| #1 Posted on 9.3.04 1516.35 Reposted on: 9.3.11 1517.07 | If the leafs are trying to win a "legends" of hockey stanley cup, they are a shoe in now! The average age of the team went up last week with the trade for Brian Leetch. Now the buds have gone out and aquired 40something Ron Francis.
Francis adds some "vetran game" to a team that has more vetrans than a Columbus, Ohio street corner.
Remeber last year, Doug Gilmour's first shift resulted in a broken hip.
The leafs also got Calle Johannson, another 40ish Defensman who hasn't played an NHL game in quite some time.
Good luck leafs. If you dont win the cup this year, you have NO CHOICE but to rebuild. Half of your roster is retiring.

For a short run to the playoffs, that's a nice little pickup for the Power Play in addition to Leech.
Francis doesn't have to play 20 minutes with this team as deep as it is at the moment. He can work with the #3 or #4 line and be another gun on special teams (the latter particularly, as he's always been good at it).
I'm cautiously optimistic right now...I'm afraid to go overboard yet. | Bullitt

"40something veteran?" Still getting it done, my man. Fourth-overall pick in the *1981* draft.
The most underrated player in the history of the NHL, arguably in all of professional sports.
Here's the problem...
He's now on the fucking Leafs! What am I supposed to do now? Toronto? Of all possible contenders #10 could have been traded to...the fucking Leafs.
How do I continue to be a Senators fan? Anyone? I CAN'T become a Leafs fan...

Ottawa will make it further in the Playoffs then the Leafs, I'd bet the farm on it. | The Goon

Join the dark side, my Calgary brother. Be a Leaf fan. ---- Even if they don't win the cup, I would love to have a team picture of the TML as the team stands now. Ron Francis in a Leaf uniform is enough to make the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
Another reason I'm happy with the Leafs' makeup right now is that they, and probably Detroit, are the only teams with an average age older than me. I need these guys around to make me feel young. | Bullitt

My brother-in-law said the EXACT same thing!
If nothing else, this should get Francis some much-deserved publicity here at the end of his career. That will make me happy. | cfgb

1 - Ron Francis is there.
2 - Management pissed me off by trading Francis for NEXT TO NOTHING.
It's not easy cheering for a team that's always rebuilding...especially when it's not so much rebuilding as blatantly stripping the team. | | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
