| #1 Posted on 1.4.04 2238.03 Reposted on: 1.4.11 2238.24 | The PW Torch website is flooded today with April Fool's stories from readers, and in an amazing coincidence, exactly none of them are funny.
Why oh why do wrestling websites still do the 'fake news story' bit on this holiday? It's stale as all get out. Promote this thread! | | EddieBurkett

/. was unreadable yesterday. You would think that maybe after 3 or 4 they would have gotten the hint that it sucked. | leggo

To be fair, I don't think the goal was to fool the readership as much as it was to come up with the *funniest* stories. | Net Hack Slasher

But when it's the top of every hour a new April fools story it got lame fast... I am waiting for someone at the Torch to accuse WWE for overdoing a joke and dragging it into the ground | Spank E

They almost got me with the "WWE ends use of finishing moves" one, because they used a certain amount of realism and topicism. The rest, as ever, were ridiculous to mind-boggling proportions. | NickBockwinkelFan

Exactly. When you've got 50 improbable stories back to back, you're not going to fool anyone, and when you're not fooling anyone your joke isn't funny in the least. The last time I got fooled by a story like that was in 1998, when I saw a headline saying that Hall and Nash had been granted release from WCW to go back to the WWF. I probably shouldn't have fallen for it, but it was well timed and I did, so kudos to whoever pulled that one. The thing was, it was well times, plausible, and most importantly, the only headline like it.
While we're on it, is it just me, or has the Torch become pretty useless the last few months. They post about a dozen recaps of the major TV shows, Keller's columns are obvious, and their "news" posts, more often than not, are just ads for what they talk about in their VIP section. Not to mention the 1001 popups that has them bordering on 1W territory...I dunno, I used to be a fan, but I find my visits to the Torch are few and far between these days. It's just not worth the time anymore. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
