Those wishing to make contributions to help Roxx get back on her feet can send them or drop them off at AVN, 9414 Eton Ave., Chatsworth, CA 91311, and they will be delivered to Roxx.

God, I feel horrible for admitting this, but seeing "help her get back on her feet" struck me as SUCH the wrong thing to say about a porn actress...

It's a shame about her, the last place you want to be naive is the adult entertainment business. Hopefully at the very least she'll serve as a cautionary tale to anyone who's still wearing rose-colored glasses.

Sadly, if you're not wearing some rose-colored glasses the porn industry has no use for you. Naivete is the cornerstone of any good exploiter (doesn't make the industry bad or anything. The exploitable have to eat just like the rest of us. It's a living).

I mean think about it, how many women who aren't VERY easily-led would do a double anal scene in the first place?

I never reallt knew how fast this can spread but reading the articles on AVN it scary! How many people can possibly be infected with HIV due to one person, do we have a figure yet?

PROPHECY!!!

Especially since I was just reading about the new letter sent out by a few dozen Senators complaining that the Justice Department isn't doing enough to go after porn (and, no, I don't mean child porn or anything like that). I guess the poker thing isn't doing enough to keep our government's focus off the real problems....

I meant how many of the porn stars can possibly be infected due to having sex with one of the infected or having sex with someone who did.

On the AVN website they have a list somewhere of all the people, it was somewhere around 80 like someone said before....However, Dr. Sharon Mitchell (the doctor who does these tests) said the number of 2nd generations could be in the hundreds and that the ones listed are only a mere portion, scary shit...one of my faves (Judy Starr) was on the list which sucks

It is kinda sad to read about an 18 year old girl basically being read a death sentence...If she gets a good attorney, she could probably sue a bunch of people for an "unsafe working environment" and they would probably settle....I agree with whoever said that you hardly ever see condoms on any of the dudes in the internet porn, which is kinda a scary thought in today's day and age....One thing I cannot understand is why the fuck that guy would do a porn in Brazil?!?!?! That place is gross and a lot of bad shit happens there (I think someone mentioned the HIV epidemic down there already) Darren James I guess has gone into hiding...It's sad that he not only gambled with his life for a few bucks but with so many other peoples

I see this being an issue for the industry as a whole as Ashcroft and the "Christian Coalition" are looking for places to blame for our immoral society

I'm almost positive that Sharon Mitchell isn't a doctor. She's just the actress with enough history and clout in porn to start the AIM organizaion.

It's the highest paying scene in the heterosexual industry right now. JX can give me dollar amounts if you find it necessary. :)

She refers to herself as Dr. on a lot of the reports I have seen...and I swore in one article they stated that she went to med school and I have read in other places that she used her porn money to pay for med school (as they usually bring her in to show the few girls who do the right thing with their cash)....type her name into Google and I think her association comes up which shows her as Dr. Sharon Mitchell

If I am wrong, I will be more than happy to eat crow but I am 99% sure she went to med school

Wow, if that's true she needs to start a scholarship program so ex-actresses can follow in her footsteps. Dr. Candie Evans could ask me to cough anytime.

This (avn.com) article refers to her as "AIM's executive director, Sharon Mitchell, PhD", so that's were the "doctor" title comes in.

This (avn.com) article says four women have tested negative, but that they have to wait 30 days to be completely out in the clear. It also says two of the four have left porn.

Health chiefs asked to probe porn sets
Wednesday, April 21, 2004 Posted: 4:58 AM EDT (0858 GMT)

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Health officials asked the state Tuesday to investigate two cases of HIV infection in the pornographic film industry and to consider applying workplace safety laws to adult movie sets.

The discovery last week that two performers, one male and one female, are HIV-positive also could prompt the industry or government to consider mandating the use of condoms during filming, said Peter Kerndt, director of the sexually transmitted disease program for the Los Angeles County health department.

That would be an overreaction, said Kat Sunlove, executive director of the Free Speech Coalition, a trade association for the adult entertainment industry.

"Do we really want condom police?" she asked. "We've had two, count them two, positives in five years."

About 200 producers take in billions of dollars making thousands of adult movies each year. Many involve unprotected sex, and more than 60 performers who had contact with the two infected actors have been barred by the industry from working until their next blood tests are complete. Some companies have temporarily halted production.

The county health department wants the state's Division of Occupational Health and Safety to investigate workplace conditions at production companies that employed the male performer first found to be HIV-positive.

California's worker safety laws don't specifically cover the adult movie industry, but Cal-OSHA may have jurisdiction to enforce two general regulations. Employers must have a written plan for injury and illness prevention, and they must provide protection for workers who could be exposed to disease-infected blood or other fluids.

The second regulation has been applied to nurses, janitors and housekeepers, among others, Cal-OSHA spokeswoman Susan Gard said.

"We haven't done any inspections in the adult entertainment industry," said Gard, who wouldn't rule out the possibility that state investigators could go onto film sets.

Health officials agree the industry has a good record of self-regulation. Its last HIV scare was in 1999 and involved a single case. The industry standard requires porn performers to have HIV tests every three weeks.

"It may be good; it's not perfect," Kerndt responded. "I would regard any infection where exposure occurred without a condom to be a failure."

No, it will probably become an issue for the industry if they find they are unwittingly passing along a deadly disease.

Damn, that is one amazing sentence though. Taking a situation where some stupid bastard threatens the health of possibly hundreds of people down the line by his own moronic actions, and somehow twisting it into a random slap at Ashcroft...head-shakingly incredible.

A more interesting question arises from the potential OSHA involvement with the porn industry...

I'll find it later, but the area where OSHA has jurisdiction involves providing protection for employees where the risk of blood borne infection is present.

Now, does that have any potential to also apply to blading (wrestling) when performing in CA?

Interesting point. In BBall and other sports, if you are actively bleeding you're not on the field of play. OSHA has jurisdiction in this area.

But it doesn't apply to boxing.
