So the Chi Sox are definitely serious about a postseason run, does this mean they will hold on to Magglio? Because I've heard both Yankee and Braves trade rumors and I those are the two teams I wouldn't want to see him on.

I guess the ChiSox think they can re-sign Freddy Garcia, because they gave up a lot to get him. Their catcher of the future (and present)- Miguel Olivo, their top outfield prospect in Jeremy Reed, and infielder Michael Morse. They did get Ben Davis and cash back too, but you Padre fans on the board know all about him. This is a very good trade for the M's.

Although, with Beltran and Garcia now traded, I don't know the next "hot candidate" will be.
At this point, I wouldn't mind seeing the Red Sox do it to shake up the team, but management doesn't have the guts to do it. Hell, they don't have the guts to sit Kevin Millar. Good trade for the White Sox. Next hot name on the market: Jamie Moyer. Probably the best lefty available if the Big Unit doesn't waive his no trade clause.

The Sox don't want to re-up Mags at his current rate. He's willing to sign for the same money as he gets now (4 years @$14 million per), but of course the hundreds of millions Reinsdorf made off of Jordan is rarely coughed up for the Sox.
I heard they were talking Mags to the Braves for Andruw Jones. I have no idea why the Braves would do this, unless they are just trying to unload Jones' contract. Does anyone know what his contract status is?

White Sox must be really going for it to give up on Miguel Olivio. I'm not certain that Garcia is going to automatically resign once the season is over.

Because the Braves are smart. Jones is good...but he's not that good. Great with the glove, but not a great average hitter.

The sports talk radio up here has been buzzing about Russ Ortiz possibly coming up here. There was some speculation about Ortiz and Andruw Jones for Ordonez and prospects, but that seemed to be fading before it ever got any traction.
As for the Garcia trade, it's an excellent manuver. Especially as Schoenweis is having arm trouble right now, so we needed to get a solid arm to get back to at least 4 good pitchers. I don't like the loss of Olivo, but he really was going slow in terms of learning how to call games. He'll be a good player for a long time, but I feel like Alomar and Burke will be able to handle things well enough to make the loss worthwhile. And while Reed is a solid prospect, the Sox have a lot of guys right now who can play outfield, even if they don't resign Maggs.

I heard on sports talk radio this morning that the Sox were banking there hopes of signing Garcia long-term on the relationship between Garcia and Ozzie Guillen. Apparently the two are great friends and Garcia is thrilled about playing for him.
