It had to happen eventually.

This is probably not good for the industry at all.

Eventually? It's already happened before. Didn't Holmes die from AIDs related stuff?

I am pretty sure that people who are found to have HIV are banned by most American companies.

Gee maybe this could spur industry regulation? External or internal, neither would be bad.

I think that Holmes contracted HIV after making some gay porn in his darker times.

Holmes only made one gay movie, but it's rumored at the worst of his addiction he may have slept with a few rich men (although that's never been confirmed). And he only slept with a couple of actresses (Cicione, Tracy Adams and possibly Amber Lynn), all of whom immediately left the business.

What makes this one so scary is the numbers of first and second generation lines involved. Not to mention Laura (Roxx, who was confirmed as testing positive late last night, had just done her first double anal scene with Darren) is only 18, which makes the story even sadder.

Ashcroft has already committed millions to going after the mainstream porn industry... this couldn't possibly be happening at a worse time. A couple of more positive tests and this story is going to explode.

*crosses fingers hoping Sean Michaels is negative*

God, what a moron... it's dumb enough to go bareback in the States, where the majority of the porn stars (or their bosses) are smart enough to keep an eye on this crap, but to do it in Brazil? Considering some of the stuff that comes out of there, I'd be afraid to get within five feet of their porn stars without a hazmat suit.

According to an article in Details a month or two ago, the CDC is reporting that about 99% of cases of males' "heterosexual" contractions from women were lies. Women hetereosexual contractions were due to guys having risk factors--anal sex with men or IV drug use.

They say that it is extremely hard for a man to catch the virus from a woman. Supposedly, unprotected, your odds are 1: 500,000. With a condom-- 1: 50,000,000.

They go on to talk about the studriness of the vaginal versus the fragility og the anus, etc. It was an interestign read.

First, I wonder what the odds (of a man getting it from a woman) are in "First World" countries where homosexuality isn't demonized? Where there are less closeted homosexual who are married/involved with women and doing things with men on the side?

Second, it's time to accept the sex industry as part of the culture instead of trying to deny it. That would help clean up a lot of the risks these people face. Somehow I think there will be a Black President in the United States before the country accepts the sex industry.

Actually it's amazing that this doesn't happen more often. The bigger companies are so corporate now that they have to much to lose by not monitoring their stars closely. That doesn't mean one won't slip through the cracks every now and then. We still get race car drivers that die in crashes and football players that lose feeling in their limbs no matter how many safeguards are taken.

It's the backyard companies that I wonder about, who knows what safeguards a lot of them take. Then again I also wonder where all the girls come from that I see in all this porn.

But like you touch on, in porn that's a moot point because so many of the girls are doing anal scenes. It's not that it's passed easier from male to male than male to female, it's that the anus is a FAR more vulnerable area of the body than the vagina.

Well crap, so much for trying to get a second job ...

I think porn is here to stay ... it's been in our society for decades ... Ashcroft should worry about focusing all the money he's prepared to spend trying to wipe it out on things like education ...

Not to defend the porn industry but they have a very rigorous testing program. Are they concerned about their "actors"? Of course not, but HIV is bad for business and pure and simple this is a business.

It's a sad day in health news when porn stars get better testing than Major League Baseball players.

That is SO true and it made me laugh out loud. I also got a chuckle out of the newsy graphic the AVN is using:

I heard somewhere (if I had a source I'd post it) that there are different strains of the HIV Virus. One of them in Australia and New Zealand that are weakened versions of the virus. The other being the African strain, which has a great transmissability through vaginal sex (Though the greater societal disapproval of homosexuality may be the more correct cause).

Again, I am not 100% sure as to this, but I've been told by several people active in the local chapter of the HIV Alliance, and I read an article towards that end. Of course consensus doesn't make something right.

I'll help verify you a little (I'm in the field of pharmacology). While I am not sure that some viruses are transmitted better through a certain style of sex, I can verify there are a lot of different strains of the virus. HIV mutates at a pretty rapid rate. This is the biggest reason it is so hard to treat, you may develop a treament for a strain, but one single amino acid mutation makes the treatment useless. Ironically, the initial form of the virus was much worse than the current state the problem is with constant mutations, it is very hard to treat HIV because new strains form so rapidly, and with new strains comes resistance to old treatments.

I have been somewhat keeping up with this story and I still haven't seen any names being thrown out. Who was it that tested positive?

Also, doesn't it take a while for the bug to show up? Couldn't these people have had it for a while and just not know it?

I wonder how if internet porn people get tested as regularly as ones in the biz, cause there seems to be way more internet porn out there then regular porn, and from most of what I've seen, they don't usually use protection.

Darren James and Laura Roxx are the only ones verified to be HIV-positive so far, that I know of, but they have a list of like 80 people that have been in contact with them or with someone that's been with them in the last three weeks or so.

And how many have those 80 been in contact with....and then those people....wow, it's really mind-boggling to consider the effects this could have on the industry.

You know... you really want to feel sorry for these people, and think that despite the rigorous testing and AIDS education that something like this may occasionally happen.

Then you see a headline like this:

Lara Roxx: 'I thought porn people were the cleanest people in the world.'

Not surprisingly, she also thinks that no one is less likely to steal from you than crackheads or politicians.
