Karl Malone needs to, first of all, learn how to spell Carl, and second eat a huge bowl of D's.
Anyways, it will be fun watching Rasheed have his way with Malone and pretty much outshine him the entire series. | DJ FrostyFreeze

Isnt this the same thing everybody said about Duncan & Garnett? And lets not even discuss who will be outshining who at the center position!
Now, these guys may have outscored Malone (Did they? I havent done the research), but he did more than hold his own against them. As a matter of fact, I might even go as far as to say that if the Lakers didnt have Malone on those guys, either of those series could have gone a different way.
As far as the finals go, this one is hard to call. Of course the Lakers are gonna win and it's not gonna take all 7 games. But with the 2-3-2 schedule, I'm having a hard time deciding if it'll go 5 or 6. | JayJayDean

C'mon Frosty! You KNOW if it's 3-1 LA going into Game 5, the Lakers will bag it so they can clinch at home. (see LA-Minnesota)
EDIT: I'm 100% in agreement with those who hate the Mailman, but he gave KG ALL he could handle on the defensive end, and anything Rasheed can do, KG can do five times better.

Totally agree. He put 40 stitches in Isiah Thomas' head simply for lighting up his boy John Stockton earlier. He's ended a college player's career and knocked David Robinson (arguably the nicest guy ever in the NBA) unconscious and given him a concussion. But they ARE the best defensive team in the NBA, so they are going to play them better than the previous teams. And the other guys on the team aren't going to be scoring a whole lot against them. So how many can Shaq/Kobe score against this good a defense? Maybe 60 points combined. Maybe 10 - 15 points by the rest of the team. As long as the Pistons score 80 a game they'll be fine. And I think they can do that, Sure they didn't score 80 every game against the Pacers, but the Pacers are a good defensive team, the Lakers are not as good. Maybe Malone or Fisher has a big game and that puts them over the hump, but I don't think they do it four times. Pistons in 7. | Torchslasher

... Pretty much agree with you; I'm thinking THIS year's Laker team will win in 6, as opposed to the Laker teams of 2-3 years ago which would have won in 4 or 5.
I LIKE this year's Pistons team, though. Getting Rasheed was great for them. They work, they battle, they're gritty. They just don't have the consistent offense to beat the Lakers four times. When the Lakers go into high-intensity defense mode, they're every bit as impressive as the Pistons' D, and we're gonna see that in this series. | Reverend J Shaft

Best of 5 going back to Detroit but the Lakers dodged a huge bullet here. I wonder if the world will give the Horses their props since they came THISCLOSE to going back home up 2-0.
Interesting stat: The team who didn't have home court coming in to the Finals has NEVER swept their home games ( i/e 3,4 and 5). The road team has though (2001 Lakers against the Sixers). | DJ FrostyFreeze

Too bad he can't shoot free throws. He's like Rodman on 'roids...and without the mental incapabilities. The Pistons need him in there to compete. In a related opinion, they should keep Big Nasty as far away from the floor as possible at all times.
I enjoyed how the editor of the little "we're going off the air" highlight compilation slipped in the quick shot of Payton pouting on the sideline. Didn't stand out at all against all the actual game footage. Not unlike seeing Al Michaels dancing/pantomiming to that...awesome theme song. Or announcers canonizing Karl Malone after Rasheed Wallace scores his fourth straight basket on him.
I'm sorry Doc, but Malone was NOT having a great game.

| #36 Posted on 9.6.04 0248.24 Reposted on: 9.6.11 0249.02 | That game tonight was great. It's always fun watching the media do a "What? what are you talking about? We never said (Team X that was supposed to dominate the series) would have an easy time!" after the Pistons win the first one, and by all rights should have won the second one. I'll take Lakers in game 3, Pistons in 4 and 5, then Pistons again in game 6 back at LA. But if that doesn't happen and it goes to a game 7, I don't see the Pistons having much of a chance there at all. Detroit HAS to be able to catch them off guard like they did in game one, and there's no way LA would be "down" for a game 7 in the finals at home.
I ALMOST got tickets for game 5 the other day, but no dice. Too bad, since I'm only about 20 minutes from the Palace.
It's going to be interesting to see if the Pistons play really flat now because of the disappointment of letting a sure win get away before they can get back on track. That's the main reason I'm going with LA in game 3.
*Edit*
Like the post above, I'm also wondering about the non-foul at the end when Shaq had the ball. I saw Larry Brown saying "we don't foul on a shot like that where they could make it a 4 point play if he got the shot off"...but COME ON. SHAQ? He never would have made that shot, and he probably would have missed 2 of the 3 free throws.
And yeah, go Pistons.

Ive noticed the NBA doing that before also. I remember when karl was still with the jazz and they were just running a hightlight commercial with dunks and shots. it showed karl malone commiting an obvious charging foul with his knee in someones neck. | KaneRobot

Whoa. This wasn't even close. By all rights, the Pistons should be on the verge of a sweep. I really thought for sure the Pistons would drop this one after the way game 2 ended.

Apparently this is the first time the Lakers have failed to score 70 points since moving to LA. What's really amazing is had Kobe Bryant not hit that shot, it would be 3-0.
I'll ask the question again: Will Detroit get respect now? Their defense is literally carrying them right now and they have an opportunistic offense which capitalizes on its defense very well. I don't think most people thought they'd win two much less the two of first three.
Though in the Lakers defense, the free throw differential is a bit suspect.
2-1 Pistons. I think the Lake Show will take Game 4 since they cannot afford to go down 3-1 and they play extremely well when their backs are against the wall (the Spurs series).
NOTE: Darko Milicic played in the NBA Finals in his rookie year. LeBron and Carmelo can't say that.
