I had 0.4 seconds (well, you know what I mean) to marvel at Tim Duncan's off-balanced prayer over Shaq. As a diehard Laker hater, that shot ranks in the top 5 shots I have ever seen in the NBA. I wanted to run out into the streets and dance with someone. Ah yes, tonight was to be a good night.

But nooooooooo. Derek Fisher stole Christmas. I still think Duncan's shot was the more impressive of the last two "lucky shots," but what does it matter now? Sigh. Well, at least I still have the Nets.

How can you be the home team in the NBA and not ensure that there is less than .3 seconds left on the clock? For the love of Red Auerbach, that's part of the home court advantage. And, it seemed like they waited a slight bit before restarting the clock. Catch and shoot yes, catch/shift body/shoot and ball away with still .1 on the clock? And for the road team no less? I'll give Fisher credit though, that was an impossible shot.

nevermind top 5 - that WAS THE shot of all shots... .4 seconds left, talk about clutch!!

Shaq said it best, "one lucky shot deserves another"..

That shot single handedly saved basketball here in LA!

Seriously, Duncans shot was crazy. Kobes shot was clutch. Fisher's shot caused an earthquake here as I'm sure everyone in LA jumped at the exact same moment!

What a shot!

What a game!

Stu

PS - Other clutch shots in recent memory : Horry's shot that sank the Queens, Kobe's shot against Portland to win, Mike Bibbys shot against the Lakers in Game 5, Jordan's shot against Utah...

great post there JT...

What a difference a year makes..

What a difference .1 of a second makes...If there was .3 of a second left, the Rules state that the Lakers couldn't have even been allowed to take a shot!!

What a GAME!!

I'm not a big fan of Kobe - but you have to respect the hell out of the man. He's a warrior without question...

Dehydrated and hyperventilating after playing 47 minutes in Game 5, Kobe Bryant was administered two bags of intravenous fluid before leaving SBC Center.

"Exhausted," trainer Gary Vitti said as Bryant boarded the team bus, which was delayed about 20 minutes as Bryant received treatment.

With players and team personnel waiting around the bus, some on folding chairs, some standing, many having found food and drink in nearby vending machines, Bryant emerged from the locker room.

Surrounded by team officials and bodyguards, Bryant, who scored 22 points and made a go-ahead basket with 11 seconds left, walked slowly among them. He wore a gray sweatshirt, its hood pulled around his face. His hands were stuffed in the pockets and his head was down.

In the hour after the game, Bryant showed symptoms of dehydration and fatigue. For several minutes, he could not catch his breath. Vitti supplied him with a bag and he covered his mouth with it until he was able to fill his lungs and breathe fully.

Immediately after the game, Manu Ginobili made a new friend... former Cleveland Cavaliers player Craig Ehlo.

C'mon, I'm ashamed of you, DJFrostyFreeze, for not making that joke before I did. And I thought you were the #1 Lakers fan on the planet. LOL...

I just can't get enough of that final shot. Nor can I get enough of the Al Michaels call.

"They get it to Fisher. HE SCORES!!! DEREK FISHER...scores...at the buzzer!!!"

Elegantly said? Debatable. Memorable call? Hell yeah, it was! I only wish Chick Hearn was still around, because THAT was a true Laker moment he would have loved.

Sorry, DJFF, but no way. Fisher's shot was just as clutch as Duncan's...but it wasn't that difficult a shot. Duncan's, though, was a CRAZY falling-down-not-even-looking-at-the-hoop-desperation-please-please-please-go-in shot...and he made it.

Fisher and the Lakers just had the last laugh, though.

I had a question about this. Why in the NBA when you call a timeout after a basket scored do you get the ball at half court. Is this a rule? I just figured the way college does it makes sense, you call a timeout after a made basket you get the ball underneath your opponant's basket.

It's the rule.

Also, that was a great finish, but a HORRIBLE game. 74-73, with the two teams missing all kinds of open shots, combined FG% of 40% and combined FT% of 50%. Ugly, ugly basketball. I'm sorry, but 47 minutes and 48 seconds of suck does not make up for 12 seconds of greatness; that was a dog of a game. And, there was enough time between Duncan's shot and the subsequent Laker inbound that I could feed my daughter (who woke up during the Spurs' last possession) another 1.5 ounces, burp her, calm her and put her back to sleep without missing any live action.

It is a rule, only for full timeouts I think? But i've always thought it was pretty stupid too. How does calling a timeout justify you getting to go to half court, doesn't make sense to me.

Yeah, that was a great last 11 seconds or whatever it was but come on, that wasn't a "great game", it was UGLY. But kudos to the Lakers, now if only the Kings can get past the TWolves for another Lakers/Kings matchup.

But there's no way Fisher's shot was better than Rex Chapman's running turn around lob three pointer that one year when he was playing for the Suns.

chick was the greatest, anyone taken a look at his memoirs that were just released?

as far as that being un ugly game, it wasnt. the fourth quarter wasnt good til the end but most of that game was played very well. good defense doesnt equal a bad game.

that shot was the greatest shot i have ever seen as a laker fan. kobe and robert have hit some big ones but for anyone who understands what was riding on this game, that was the biggest. at this point you'd have to be crazy to not think the lakers are gonna win it all. wow.

As TT said, Duncan's shot was basically unpossible. Besides the fact that he had no business making that kind of shot falling back like that, he shot it over SHAQ! Shaq is like eight-foot-fifty. Fisher's shot was incredible, but he got a clean look (I won't talk about the possible clock issues redsox pointed out because I was too crushed to pay attention).
