbuk 3 "Future so Bright, gotta wear shades"
T'Pau "Heart and Soul"
Stacy Q " Two Of Hearts"
Jermaine Stewart "We Dont Have to Take Our Clothes Off"
Martin Briley "Salt in My Tears"
Oran 'juice' Jones "The Rain"
Dobie Grey "Drift Away"
Digital Underground "Humpty Dance"
Shanice (I think that was her name) "No More Lies"
Company B "Fascinated"
Seduction "Tempation"
Jeff Healy Band "Angel Eyes"
Steelheart "Angel Eyes (Never Let You Go)"
Sugar Hill Gang "Rappers Delight"
Blind Melon "No Rain"
Steelers Wheel "Stuck in the Middle"
Blue Suede "Hooked on a Feeling"
Bo Heywood and the Donalds "Billy Dont Be A Hero"
Ben Folds Five "Brick"
Saigon Kick "Love is on the Way"
Kix "Dont Close Your Eyes"
Patrice Rushen"Forget Me Nots" (the riff was stolen for MEN IN BLACK)
Nu Shooz "I Cant Wait"
Animotion "Obsession"
Benny Mardones "Into the Night"
Alias "More Than Words Can Say"
Republica "Ready To Go"
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones "The Impression That I Get"
Thomas Dolby "Blinded Me With Science"
Heaven 17 " Let Me Go"
Real Life "Send Me an Angel"
Re-Flex "Policitcs Of Dancing"
Soft Cell "Tainted Love"

I am sure there are more, but I cant think of them off the top of my head right now.

I may be biased but I don't think Lifehouse should be on there. I heard "Sick Cycle Carousel" and more importantly "Breathe" on the radio a good deal.

Pras shouldn't count because he was not only part of the Fugees, but the "Ghetto Superstar" song wasn't just him, it had ODB and Mya.

Maybe it's because of my location, but "Good Things" by the Bodeans was all over our radio here when it came out many years back, so I don't know if they would qualify or if we're just a local anomaly.

Spacehog's "I Want to Live" got quite a bit of play around here, and Fastball shouldn't count because "Out of My Head" was a pretty decent hit too.

If we're thinking of the same chic, I think it was Jane Childs with "I Dont Wanna Fall in Love". She had weird hair, noserings and dreadlocks down to her ankles. Circa May 1990.. right?

I'd remove Digital Underground from OHW. "Do whatcha' like" , "Kiss me and I'll Kiss you Back" and "Same Song" were all pretty popular. In fact, the trippy-ass college radio station just played "Same Song" the other day. I'm not a huge hip-hop fan, but I thought I heard TuPac on that tune. True?

Kix: I hated these guys, but they had a ton of tunes played on Z-Rock, around 1989. "Blow My Fuse"
and "Cold Blood" especially. They had a bunch of minor "hits", before.

Bosstones. I'd remove them, too. "Kinder Words" and "Pictures to Prove It" were in the alt-rock
rotation around late 1994/ early 1995. They had a college-radio hit from an earlier album from 1993, but the name escapes me. Plus, their cover of "Detroit Rock City" absolutely destroys!

I'm tempted to add Autograph and "Turn up the Radio". They had about four or five records after their debut album "Please Sign In", but I don't think they every charted.

Whattabout Marcy Playground with "Sex and Candy"? Or BranVan2000 and..whatever that song was they had in early 1998-- "What the hell am I doin, drinkin' in LA...at 26...". Also, who was the alt-rock band that did a cover of NWA's "Boyz N' da' hood", circa 2000?

Most of these guys had one HUGE hit..and several minor ones. But don't get offended, this is more of a trivia thread. It made me remember OMC and Wheatus ("Listen to Iron Maiden, baby, with meeee")!

And if we're thinking about the same Young MC Commercial...

"Hello, I'm Young MC with a story to tell..
I just got a new cup from Taco Bell..
And MTV makes the whole thing fun..
Buy a giant size drink and you'll get one

Four cups in all, so don't stand still..
And if you buy these cups you get a free refill.
To get these cups ya gotta' place your order..
So take my advice and make run for the border"

I'd leave off Ben Folds Five, if for nothing else, Rocking the Suburbs... I mean, he was essentially the band, so solo songs should count.

I'd also leave off Nine Days for "If I Am".

Many of the other ones I'd have issues with have already replied...

But I'd add

Getaway People- Six Pacs
and Collapsis- Automatic

IIRC, Gerry Rafferty was in Stealer's Wheel, and so if we're going by "you can count the group as well as the solo artist," he's had another hit with "Stuck in the Middle With You."

If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go pour gasoline on someone and cut their ear off.

Not to mention "Fire Escape", which beats down all their other songs and leaves them in the gutter.

Spacehog MAY be out, depending on how well "Mungo City" did. Although their first album's fucking great.
