| #1 Posted on 20.4.04 1821.03 Reposted on: 20.4.11 1821.03 | I'm looking to make a baseball themed CD, I've got some of the more obvious ones out of the way, but I'm looking for suggestions. Here's what I have so far:
1. Theme from "Baseball Tonight" 2. Steve Goodman - Go Cubs Go 3. James Earl Jones' "The People Will Come" speech from Field of Dreams 4. The Simpsons - Talkin' Baseball 5. Robert De Niro's baseball speech from The Untouchables 6. Alabama - Cheap Seats 7. George Carlin - Baseball vs Football 8. Terry Cashman - Talkin' Baseball (Chicago Cubs) 9. Lou Gehrig's farewell speech (very bad quality, and very short, I'd like to get a better version of this) 10. John Fogerty - Centerfield 11. Bud Light presents Mr. Major League infield raker 12. Harry Caray Singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" 13. Bill Cosby on baseball 14. Abbot and Costello - Who's on First? 15. Adam Sandler - Right Field - (Also known as me playing baseball.) 16. Casey at the Bat recited by James Earl Jones 17. Steve Goodman - A Dying Cubs Fan's Last Request (about 50 minutes total)
I'd like either generic baseball songs, or Cubs-themed songs, but all suggestions are worthwhile. I can't find a copy of Willie, Mickey and the Duke (Talkin Baseball), but I may be searching under the wrong file name. I'd also like to get Rob Dibble's "World Champions of the World" soundbite as well. Thanks.
//edit: While I'm here, I'm looking for the score that plays during the movie Major League when we're getting introduced to the team in Spring Training. Anyone know where I can find this out at?

That version if I'm not mistaken was by the band X.
Although, if you can find the clip somewhere in the file-sharing realms of Ozzy singing at Wrigley Field, you're well on your way. | Ffej

| #6 Posted on 21.4.04 1207.32 Reposted on: 21.4.11 1209.11 | One of the best baseball songs I ever heard was when listening to WKNR in Cleveland, and they played a clip of this Indians-themed rap song called (I think) "Swing Batta Batta." It was catchy as hell, and the radio announcer actually shut up for a moment and let the song play in its entirety.
Also, I dunno if you could find these anywhere, but the Toronto Blue Jays released a player-themed novelty album in the early 1990's with songs about Joe Carter, Tom Henke, and their other various stars of that era. | Grimis

Mentioning Tom Henke reminds me of the Orioles 1989 theme "Why Not?" as we damn near won the division, as well as "Orioles Magic" which is now ancient and still played every time the O's take the field at home.

A couple ideas. The theme music (if you can find it, and I would LOVE to know what the name of it is) for This Week In Baseball always got me pumped up. Also, even though it's broader in topic than just baseball, Springsteen's "Glory Days" reminds me of playing ball with my buds. | spf

If you can get your hands on either Mike Ditka or Steve McMichael's version of Take me out.. those are high-larious.
And even though you're looking at the other side of town from where my allegiances lie, surely no one can resist Steam's "Na-Na-Hey-Hey Goodbye", a staple at White Sox games since the days of the South Side Hitmen. | CRZ

On topic.... Can't think of the comic pairs names, but they did a version of Who's On First a few years back using current (at the time) Yankees players. It aired on Comedy Central a few times...pretty good stuff. | Whitebacon

It's a retelling of a game we played for provincial playoffs back in our baseball days, with a few creative liberties thrown in.
The line "And what may later prove to be the ultimate game-winning catch" from Part II is a reference to a catch I made in that game...a ball I got such a good jump on from CF I caught it BEHIND the rightfielder. | Eddie Famous
