How can no one have mentioned SKATE OR DIE!!!!!! WOHOOO!!!
Tecmo Bowl was freaking cool. Walter Payton was the bomb and LT for the Giants could get a sack every down. You could drop back to the end zone and throw from end of the field to the other. Classic.
I still have my Rob the Robot as well. I hear he is worth some money, but I don't know. Maybe he can put my grandkids through college!
Contra= Up,Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start.
I got really into Maniac Mansion and Faxnadu at one point as well. I was a loyal subscriber to Nintendo Power and had Manic Mansion maps hanging all over my room.
Those were the days.

Jesus, I can't believe I forgot about Skate or Die... this thread is making me feel old .
This whole thread has also reminded me of the entirely stupid amount of time that I spent playing "Duck Tales". Even though it certainly wasn't a classic by any means, it was just one of those games that I had to beat. Was "Double Dragon" on the NES or was that on the Master System?

Both. DD was more arcade like on the SMS, tho--you could play 2 at the time.
And Ducktales ruled the world. Much like the Mega Man games, just a little easier.

HUGE props to the person who mentioned Super Dodge Ball as that game owned the world. I have a soft spot for the game Double Dribble as well, as it's still probably my favorite basketball game I've ever played. Another one from that era I miss was Blades of Steel, which I just remember being a way smooth hockey game.

Regular "Ice Hockey" was fun for what it was...the control scheme was better than Blades.
I was also all about the Goonies games. I'm such a nerd.

While there are dozens of great NES games, none were better than Balloon Fight. Flap your arms as fast as you can and try to pop the balloons of the badguys flapping around you who are trying to pop yours. Take too long and you'll have lightning balls to contend with. Woo!

Some of my favorites...
-Super Mario Bros.
Spend months on months on this game (was my first NES game). I was so obsessed with winning it that I went almost a year without getting another NES game until I finally beat it. Amazingly enough a lot of people at my school had not beaten it and I ended up going to two people's houses just so they could see me beat the game so they could see the ending (which was a let down. A harder game? I should of let Bowser eat you bitch!)
(I skip SMB 2 since I was never fond of that one).
-Super Mario Bros. 3
Again I was obsessed with this game on-and-off for a few years. Finally one sunday I sat down and went through all 8 worlds in one sitting. Took me 6 hours: Including pausing the game for church (the one time prayer ended up working for me!), and lunch. God it felt great when I won.
-Mega Man 3
The best MM game IMO, even though I beat it in 3 weeks. Still fun to play once in a while. And no RM theme will ever top Shadow Man's SWANK theme. I really like all the Mega Man NES games thinking about it/
-Tecmo Super Bowl
Best NES sports game. I will not argue this. Essentially the same game as Tecmo Bowl but with all the NFL teams that made it really cool for me. IMO this game kicks all those fancy new NFL games asses. But that's just me.
-Ninja Gaiden I
I never actually beat this game, but it was a damn cool game.
-Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game
This has to do more with my TMNT insanity I experienced at the time more then actual game play. However It never got tedious as opposed to TMNT III.
Still the best system ever IMO was the SNES. But that's for another thread.

When the NES first came out, my dad bought one for me and my sister. My uncle was playing it after we got it hooked up, and thought that when you hit the question blocks you get asked a question.. since I was 6, I laughed my ass off. I think that NES is better than some of the newer systems out today, because it was so simple. All you had was 2 buttons. There was no fumbling around for the right button to press or having to remember that in "Game A" the B button was attack, not A like in "Game B". Hopefully that made sense. Anyway.. my top 3 NES games would have to be Tecmo Bowl, Super Mario Brothers 2, and Contra.. I still remember the 30 lives code from that.

Ahh an NES discussion now this I can get into, anyway here are some of my personal faves that may or may not have been covered already
IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER
Mega Man 1-6 (Hey I am a Mega Man mark even a bad one is better then 90 % of all those shitty lincenced games)
Crystalys (The game that said the world was going to end on October 9 1997)
Super Tecmo Bowl
Dragon Warrior 3
River City Ransom
Double Dragon 1 and 2 (did not care much for 3 though)
The Legend of Zelda
Duck Tales (Hey it ruled for a Disney Game)
Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 (Like Double Dragon the series fell apart around 3)
Final Fantasy (It was not mind blowingly good but it did start the series)
GI Joe (Half decent shooter based on the cartoon)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 and 3 (Did not like the first one but the secend and third kicked booty)
Tecmo World Wrestling
Pro Wrestling (A WINNER IS YOU)
Destiny of an Empire (Very underrated RPG from Capcom)
Glogo 13 Top secret episode (More of a sentamental favoite as it was the first video game I had ever seen where the main character had sex and smoked, Untill Liesure Suit Larry that is)
