Well, Mark Cuban is already proving, once again, that “year-to-year roster consistency” is a four-letter word. But he's clearly maneuvering to attempt to get Shaq...

Read about it here.

So... does Stackhouse help the team, or is it just a case of Cuban attempting to build a fantasy-league team instead of a team that can win a championship? And speaking of winning a championship... anyone think Cuban'll be able to get Shaq?

And even if they do, does that trade necessarily push them over the top in the Western Conference?

I'm not even certain that Stackhouse will stay. It wouldn't surprise me, for cap reasons, if he were sent on to the Lakers for Shaq.

I would presume that this will get done, if it's going to happen, before the draft. But who knows at this point.

Antoine Walk & Laettner make a better Cap package for the Lakers as they both have one year left and combine for approx. $20m.

Stack gets $7m and would be a terrible fit with Kobe - IMHO.

That's if Kobe comes back, he's opted out of his contract.

From what I've heard, the Lakers are probably not interested in Stackhouse, that he is there to replace Michael Finley who they will try and package in the Walker/Laetner deal to LA, instead of having to give up NOwitzki. I guess it's not a bad deal, if you can get Shaq and keep NOwitzki the Mavs are in pretty good shape, I just had it (if it's true) because I like FInley and can't stand the thought of him wearing a Lakers jersey. I'm not sure if it's true or not though, I thought Finley and Nash were pretty much untouchable to Cuban, but I guess if you had to choose giving up Finley or Nowitzki that you'd want to keep Dirk.

Also, I feel badly for Jamison, he was wasting away in Golden State, he finally gets his chance to play for a good team and ends up on the bench, now he gets his starting job back, but it's for Washington? Ewww. Although it's a good move for Washington, I'd rather build around Jamison than Stackhouse.

And I think it's pretty much a gurantee that Kobe comes back if they find a way to get rid of Shaq.

Actually, I think it's pretty much a given that Nash will NOT be back in Dallas next season.

The Mavs are a good fit for Shaq....well, I guess I should say Shaq is a good fit for the Mavs. With an aging roster, Dallas is in a definite "win now" mode instead of building for the future like a lot of other teams. And with no established "dominator" they need someone like Shaq badly.

I'm surprised that the Lakers would deal Shaq to a Western conference rival, but perhaps that's just a sign of how badly he wants to be dealt, and/or how badly the Lakers want to get him and his contract off the books.

If Dallas gets Shaq, they're probably the best to beat in the West (and perhaps the NBA) next year.

Depends on who Dallas has to give up to get Shaq. If its Dirk/Nash going to LA, then Shaq's supporting cast won't be much better than what he had in LA last year.
