While Stairway is the mother of all guitar solos, I'm not sure I'd have picked Sweet Child as best overall riff. My pick would definitely be some AC/DC.

I thought AC/DC might have more in the riff section, but some may argue that it's all too similar. If you want Blood and Hells Bells mustn't have been too far away.

| #5 Posted on 4.5.04 2123.50 Reposted on: 4.5.11 2124.24 | The top five solos seem to be obligitory to these lists, as they were the same when I was playing about six years ago. Sure they will be the same in another six years since the solo is dead. In which case, I'm glad 'Floods' is recognized as the last great solo. | Retrovertigo

That's the biggest problems with these lists is that they often restrict them to one per artist. G'n'R, Metallica and Zepplin are the only repeat performers in the riffs list, which is a travesty to Jimi Hendrix.
I also agree that "Sultans of Swing" should be on there. | spf

The little riff on Breakdown is pretty damn cool. One of the few guitar riffs I get stuck in my head for days at a time. | DrDirt

Not only that, but going off of just the magazine's name, it's probably going to be geared more towards the fans of 80's virtuoso wankers. At least assuming that they're still like they are when I got a couple ten years ago...

Gotta agree with you on that one Big Bad. Satisfaction should be at worst in the top 5.
EDIT: Another thing, no Rush songs on the riff list? No "Limelight", no "Spirit of Radio"? No "Working Man"? C'mon...

Fair point. "More flawed than even lists normally are" would be a better way of putting it. |
