I could see Tekken as an anime...and that happened a few years ago...and it was bad. But a MOVIE?! For some reason, I think I can already smell the stench of this movie. I like the Tekken series, but every fighting game I remember seeing that was translated into a movie besides the first Mortal Kombat was terrible.

| #5 Posted on 19.5.04 1151.58 Reposted on: 19.5.11 1153.51 | If they focus on the tournament with some backstory in between fighting segments (ala Bloodsport) then it could work quite well. Unlike 'Street Fighter' or 'Mortal Kombat', 'Tekken' is fairly realistic, so there's no reason they couldn't take a good martial arts tournament movie and overlay the Tekken characters.
If they venture into Mortal Kombat/Street Fighter movie territory, it could most certainly suck. (And I liked the first Mortal Kombat, so no need to flame me for that comment, I just don't think that style would work for Tekken.)
The biggest problem with a Tekken movie is that they probably won't use the single greatest thing about any Tekken game ever..... Gon.
Incidentally, a movie based on the 'Dead or Alive' franchise is also in the works. It's being directed by Corey Yuen, who did 'The Transporter' and being written by J.F. Lawton, the scribe behind 'Under Seige' and 'Pretty Woman'. (Talk about diversity.)
I'd say the same rules apply to making a good Dead or Alive movie, except that DoA would have to work a volleyball scene into the movie at some point.
So the only question that remains is... Where the hell is the Soul Calibur movie? (It looks like there was one released in 2002, but only in Chinese. Apparently Sony has the rights to Soul Calibur 2.) | astrobstrd

The cast of characters includes a robotic samurai (Yoshimitsu), a bio-engineered super-soldier (Jack) and a robotic prototype copy of him (Gun Jack), a martial arts zombie (Bryan Fury), a crazed martial arts demon (Kazuya) and his freaky-ass half-demon son (Jin), and, of course, an Aztecan god of war (Ogre/Toshin).
I say if they just go nuts and be absolutely crazy and over-the-top without taking themselves TOO seriously, it'll pull through. | InVerse

Then again, I guess I haven't really played Tekken since Tekken 2, so I'm not exactly up on the characters and their stories. I always played as Gon. | reddragon

| #10 Posted on 20.5.04 1443.39 Reposted on: 20.5.11 1444.49 | You always played Gon. Gon is a hack character in Tekken 3 unless you're talking about that Dinosaur called Alex i think.
(Maybe the names change when they jump across the pond.)
Anyway Tekken has a nice back-story so it could make sense in a movie i guess.
I want to see a Soul Caliber movie because the story/back-story of each character is well researched and they all fit into the story well.
Also the main story is bloody brilliant and simple. Its a quest for the ultimate sword.
Not a fighting tournament like most of these games are.
Finally I'm interested to see in the game whether is Raphael becomes the new 'Nightmare' in Soul Caliber 3 that would be good. | DarkRenegade

| #11 Posted on 21.5.04 0235.04 Reposted on: 21.5.11 0235.32 | Actually, a guy from another board said that he read something about a Soul Calibur movie being made as well. He didn't say where he got the information though, so I can't go and find any articles...so don't take my word for it.
Zhang Ziyi or Chiaki Kuriyama would ROCK as Xiyao (probably spelled it wrong). For some reason, I could see Jackie Chan fitting PERFECTLY in Lei's role...although I doubt they could get him to do the part. Hmm...it'll be hard to cast a person that looks like Jack...unless they get that one kid from Tough Enough 2.
But the real question...who's gonna play MOKUJIN? | Yeah8a8y

| #13 Posted on 21.5.04 0702.57 Reposted on: 21.5.11 0703.50 | Jack would probably have a menial role, and as such, would probably be a no-name.
Heihachi (SP?) could be played by Ken Watanabe from Last Samurai, if he's up for it. Bruce Lee is dead, so Law shouldn't be involved, and unless they get Jackie Chan, Lee should sit it out too, IMO. The way I see it, they'll make the movie using a few of the characters, none of the story, but 100% of the license.
Prediction: Paul, Heihachi, Kazuya, Michelle, Anna, and Law, make it to the flick, Jack gets a cameo, and King and Yoshimitsu only make it in after some character alteration. | InVerse

And Gon's own SNES game rocks as well. It's a Japan only release, but as there are no words in the entire game, it's perfectly playable by people who don't speak Japanese. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
