I think that the Random picks would have been better. I remember a post not too long ago reading something like:

Have a Lottery Ball Machine and who's ever name pops up is the wrestler going to that side. That would set up:
"Flair's first wrestler is...(wait for the ball to pop up) The Rock!"

"Vince's first wrestler is...(wait for the ball) Funaki?"

"Flair's 2nd wrestler is...(wait) Triple H"

"Vince's 2nd wrestler is...(wait) Brooklyn Brawler?"

Well you get the point. I think that after pick 4 or 5, it is all over then. Who cares were Spike Dudley or Crash goes? (sorry to all the Spike and Crash fans). I think that with the random picks, they could spread the big names throughout the draft, not all in the beginning. But I do like the idea and Monday seems to be a Raw worth taping.

Well, we don't know what the draft will entail. It could be like the NFL draft with JR, King, Coach and Cole all sitting around a table waiting for Linda to come to the stand and say who Vince or Flair picked. Then, they go around a say if it was a good decision or not. I'd love to hear Lawler or JR go off about what a bad pick Hall or Nash would be and how Vince doesn't understand the draft at all. During all of Raw, they can run a newsclicker on who drafted who when it becomes boring.

The other option is the random one, you are talking about. It would make for good television and get the draft over in less than 20 minutes. I do hope the draft is the first thing done on Raw. So, if Rock and Austin are not on the same show, they can square off one last time and this can be done to other rivals like Taker/Kane and RVD/Angle. It would make Raw feel like a monumental show instead of another bad idea.

A Fan- I can't believe I live an hour away from PSU and I'm not going to this.

A Fan, that would be some good TV, having JR, The King, Dr Pritchard analyzing the picks. Going over W/L records, histories, injuries, etc. Just like it was the NFL draft. I can guarantee the number for Monday's RAW will be huge. I just hope they don't screw it up. Whatever way they handle this, they have to treat it like it is a serious event. An event that will shape the future of wrestling. In other words, don't treat it like every other angle we have seen the past year.

My only question about this draft thing is "How much of RAW will it take up?"

If they make it interesting, I suppose they can take up as much of it as they want...but eventually it'll get tedious. As others have said, I don't really want to be around when it gets to

"And with the 65th selection in the WWF draft, Ric Flair has selected Scotty Too Hotty. Mr. McMahon, you have 2 minutes on the clock to make your next choice."

Maybe it'll run 1 hr 45 min, just to leave room for HHH/Jericho/Stephanie, eh?

I would think that it will have to take up most of the show since Flair has control of Raw but no official roster to set a show with. the only match that can realistically happen is one for the undisputed championship since the champion can be on either show. I wonder if they will hold up on drafting Jericho to see if he wins the title. Or does the person who wins the title have his roster spot taken by the loser to keep everything even? so many questions

The upcoming Raw is taking place in State College, Pennsylvania. I kinda wished they would have held it in Philadelphia (Smackdown will be taped there the next night). The reason is because Eagles Fan and Jets Fan are the only reason for me to watch the NFL Draft. I mean I will never forget a few years ago when the Eagles drafted Donovan McNabb and the boos came left and right. Or when the Jets drafted Kyle Brady. The Jets fans nearly rioted. That's what I want to see on Monday.

For the Smackdown group, with his 5th selection, Vince McMahon selects Crash Holly, 400+ pounds, Mobile, Alabama.

(The boos to follow as Crash passes up 10 or 12 superstars.)

So if anyone goes to the Raw on Monday boo anytime they pick a horrible wrestler. Make Eagles Fan proud
BTW, I'm a Rams fan, but they never show up for the draft.

I think what they should do for the draft is each round two names are randomly chosen, and whomever has the pick that round gets to choose. There's all sorts of angles you could work off of with that.
-The inevitable both members of a team come up the same time angle, which one do they choose?
-The two major stars come up at one time angle
-The star gets disgruntled since someone else got picked angle.
-The kid(s) of the owner come up at the same time as a major star.

Which Hardy boy would someone want to choose? What happens if the two names up for choosing are Austin/Rock? What if say UT didn't get chosen in the round his name came up in? Or if Vince had to choose between say Kevin Nash and Stephanie McMahon, or Flair between Rock and his son. Just an idea for a different way of doing it.

I think they could have the draft take up the entire 1st hour (though the people in attendance might be bored). Then in the 2nd hour have matches that we will never be able to see again because people were drafted by different sides. Maybe if the Hardyz are split, have them go in a tag match again the Dudleyz. If The Book and Edge are on seperate sides, let them have one "final" match. Capping the night off with Triple H, Jericho and Steph (HHH and Jericho would have to end in Jericho and HHH both pinning Steph to create the split in the Unified title).

I was thinking that maybe the draft will take up almost the whole show, but they will cut away from it. They'll stick with it for the big picks at the beginning, but as time goes on they will go to matches, and update us on who has been picked. They can go back to it everyone once in a while.

Monday night might not be the most entertaining Raw ever, but it will be VERY interesting- especially from a historical perspective.

Being a Roto freak, I think they should do the draft auction style...throw out a random wrestlers name for a buck, or whatever you want the starting price to be, and let the two bid on the guy. This method could have some interesting results.

I've been wondering how they are going to make this draft thing entertainment friendly. Afterall, I don't find the prospect of actually watching a draft too exciting. Then again, I guess ESPN does well with its NFL Draft coverage, so others must feel differently about a draft's entertainment value.

I personally think the WWF draft should take up no more than 30 mins or the crowd will get bored.

It would have been nice if RAW was at MSG next week! It would feel more like a real draft.

Trust me when I say this Western PA crowds get bored quickly. Granted, we still are the best fans in the state if not the world, Philly fans bitch too much and wonder why none of their players play hard for them come crunch time, but its hard press for any crowd to get fired up for a draft. Unless you are from Philly and just want to boo guys who you obviously know nothing about, but will carry your ass to the NFC Championship Game.

I do think if the draft is first, the people selected should come to the ring to stand beside the person who picked them, the fans don't feel cheated for not seeing the stars in action if it runs for an hour. I do think the WWF will do something to make the draft go by quick ie lottery style or just a 30 second clock on who to pick. I don't think an hour and 45 minute draft would assume any live crowd espically one used to having really good Raw and Smackdown shows.

A Fan- Damnit, why can't my spring break start next Monday instead of now.

I was recently at a Smackdown taping and the crowd got antsy sitting there for a two minute commercial break... I really hope they don't think one match (with HER at that) is going to appease what has been a good crowd at PSU.

My bet is that they do the draft as commercial bumpers, and maybe fill a segment or two with it. They could pre-tape the whole thing (from the 'bored' room) and set up some 'drama' shots that they seem to love so much. I'm sure we'll see VKM's 'Super Big Gulp' in there somewhere. They may even want to just show a graphic or scroll for the majority of the picks.

Another possibility is doing the whole thing in ring with about 10 minutes left in the show and having someone (Austin, NWO, whatever...) run in kick the shit out of whatever props they have set up and end the show. It wouldn't be very satisfying, but that way they don't have to take up so much TV time letting us know that Shawn Stasiak will be on Smackdown, while Steve Blackman is team Raw. They could sort of non-chalantly bring out guys on whatever show that they end up on. Just a couple thoughts...

If they are going to make the draft a focal point of Raw, the best thing to do would be to have a scroll bar on the bottom like they do with yearly sports drafts. Have the show go normally with all the wrestlers not yet selected seem dejected. Every couple minutes a little flash bar pops up and says who has been selected next. This might sound real nasty but why not have somebody that is on TV everyday not get picked, have him interviewed and see how he feels about being "out of work." Of course it will lead to him ending up on a show, but that's just part of the angle.

Maybe I'm starting to get too into coming up with ideas for this thing, but just from those few sentences it's obvious that with a couple minutes of thinking the WWF can make something very interesting of this draft. On the other hand these are the same people who made HHH get more upset over his dog getting run over than the fact that he was going to be in the Main Event at Wresltemania for the Undisputed Title and that should have been all the motivation he needed.

I'd be suprised if we saw much "drafting" at all. I'm thinking maybe we'll see the first few picks, then bumper clips throughout the show to remind the folks at home, and then get the final rosters at the end of the show.

I would be very suprised if they make 10,000-plus wrestling-hungry fans sit in an arena for two hours to see a draft.

Random picks would make things more interesting, but not interesting enough to captive a live, sold-out arena.

I'm sure things will get really exciting towards the last half hour of Hour #2 on RAW. That's when it comes down to Flair making the hard choice between the Hurricaine, the Godfather, and... one of those other midcard guys.

I think both have their advantages and disadvantages. Drafting certainly clears the way for a logical explaination for why the nWo won't be on RAW (if they actually stick to the storyline), because Flair doesn't want them on his show. It will help Vince and Flair both customize their rosters so that they're consistent with what each show is supposed to provide. Besides, if it was all random, then one guy could get some really shitty draws. The draft form is exciting, except for that whole middle hour where nobody will care about all of the JTTS/midcarders.

The drawing could be exciting, too, when you consider why the Royal Rumble is usually one of the best matches of the year. It's unpredictable and you don't know who's going to come out next, but the goal of this Flair vs Vince rivalry is that both have their different views on how the WWF should work, and we'll hopefully see that reflected in their rosters.

They both get HHH, though, so everybody wins, because nobody ever gets tired of HHH since he's the best and he beats everyone. He does it with ONE DAMNED LEG! I can't wait till Stephanie has his children and they get to be on WWF TV.

Best. Post. Ever. Except-

They probably won't wait till the babies are delivered:

Although I admit it'd be awesome to do a "draft show" or a "draft ticker", I ultimately don't think it'd be smart. Do we really need to know that Hurricane was the 78th pick in the draft? For one thing, I'm sure the real Mr. Helms would not be too thrilled to hear it. And also, it would just solidify the pecking order even more, when it's too solidified already. Unless you want everyone not picked right away to have an "I'm an underdog" gimmick immediately following the draft, which would be stupid. I think that if they don't have a specific angle planned for the guy based on where he was drafted, then they shouldn't specify where he was drafted.

Well on Dave's site he has a line-up of Flair's show. I will not divulge it here as it is a spoiler. But it appears that the suggestion someone made about drafting tag teams as a team is going to be in affect. I hope that mid-carders will actually get meaningful storylines because of this split. That was the point anyway.

I agree that anyone drafted after 10 or 15 probably would not be too happy in the locker room. So maybe the Random thing is the way to go. I am really anticipating to see how they will pull this off.
