When Russ Granik can't even crack wise about the second round properly (he called it the High-Speed Round when it's common knowledge that the proper term is Lightning Round)... I couldn't care about the second round, but no one can, really. Actually, in all seriousness... at least there was some question this year as to who the #1 pick was gonna be. Everyone knew it'd be either Emeka Okafor or Dwight Howard, but didn't know which one would go where. In addition, the Bobcats traded up a couple days before the draft to get the #2 pick in what I have to say was a very shrewd move by Bernie Bickerstaff (especially if Peja Drobnjak pans out the way I think he can).
True, there were no big trades throughout the evening. And no, the Pacers didn't trade up and get the #7 pick. Not that Pacers rookies are notorious for their ability to ability to contribute immediately, in any case (with the recent exception of Jamaal Tinsley).
But last year, as soon as the Cavaliers earned the #1 pick, they practically started handing out LeBron James jerseys. Actually, I take that back... they did start handing out LeBron James jerseys. Don't get me wrong, LeBron was definitely worth the #1 pick and then some, and he'll only get better. But at least this year, there was some degree of ambiguity about the whole “who's gonna be #1?” sitch.
Meanwhile, the Pacers get David Harrison with the 29th pick in the draft. He's a center out of Colorado... apparently very talented, but there are some questions about his work ethic. No big-- J.O. and Rick Carlisle will get him straightened out with that if there's any problem. And given the Pacers' lack of reliable backup centers, David might very well get some P.T. very early into the regular season. Especially if he can adapt to the Pacers' style of play more like Jeff Foster did, and less like Scot Pollard thus far has. | dunkndollaz

Dickie V was a fucking embarrasment. He slammed any and all teams that took HS players. Notice he was back on the C's side when they took Delonte West at 24.
This guy makes his money off of the college game so he is going to hype up the players from there as much as possible. While I thought in a few instances he was right, as Orlando taking Howard over Okafor and Portland taking Telfair over Nelson, his act for the most part was foolish, boorish, and bordering on self-parody.
