Are you FUCKING INSANE or just REALLY tone-deaf? Jasmine was clearly the WORST of the four singers Tuesday night! She's only had two or three decent performances on the whole show! You seriously think she deserves to WIN?!

Seriously, I FUCKING HATE Fantasia, but I'd never try to justify why Jasomine should win over her, even. I think Diana's going to win now, anyway.

I only got to listen to the last few minutes of clips. I tried to listen to the whole show but my wife kept bothering me. From what little I heard this week Jasmine did fine. I think she has been one of the stronger competitors since the beginning of this season as well. She is the one I would most like to see in an MTV video which is my definition of a pop star.

I remember Simon telling Fantasia and Diane that they were dressing like old ladies - or something to that effect. There was also Diane dressing like the ugly bridesmaid. Image is important.

That explains a lot to me about your comment. Her two performances were CLEARLY the worst of the lot. The audience has a good reson at flip out during the results show.

I agree that she could make some fine videos, and I think she could make some decent J-Lo-esque music that was more beat-intensive as opposed to voice intensive like Clay or Kelly. If she won it wouldn't be a total disaster, but vocally she just doesn't have it.

I love Jasmine to death. She's my favorite of the bunch remaining. But herein lies the flaw to the whole system. Jasmine may be my personal favorite, but that doesn't necessarily make her the BEST. This is why American Idol 4 should have a revised voting system. And somehow, I don't think the judges would disagree with this idea. I mean, even PAULA thought Jasmine should have gone home.

Mr. Dunk said it best. This is a popularity contest more than a talent contest.

And the sig doesn't lie.

How about the judges decide on a bottom 3 every week and then the people vote off the one they don't want?

They have the voting backwards with people voting for who they like. They should be voting for who they want to go home.

But the problem in having the people vote for who they want to send home is going to be that people are going to try to gang up on certain people they think is going to be competition of their favorite person. So then, the person that wins is basically going to be the person that no one gives a shit about, most likely.

I agree there is no need to change the voting. I think the problem is that the judges got too cute with picking the contestants (i.e. John Stevens and JPL). You can't tell me they picked the 32 best singers out of all the applicants.

Also, I know it's a popularity contest, but it still disappoints me that America has been voting through people (again, John Stevens, and Jasmine from last week) because people can vote an unlimited number of times. I think they should find a way to cap it at five votes allowed per phone number. (Figuring an average of five per family, one vote each.)

They all did well during Big Band week so it didn't bother me that at that point it WAS a popularity contest, but when one is so far below the rest it bugs me that other people get kicked off at their expense because they are mor popular (or Hawaiian).

I don't understand why they just don't tell America who to vote OFF rather than who they want to keep??

It's much easier to pick who you want gone than it is who you want to win. If there is someone who is obviously worse than everyone else, America can vote for that person to go, rather than diluting that vote by having it go to the person they want to win.

If 9 people felt Jasmine should go but are forced to vote for their favorite, you can theoretically have 3 votes a piece for Diana, LaToya & Fantasia instead of 9 votes saying they want Jasmine out...

Basically, have people vote for their least favorite & the "bottom 3" will just be the most vote getters & probably will consist of those who deserve to be sent home.

Of course I don't watch the show, I just follow it on The W... :-)

They won't get as many phone calls that way, and they won't get as many ads served for Coke or Ford or what have you, which translates to money.

"American Idol" is really brilliant, actually, because they've made it as much of a competition between fan factions to see who has the voting power to keep their favorites on the show as it is a competition between singers. It's easy to have a consensus "worst" contestant, the kind of deal where you think, "Boy, that sucked, I'm going to vote against that person," and so you call once because it's not like (in most cases) you hate that person that much. But if you really really really love a contestant and want to do everything in your power to keep them on, then you will call 20, 30 times, or whatever it takes over the course of two hours.

I'm guilty of having used both my landline and my cel simultaneously for the entire voting period for Kelly, and then using the landline while simultaneously text-messaging votes for Ruben. That's exactly the kind of behavior they try to inspire. Look at all the people in this thread who admitted to voting for Jasmine this week! The psychology works, man, cha-ching.

I am!!! And Diana is the female Clay. She's got his freakish pathological Thank-kewww (You love me, yes, you really love me) thing down pat. I'll have to check next time to see if one of her eyes squints more than the other.
