It has been confirmed that Tim Story (Barbershop, Taxi) is directing the upcoming Fantastic Four movie. Fox is trying to get Micheal Chiklis (The Sheild) in as the Thing, and Tim Robbins as Dr. Doom.

After the awesome job he did as Hellboy, I'm really surprised that no one's looking to Ron Perlman to play The Thing.

Tim Robbins as Dr. Doom? YIKES! That's surprising, to say the least. If you want badass, dictator material, I would look elsewhere. As cliche as this choice may sound, why not go with Christopher Walken?

Is anyone else worried that with Story at the helm, this movie is going to be a lot more comedic than your usual super-hero movie? Especially with the casting of Robbins as Dr. Doom....that just doesn't fit. I would see Robbins as Reed Richards before I'd see him as Doom.

Actually, if he hadn't already had a major role in a Marvel flick, I'd say to put Willem Dafoe as Reed Richards. Although I'd also go to bat for Chris Cooper, who I think would nail it depending on which way they want to go with that franchise (they can either give it just a touch of camp or go for the as-scripture comic movie)

EDIT: Because you have to remember, that there were some aspects of the comic that WERE a bit on the campy side.

Robbins as Victor von Doom? I wish it weren't so. Doom needs to be an evil bad-ass. Nothing about Tim Robbins says that to me. He's at least a better choice than Jude Law, who was originally mentioned for the part...

As for Reed and Johnny, I would like to see George Clooney and Paul Walker, respectively. Clooney's voice just seems perfect for Mr. Fantastic. As for the lovely Sue Richards, I'd go for Laura Linney. Rowwwr. Chiklis is a great pick for Ben Grimm, though!

No no no. John C. Reilly as The Thing. Clooney as Reed works, or even Robbins as Reed, which may be the case if the website got their wires crossed. They could have a push and go for Charlize Theron as Sue, which would do wonders for their cred as they could boast two 2004 Oscar winners as part of their cast. And Jake Gyllenhaal as Jonny.

Robbins could pull off a decent Doom, I believe. Go watch Addison Road. However, my top pick as Doom would have to be Alan Rickman. He can pull off the unknown eastern European accent excellently. Jeremy Irons would be a good idea too.

It's actually a bit worse than that. Just last summer, Marvel fired the FF comic's writer, Mark Waid, because he was writing the comics in the classic "comedic team faces cosmic enemies, explosions ensue" method, and they wanted him to shift his style to one more befitting the upcoming film--"less cosmic foes, more comedic home life."

I originally wasn't giving it much thought, but with the hiring of freakin' Tim Story to direct...

I'll admit that Robins doesn't have the look to play Doom, but he's a hell of an actor, so as long as he stays under the mask I think he can do it.
