| #1 Posted on 7.7.04 2057.12 Reposted on: 7.7.11 2057.36 | For purely masochist reasons, I am compiling a CD of one hit wonders. To qualify the person or group must have had a big hit and was never able to achieve another hit. Ever. So for those reasons I had to toss out one note acts like Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer, ICP, Color Me Bad, Faith No More (a personal favorite of mines even with all the homo-erotic-isms) since sadly they have had more then one hit. This is my way of archiving the darkest moments in our country's history. But I won't lie, many of these songs I did and still do enjoy. With headphones and listening to in the basement of course. Here is what I have so far:
Artist__________________Song Deee-Lite...............Groove is in the Heart Paperboy................Ditty (I LUV this song) Billy Ray Cyrus.........Achy Breaky Heart Right Said Fred.........I'm Too Sexy Digable Planet..........Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat) Tag Team................Whoop There It Is Ahmed...................Back in the Day (another fave) Green Jelly.............3 Little Pigs (my 1st alt song) Crash Test Dummies......MMM MMM MMM MMM 4PM.....................Sukiyaki 69 Boys.................Tootsie Roll (I still hate this) Deep Blue Something.....Breakfast at Tiffany's Los Del Rio.............Macarena (This was obvious) Chumbawamba.............Tubthumping Eifel 65................Blue (Da Ba Dee) Lou Bega................Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit Of..) Ghost Town DJ's.........My Boo Skee-Lo.................I Wish (another personal fave)
I realize that everyone is from the 90's. Hey that is when I was really into music. 4pm Sukiyaki is so funny now since there are NO women in Japan named Sukiyaki. Which would be like someone in American naming their kid BBQ Sauce. Fucking Eifel 65. When I was boxing their song Blue use to play in the gym like 100 times straight on the radio. It made me wonder if the gym owner wanted us to start dating men on the side. I also notice I have more rap, but I actually listen to rock and metal more. I just can't think of the name for all those Nirvana wannabes from the 90's. Oh and I am also glad that a coalition was secretly formed to take Lou Bega out of play back in 1999. Thank you allied countries.
Any other bands or persons who belong in this compilation? I have these songs in my head that belong on the CD, but I don't know the name.

Hmmm, didn't Petey Pablo just come out with another song? Otherwise, I always liked "Raise Up" but that could just be me. How about Rammstein? They're big in Europe, but the only hit over here was "Du Hast". White Town, "I could never be your woman". Haddaway, "What is love?". Ah, it's late. I think I'll go to bed.

What about Londonbeat's "I've Been Thinking About You"? Also, I can't remember the band's name, but it was some horrible rap ballad with a chorus that went "She looked like a girl from Abercrombie & Fitch." | Big G

That be-eth LFO. And not the good one. However, they did inexplicably have more than one hit, so they're out. | DarkRenegade

And although it wasn't a HUGE hit, Chumbawamba had "Amnesia". And Rammstein had "Sonne"...at least I saw the video played on MTV, so that's gotta mean something.
I can think of many tunes of one hit songs, but I can't remember the artist or title name. Oh wait, how about that "How Bizzare" song? I can't remember the artist name, but it was something in initials... | drjayphd

| #9 Posted on 7.7.04 2242.14 Reposted on: 7.7.11 2242.51 | "Paperboy" IS an awesome song, and I just re-discovered it recently. Brought back lots of memories...from when I was about 8. Yeah.
How about "Bust-a-Move" by Young MC, "I Touch Myself" by the Divinyls, "Mouth" by Merril Bainbridge (quite a 1-2 punch there), "I Love You Always Forver" by Donna Lewis, "Sway" by Bic Runga, and one other song I re-discovered lately, Cathy Dennis' "Too Many Walls", though she may have had a few other hits.
Oh, and of course "Bitch" by Meredith Brooks.
Geez, that was a pansy ass songlist from me. I should probably go look at some Lita pics now to reassure myself....oh wait, that won't help much. *rimshot*
edit: how can I forget "Steal My Sunshine" by Len and "C'mon 'n Ride It (the Train)" by Quad City Djs?

Others that spring to mind would be Taco "Puttin' on the Ritz", Sheriff "When I'm With You", and the most obnoxious song of all time, Paul Hardcastle "Nineteen".

Some from my collection:
Geggy Tah: "Thank You" MC 900 Ft Jesus: "If I Only Had A Brain" Eagle-Eye Cherry: "Save Tonight" The Rentals: "Friends of P" Tom Tom Club: "Genius of Love"
and, though it pains me to admit it, you could probably call Matthew Sweet a one hit wonder, and therefore you MUST put "Girlfriend" in any such collection (if you grant that premise). | SeVen ™

| #16 Posted on 8.7.04 0030.21 Reposted on: 8.7.11 0034.24 | Oh man! I guess I have to take Billy Ray Cyrus out. The thing about him is when people think one hit wonder, his name is usually top 5 that pops in their head. I wanted to include 4-Non Blondes but I am a deeply closeted Linda Perry mark. The Rembrandt's defiantly belong here. I watched the Joey Spin off last night (pilot was funny as hell) and I was surprised they used an electro-rap like beat for the intro. I was kinda hoping they would bring the 'Brandts back again. Lord knows, they can't be busy now.
I thought Meredith had another hit besides Bitch. Damn that song still makes me think of Erin Brockavich 4 years later. Damn you advertisement marketers! You scarred me for life.
Young MC has a special place in the one hit wonder museum for wearing that shag in 1990.
I can't believe I forget LFO and remember ELP? Youse so ubeeleevabaah!
And I need to be slap for forgetting Quad City DJ. When I was a senior in high school, I got busted big time for cheating on my then girlfriend. When my other girlfriend from across town dedicated that song to me on the local radio. I came to school the next day and even the teachers and janitors where like "You're busted!"
Damn this is what's in store for all us 50 years from now? We get together with our dusty old CD format no one uses anymore, and start pumping some Baha Men, Who Let the Dogs Out? While our grandkids roll their eyes and walk away shaking their heads for us putting on the oldies again? Can you believe one day Fuck The Police by NWA will be played on the A.M. Oldies but Goodies station? Wild. | Kei Posiskunk

Geggy Tah's in, but the song was "Whoever You Are", I believe. (AMG's it) Yup. That's it. And they did another album in 2001... who knew?
