I have seen some pathetic things in my years as a hockey fan. I thought it would be a while before someone would match Mike Ribeiro's stunt from two nights ago, but there it is just one game later...

I've been cheering for the Habs in this series, but if these guys are going to be pulling this kind of crap then they don't even deserve to be in the playoffs. What Kovalev took tonight was a little love tap, and he sold it like when Mario got his wrist broken in the 92 playoffs. It looks great on him that it put his team behind the 8-ball, although it's unfortunate that this one clown who was supposedly brought in to help the team win has probably ruined things for other 20 guys who have been there all year long.

Kovalev's coach and teammates (well, at least Souray) have turned on him already. It'll be interesting to see what's being said in the morning. The Montreal media is not friendly when it comes to people screwing up their hockey team.

For those who are confused, a Bruin gave Kovalev a little slash. Kovalev sold it like he'd gotten shot, bumped into Souray...and that took BOTH of them out of the play. A Bruin snatched up the puck and scored, giving the Bruins the win.

Simply put, if Kovalev hadn't gone all dramatic...les Canadiens had a definate shot at winning. Then again, blowing a two-goal lead isn't exactly the best way to get ahead...

Not just any Bruin, that was Glen MUTHERFUGGIN' Murray scoring that winning goal, son.

Hey, Jamie, don't you know someone who used to date him?

Kovalev's stunt was so asinine, even Melrose was all over him about it. Andy Brickley on the NESN broadcast got it right - when you're playing playoff hockey and it's OT, you suck it up even if you're really hurt.

In seeing the play, all Kovalev had to do was give the puck a little tap with his stick to place it over near the boards, then he could've done his little dramatic piece and nothing would've come of the situation.

What an idiot...

(ObFullDisclosure: I'm a huge Habs fan)

When I saw the play at full speed I was like, "WTF!!@#$ That was a huge slash! The play should be called back!"

And then I saw the replay and was forced to admit that the "slash" was little more than a love tap.

*sigh*

Frankly, Montreal shouldn't have been in overtime to begin with. Their Keystone Kops-like inability to clear the zone in the second period led to the second Boston goal. And the third Boston goal? The one with 22 seconds left? Dont even get me started.

I have both Ribeiro and Kovalev in my pool and I want to take their points away, I'm that appalled. To suddenly stop playing in double-OT...I don't understand that at all. Look at Craig Conroy or Darcy Tucker's face. Do they stop playing?

Tucker is usually the one doing the slashing/diving/complaining. Bad example there...

I've been a Bruins fan since before all you guys were born. I was 12 the last time they won the Cup. Don't defrost that bird until they win all four games that are necessary for a series to be considered over. If anyone can lose a 3-1 series lead, it will be Boston.

I don't think it's a bad example. I'm referring to the fact that Tucker has two black eyes and I don't know that he even missed a shift. Whether you like him or not, he knows how to cowboy up and play through the pain.

If it was Tucker that got slashed on the wrist, even if the wrist had been broken, he would've done something. I agree with The Goon...

Most likely is that he falls on the puck, holding his wrist...

The karma hit the Habs straight in the face on this night didn't it? Well first off all signs made it seem like an exaggeration Kovalev which is really dumb on his part. Boston just got a overtime penalty 5 minutes before this and thinking the refs will call two penalties on a team in such a short period of time in overtime is just not knowing how the refs mindset in overtime... But of course it would be really ironic if Kovalev did indeed get a stinger and hurt when he got tapped on the hand and the ref's ignored as they thought back to two nights ago when Ribeiro pulled his act of rolling & convulsing on the ice like he was The Rock selling buh gawd Stone Cold Stunner and then being a total idiot & stop selling it after the whistle was blown.

Oh BTW, Coach's Corner was classic the day after as Grapes showed Ribeiro clip and then showed a clip from a soccer game as a Brazil player gets a ball softly kicked to his knee then the delayed reaction of him grabbing his face and rolling on the grass selling a major face injury, HAHA... The thing is when I saw Ribeiro at Game 3 I was actually concerned wondering "What's wrong with him". That has to stick with Ribeiro for while, I'm guessing.

Kov did the same thing in the 1995 playoffs versus Quebec but in that game he got the call and almost the same amount of outrage from the fans & media - his soccer-like overreaction was no surprise to this Rangers fan - that said, you can't blow a two goal lead at home in the playoffs.
