Now, I've only spoken to two in the last year. But both of them were trashing it and saying that they don't watch it much anymore. Interestingly, both of these guys had the same reason.

One of them said "It's just bloody WCW now. They've got all these WCW guys everwhere, now there's all these ECW guys" That was around September last year.

The other guy said that "They should have stopped with the Dudley Boys" in terms of bringing in guys from WCW and ECW.

Do y'all think that maybe the lack of WWF identity is to blame for the drop in ratings?

I mean, I know I was happy to see all the WCW/ECW guys go after Survivor Series even though I like them all and they only stayed gone for a couple weeks.

I think that even if the WWF was putting on the best tv they have ever done the ratings would still be falling. They were pulling phenomenal numbers for the longest time for the numbers to shrink a bit. Look at Survivor. It was the most popular show on tv for the longest time, now it's pulling the third or fourth highest rating of the week. Much like the WWF, people just got sick of it. Both shows are still pulling great numbers though.

Thats a good point about Survivor, MotP. Maybe apart from the fact it's not their best TV output ever, it's also still too similar a product to what was getting a hell of a lot of ratings just a couple of years back. It's time for the next evolution of the business to make it into something different, and since I'm feeling blindly optimistic this morning, maybe the split offers the WWF just the chance to do something different. I hope they do.

I have to laugh so about the smart remarks commenting on this becoming WCW or ECW.

Let me count the number of wrestlers currently in WWF who originally started, as a major leaguer, in WWF:

The Rock
Maven (Maven's hardcore!! Maven's hardcore!!)
Kurt Angle
Hardy Boyz
Mark Henry
Trish Stratus
Mr. Perfect
Kane

That's about it. Probably a couple of more.

Everyone else either started in WCW (HHH, Jericho, Austin, Nash, Big Show, Farooq, Undertaker, The Radicalz, and especially Flair), AWA (Hogan and Hall) or ECW (Dudleyz, Lita, RVD).

This may not be exactly the place for it, but did anyone else get a little jump when they saw Booker T vs. Tajiri? I mean, yeah Hogan/Rock big match history icons and all that, but who a year ago would have thought they'd see Tajiri wrestling Booker T? A bit of unreality there, I think....

From the "not to be nitpicky" department...

I remember seeing Curt Hennig in the AWA as a top heel and having a lengthy run at the AWA title.

He was also a major face before that.

Wasn't Kane in ECW too, as Unabomb?

Uh, what about Val Venis, Edge, Christian, Al Snow (was in the WWF before WCW), Test, Billy Gunn, Scotty, Albert, Rikishi, X-Pac, and Bradshaw (to name but a few)? And a lot of the wrestlers you listed may have competed in other companies previously, the WWF is the company that made them into stars. So the whole exercise is pretty pointless.

"Yeah they got all these WCW guys everywhere!"

Might be translated to mean:

"They brought in all the sucky WCW guys that drove
us away from WCW. They didn't bring in and push
the big guys instead we got the crap that drew 2.0
ratings like Booker T, Lance Storm, etc. And the
nWo looks weak and pathetic now. This sucks!"

I'd say there were money matches to be had with
Diamond Dallas Page. What did ruining Page's heat
accomplish anyway? Taker got nothing from it. Now he's
not even the pseudo-biker tough guy with the hot wife.
He's just some geek. How does the WWF do it? I think
Page has enough to overcome it, although he might be a
manager by then.
