Benoit: Triple H takes his turn By TIM BAINES, Ottawa Sun
First, Triple H tapped out to Chris Benoit at Wrestlemania XX. Then Triple H was pinned by Shelton Benjamin on last Monday's RAW. A real shocker. Especially from a guy who, it was said, wouldn't put other wrestlers over. So much for backstage politicking.
Despite rumours that Triple H (Paul Levesque) calls the shots, Benoit says what you read is often untrue.
"Some of the stuff on the Internet, it's funny," said Benoit on the phone the other day. "A lot of it is just rumours ... like the National Enquirer ... like a baby being born on a UFO. Some of it is so far from what's going on.
"I could walk through the airport and trip on my shoelace and by the time it gets out, the story is Chris Benoit was drunk in the airport.
"This is a very unique industry. To understand it, you really have to be there.
"Triple H had never tapped out. I made him tap out at Wrestlemania. Then he gets pinned by Shelton Benjamin. It's good for business."
Benoit says the ecstasy of winning the world heavyweight title at Wrestlemania still hasn't fully sunk in.
"I'm still riding that wave," said Benoit. "Right after Triple H tapped and the bell rung, it was like 18 years flashed before my eyes ... being in Stu Hart's dungeon, Japan, Mexico, ECW, WCW and WWE. The whole road just flashed in front of me.
"It's been a good experience. I'm trying to take my time to represent the title the best that I can. In different companies that I've worked for, the champions didn't act the way I thought they should act. From the moment I open my hotel room in the morning to the moment I close it at night, I am representing the WWE title."
A great accomplishment for a hard-working Canadian kid.
"When I started wrestling, the only TV wrestling we got was Stampede Wrestling. I just wanted to wrestle for Stu Hart. I thought if I could make it there, that would be my dream come true. But here I was at Wrestlemania XX, Madison Square Garden, from one end of the universe to the other."
Benoit, who's suffered his share of aches and pains over the years, says the in-ring adrenaline rush is a quick fixer-upper.
"A lot of times you get hurt in the ring and you don't feel it because of the adrenalin," he said. "I feel the energy of the people. You don't feel the things that happen to you.
"I love what I do. This is my passion. I truly hope all of my children can find that kind of passion in whatever they choose to do."
"Like a baby being born on a UFO" ... Hah! That's a pretty good line; I might have to steal it.

Scherer will run any 'inside' story he gets and the rest of the net will devour it, despite the fact that the story can be riddled in bias or just plain untrue. I'm sure some of the WWE locker room have rung up with a complete BS rumour just to fuck around with the net, and we are easy prey for it too. I believe Meltzer and Keller have some credentials, but they are the closest thing to proper journalists we have and no one else is even close. | BigVitoMark

leggo: Of course they've made up stories to mess with the net...how long ago was it that Orton and Jindrak staged that "parking lot brawl" just to see how far the story would get? I can't really blame them, if I were in their position I'd do the same thing.
Until I read it from Meltzer, I don't consider it news. Scherer is useless, his stories seem to be 90% conjecture most of the time. I don't really have a beef with Keller except for the fact that I can't remember the last time he was the first guy to break a story.

He blew the world away with his casual offhand remark about how Scotty & Keesh were going to defend the tag titles at No Way Out. BEFORE THEY EVEN WON THEM.
Really, though, Wade broke like every story there was to break about WrestleMania this year. That Taker would lose the buried alive match, disappear, and return from the darkside for a match with Kane. That they wanted to do Goldberg/Brock in interpromotional fashion. That it was going to get a 5 hour timeslot and so on and so forth. He was on fire. | Ticamo

| #10 Posted on 18.4.04 1255.10 Reposted on: 18.4.11 1255.13 | I'll go along with the suggestion that a lot of things that are posted on wrestling sites is bull and exaggerated. Hell, I even thought it was funny when Orton and Jindrak had that "fight" with Maven breaking it up, getting the police involved and all... It was funny when we found out that it was all staged.
But, doesn't it make sense that Chris Benoit say what he said in this article. To say that HHH made the business decision, on his own, to tap out to Benoit is kind of like pissing on the fact that Benoit 'beat' HHH... straight up. Benoit HAS to give his win some credit by pissing on internet sites because... well, wrestling sites had/have been pissing on his win. It was like "Yeah! Triple H FINALLY jobbed to someone!! He finally let someone ELSE win!! Yeah!!" | jwrestle

I occationally work for a local indy fed and if funny how all the ego's collide on some backstage stuff. Anyways, like Benoit said, it's good for the business. I don't exactly approve of some of HHH "has done" but he's doing a lot better. He can't stay in the spotlight forever because each day he's one day closer to retirement. Wait, unless he pulls a Ric Flair and wrestles until almost 60 years old.
