so i heard the new Oasis single today... it's pretty damn good. granted, i'm a huge, huge Oasis fan - but it has the feel of thier debut album stuff all over it. catchy chorus, driving riff, i think its a big improvement over the last two albums. anybody else heard it yet? or anybody care?

I heard the last minute of it on the radio, and it sounded...well, I couldn't even tell it was Oasis at first. I'll have to listen a few more times before I get a feel for it.

Wow, I can't believe I missed an Oasis thread for this long...

I loved Oasis. Definitely Maybe was one of those albums that came along at the right time growing up-wise if you know what I mean and of course, it had some great songs. They seemed to be phoning it in on Be Here Now though and their bluster didn't help matters either. Claiming to be the best band in the world/since the Beatles then putting out stuff like Be Here Now didn't mesh and they lost a lot of momentum. This all caused Standing On The Shoulders of Giants receiving unfair press in my opinion. I always thought Gas Panic was particularly underrated, it was nice to see they were at least trying to do something different rather than resting on their laurels as in the past.

Anyway, the thread topic at hand! The Hindu Times sounds pretty good, hopefully the developments they started on the last CD will continue on the new album. I think I'm more hopeful now about them than I have been in a while.

I really like the new single Hindu Times. Nice driving guitar riff.

People tend to dog Be Here Now and Standing on the Shoulder of Giants but I tend to think both are really solid albums. They suffer in comparison to Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory, both of which I'd put in the top 30 or 40 albums of the 90's, but both BHN And SOTSOG provide more than enough quality to rise above anything put out by the stagnant rock scene over the past 5 or 6 years. BeHereNow wasn't their best work but it is still utterly listenable.

The new Album Heathen Chemistry hit the net this past week-end. Any of you guys download it? It is pretty good. Not as much of a rocker as some past albums. Hard to believe, but Liam's songs aren't that bad. Songbird is real catchy, and Born on a Different Cloud, while it sounds totally pinched from John Lennon, is good. Stop crying your heart out is a great ballad, hopefully it will be the song to break Oasis big in the states again.

I would try these three places.

Check the peer-to-peer programs. I use WinMx and saw about 100 or so heathen chemistry files on it yesterday. Type in oasis and heathen or heathen chemistry. Also try maybe audiogalaxy. These will probably be your best bet. Websites and ftp's are probably hesitating to host them for fear of Sony Music.

If you are into newsgroups, try alt.binaries.music.oasis or alt.binaries.sound.mp3
Best to have a newsreader that can take multiple posts and assemble them into one file.

I think there are a few places to download it from websites.
there are three songs here http://www.divxsource.com/mp3/
songs 10 and 11 have a few minor skips that are on all copies. or maybe here

NewsGrabber 3.0.34 is a great program for downloading binary files out of Usenet.

It supports yEnc and has multithreaded downloads. That means that if you are like me, on a cable modem, you can download more than one set of articles at a time.

@home used to give me 5 threads, Road Runner gives me 3. I get up to around 300K per second downloads (2400 kilobits per second).

Usenet Rocks

//edit: $25 gets you a registered copy of NewsShark. This is probably the simplest program I have used that supports yEnc. If you are just starting out with Usenet binaries, this is probably the way to go. The down-side is that it only supports one download at a time, and it is significantly slower at decoding yEnc than NewsGrabber. It does a seperate pass to decode the files after it downloads each part, whereas NewsGrabber seems to do the decoding on the fly.

If you just want to read news groups, try out FreeAgent by Forte.
