| #1 Posted on 29.4.04 1349.12 Reposted on: 29.4.11 1349.28 | So my buddy is coming over Friday for a night of gaming and drinking. Normally, we're all over EA sports games (mostly Madden, NCAA, TW2004 and MVP). But I think we're in the mood for something else.
We're both 28 and have been gaming for our whole lives. Other than sports games we enjoy RPGs, RTSs, adventure, basically anything. I suppose FPSs least of all.
We're looking for a game (or two) that will keep us entertained for 10 hours or so of gaming. 2 player versus is fine - 2 player co-op will be better.
I have some ideas, but would like to hear yours. System doesn't matter, I have every major system ever made (except for Dreamcast). So let the suggestions roll. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated - suggestions with reasons would be even better.
Thanks in advance. | Promote this thread! | | JayJayDean

I believe the newer Guantlet (Legends, it is?) game is co-op too, and that was alot of fun if you like that sort of thing.
Thinking about all this really makes me hope the new SD game for PS2 will have a co-op system in Season Mode. That would be killer | Torchslasher

Actually, my friends and I had some fun recently with the X-Box version of Freestyle Street Soccer. And lastly, there's always the standby of Smackdown: HCTP.

It has a co-op mode where you have to team up to steal six scrolls scattered through out the land. Then, the competitive mode is somewhat like a FPS, were you go around and try to kill each other. But since I HATE FPS as well, I can say that it's not in first person, and you only go in first person if you shoot something.
Other than that, I'd recommend Super Smash Brothers. | The Amazing Salami

| #10 Posted on 29.4.04 1615.26 Reposted on: 29.4.11 1616.35 | I'll second the Halo suggestion. Co-op mode is fun, and my buddy and I lost 10 hours of our lives (and a 30 pack) to that game.
Getting drunk and playing games seems to be a popular activity nowadays. Games we've played lately are listed below.
For the NES: NARC - Good fun had by all, and what beats blowing up a clown with a rocket launcher? (nothing) Double Dragon 2 or 3: Beat em up, 2 player mode is very fun. A few frustrating jumping puzzles in part 2, but it's superior to part 3.
Genesis: Streets of Rage (any version, we played part 2) - Fun beat em up. Sgt. Chaos - Two teams of 4 (or was it 5) troops in a level try to repeatedly kill each other. Extraordinarily fun, and I don't remember it being overly popular. Highly recommended.
N64: Perfect Dark (co-op death matches vs. bots) - Goldeneye engine, pretty smart bots (if you ramp up the difficulty), great level design. | Bongo P. Michinoku

The latest Bond game has a decent co-op mode. Ditto for the aformentioned Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven. Of course, you can't beat either Soul Calibur game if you get tired of playing nice. | Doc_whiskey

Dreamcast: Worms Armageddon Virtua Tennis
PS1: Arcade classics (I cant remember which one, but one has Smash TV which is all kinds of awesome two player coop) Crash Team Racing Frogger (2 player aint so great but if you have a couple more friends it becomes fun) Micro Machines V3 (see frogger)
PS2: Ace Combat 4 (two player dogfights) Starsky and Hutch (Basically one guy can drive and the other shoots, and if you have a racing wheel and light gun, its awesome)
Xbox: Kung Fu Chaos Mechassault Top Spin Tennis Splinter cell Pandora's Tomorrow (Xbox live rules)

... The two player games I wear out are Super Monkey Ball for the Gamecube and Cel Damage for the Xbox. Not sure why, but those are the ones that stuck with my circle of friends the most. They're both easy to pick up and play, they are involving and competitive, and they offer a chance to choose a certain character that suits an individual style of play.

... Ahh, yes. Only thing; we have to outlaw the "dive past the line of scrimmage and instantly sack the QB" move. There was another game -- Mutant League Football for the Genesis. Played like an extreme version of Madden; a lot of killing going on. In fact, we'd have to tone down the roughness setting, otherwise every game would end in a forfeit due to too many players dying. What fun. | ekedolphin

| #19 Posted on 3.5.04 0307.06 Reposted on: 3.5.11 0307.13 | I'll give you a HELL YEAH (hell yeah!) for playing co-op Perfect Dark. My sister and I used to play 5-on-5 co-op with three bot teammates and five bot opponents for hours on end. My favorite weapons include the SuperDragon, the Laptop Gun in sentry mode (perfect for when you and your teammate are staking out a certain spot, or for defending while playing Capture the Case), and the good ol' trusty CMP150 (or as I like to call it, the “sim-piz-mo”).
Of course, if you're in the mood for a good competitive game, Perfect Dark fits the bill on that one, too. Nothing quite like watching your little sister blow up your littler (male) cousin and hearing her say, “Death becomes him.” In fact, between my sister, my cousin, and me, we talked so much shit (mostly while playing GoldenEye) that I was surprised we didn't literally run out of original material. But my sister's the best shit-talker in the world when it comes to video games, so needless to say I was always entertained. | astrobstrd

| #20 Posted on 3.5.04 1054.19 Reposted on: 3.5.11 1059.01 | What's great about Perfect Dark is the crazy amount of customization you can do. Try these games...
Resident Evil-You and a teammate versus 8 Dark Level Turtle bots (1/2 speed, double shield) Weapons (Knife, Shotgun, Pistol (forget which one), crossbow, Magnum, shield). You will NEVER flat out win this game...the real game is to see who has the best kill/death ratio at the end.
Matrix-Forget the name of the level, but the one that looks just like the lobby from the matrix. Matrix weapons only (pistol, shotgun, CMP150). Selective slo-mo (turns on only when near an enemy).
Pacifist Tag-Tag with 3 teams. One is yourself, one a friend, one is 4 perfect (or dark) level pacifist bots. The perfect bots will never kill you, but they will try their hardest to take your weapons and make you as dizzy as possible. |
