Over at IMDb.com, they say that Harvey Weinstein and Bob Weinstein are reportedly in talks to leave Disney for FOX. If this is true, does this hurt Disney? I mean they cannot be doing great business if Miramax wants to just leave, just like Pixar did. but I do think if this is true that it helps FOX.

How silly is to have a falling out with Disney over Michael Moore?

That's not what I would call great options. It would probably be more financially prudent if they do leave to take the Library with them. What good is the name if they don't have the films to go with it?

And all of this over Michael Freaking Moore...

In other (probably coincidental) news, "eternal optimist" Eisner is publically quoted saying he hopes that a new deal with Pixar can still be hammered out...

You have to wonder about Eisner these last few years. They passed on the LOTR Trilogy and Harry Potter. How many more debacles can his tenure stand?

No harm for the rest of us. I'm not LOTR fan, but I can imagine a Disneyfied version of the Harry Potter films...

Couldn't be any worse than the crap Chris Columbus shat upon the screen for the first two. Even with such excellent source material, he sucked all the magic and wonder out of it. The third one looks excellent, by the way.

Once Chronicles of Narnia comes out, we might just have an answer to that question.

I'm no huge fan of Disney (I haven't liked anything they've put out since they decided that all of their movies would have the same story arc and HAD to be musicals) but Eisner has turned a huge power in the animation biz into a freakin' joke. Dropping the ball on Pixar, letting movies like Home on the Range, The Emporer's New Groove, Atlantis and Treasure Planet get any further than some scriptwriter's trash can, not to mention all the horrible sequels they've shat out...

With the state Disney's in right now they can't afford a guy like Eisner running things. Get Roy back, put the Pixar guys in charge, buy a lobster tank and hire a fortuneteller to interpret their movements, ANYTHING.

Hey man, Emperor's New Groove was pretty funny.

The other 99% of your post is entirely correct.

There's been friction between Eisner and Miramax for a while -- over what exactly, I dunno, but I remember reading about it at least back when Pixar was leaving, maybe sooner; before the Michael Moore thing, in any case.

So I don't think Moore is any sole reason at all for the Weinsteins wanting to leave.

And how silly is to have a falling out over Moore? Politics aside, Moore's film is going to make buckets of money, which is always worth having a falling out over.

(Personally, I'm hoping Eisner gets the boot soon just so that he will stop fucking up Disneyland.)

I just can't picture Narnia having the appeal of LOTR or Potter. Good series but not nearly as popular or mythic.

I dunno... it's a well-loved, fondly remembered series, maybe not as "classic" as LotR or as successful as Potter, but it's definitely got its fans. It's got a lot more "family" appeal (especially among the "Harry Potter is EVIL" crowd), so if it's a disappointment it could turn a lot of Disney's chosen demographic away from them and toward Fox or Dreamworks.
