After watching the Bruins and Canadians game tonight, I have a question. I am pretty sure that NESN didn't air any commercials during either of the OT periods. (At least I think so; I sat with an empty beer, wanting to get a new one, but didnít want to leave while the game was on). Is this something new from the NHL, or just the station?

Did any Montreal Canadian fans watching on their local sports channel (TSN?) see any commercials during OT?

It was kind of strange, but the first OT period went by really fast (with some great action!). Which, of course, is very nice, except for the empty beer. :)

Yep...you are right...no commercials in OT.

Reason behind it, how do you sell promo spots to a period of hockey that may or may not exist????

That is a valid point, but this isnít the first year of playoff hockey. The show that is preempted for the OT had ad space purchased. So, why not use the OT space for those ads? They didnít pay for OT hockey, but where else would you put them? Itís not like you can just put all the leftover ad space in a spot where another show should be aired in.

I guess my question to you is, being from Canada, is OT hockey always commercial free?

Edit: After rereading his post, I think my question has been answered. It is that I have never seen commercial free hockey before tonight. I like it.

Yeah it has always been that way. It helps the younger teams because there isnt a 2 minute time out every 5 minutes.

That's a decent point, I'd imagine a more youthful team/ players would have more in the tank when overtime comes around. As older teams might really need that 2 minute break three or four times a 20-minute period... Who really gets the advantage in overtime is the teams with the most depth. If someone is playing 30-minutes during regulation they'd be spent if overtime goes awhile. But if during regulation you role out 4 lines and have confidence in your 5/6 defensemen you're in much better shape as your going into the 100th minute of play (ie double overtime)
