We all know that KISS would package their own feces and sell it if it meant they'd make a buck off of it. This article is from a former KISS Army member that totally slams them and he lists the top 10 worst moments in the band's history.

I read that and not only is it a thing of greatness, but it's all true.

I'm a KISS fan, but it's not that hard to put out a new album before every farewell tour.

A few others things to add:

-The 1996 "KISSNation" comic book..which sold at a 9.99 cover price! Featured a "special" team-up with the X-men. Terrible art, terrible plot, terrible idea.

-The KISS Credit Card. With an annual fee of course.

-The Asylum and Crazy Nights albums. When Gene was too busy making movies, the band had no steady guitar player, and Paul basically pieced together the albums by himself.

-The 1999 Las Vegas "concert". At a concert to promote a start-up internet company, the guys did a four-song lip-synch set. The whole "concert" was a trav-i-sham-ockery, so you can't really single out KISS for this debacle.

-Didn't they try a KISS ISP around 2000 or so?

-Re-releasing, re-scheduling and finally re-tooling the "Alive 4" album. It was originally slated to be released in April 2000.

I wouldn't be so hard on "The Elder"...yes, it has some TERRIBLE songs ("Just a Boy"), but "I" is kinda cool and while a trainwreck, the album is more interesting than "Lick It Up".

It's nitpicky, but the "Farewell Tour" didn't start until 2000. So to say that Kiss has been saying farewell for over 8 years is harsh. When they did the whole reunion gig in 1996, they never said it was "farewell". At the time, Kulick and Singer were still on the payroll, and the reunion was announced as a temporary thing. Singer and Kulick left under good circumstances in 1997, and the original four went in to record "psycho circus". Their tour in 1998/99 was to promote "circus".

One thing looked over -

The Kiss: Psycho Circus - The Nightmare Child video game. A godawful FPS that quickly found the way to the bargain bin. I believe it was for Dreamcast and the PC. EGM gave it a HORRIBLE rating and couldn't stop talking about what a nightmare that crappy piece of software was. Kiss actually barely appears in the game, despite being all over the packaging. Ditto for actual Kiss music.

Why dis them for being ahead of the curve on how to market themselves and make a buck. Never cared for them or their music but c'mon they were (are) prety good at marketing themselves.

I played this flaming pile of dung years ago. I think there's a jukebox every few rooms that has snippets of KISS music, but other than that the most exciting thing about that game is that your character looks like Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat. (pre-1991 WWF)

I think there's a fairly large difference between marketing stuff that your fans may actually buy and slapping your name on anything. Calendars, concert videos, t-shirts and even action figures seem reasonable. Condoms, caskets and credit cards don't.

I don't disagree but who forced anyone to buy this crap. Kids do have parents whose job is to watch over them.

Maybe it should be the other way around, considering when the more esoteric items started coming out.

Exactly. Most bands have schwag targeted towards kids and teenagers. They're definitely trying to milk the over-25 crowd. Credit card's the prime example.

I don't think the sales on the condoms and caskets are overhwhelming. Condoms might get some sales at gag gifts stores, like Spencer's...but the casket just boggles the mind.
