EDIT FOR DETAILS: More than eight minutes into the third period, Bertuzzi clearly telegraphs taking out Steve Moore by dropping his stick, pinning his right arm from behind, punching him from behind and falling right on top of Moore's head as he's falling to the ice. Moore was hauled out via stretcher.
I don't think I've EVER been this pissed after an Avs game.

My fandom probably won't help my case but Moore's hit on Naslund was hardly intentional in my book. And at least Naslund got up, whereas Moore is very lucky to be alive after having a 240-lb douchefuck fall right onto his head.

I'm sure Bertuzzi just wanted to give him a shot to the face, which does happen all the time. He was still wearing his glove and everything. Maybe he underestimated his own strength? Moore knew he was there, didn't know the punch was coming and Bertuzzi deserves a lengthy suspension.
All those other players dogpiling on him didn't help matters either.
Again, I'm not defending Bertuzzi in the least but I'm just saying that it may end up being one of those situations that looked a lot worse then what actually happened. I HOPE for all involved that that's the case here.
We just gotta wait and see how Steve Moore is. | raygun

Oops . . . I could have sworn I saw Tocchet's bald head peeking over the glass, too. Either way, Crawford should be ashamed of himself and his team.
On the subject of Steve Moore - After seeing the guy clutch and grab and yap all game against the Flames on Sunday, I can't say I'm a fan. However, no one deserves to be suckered in the back of the head.
Tonight's game gave me a scary flashback to May 1993 - When Kevin Stevens took a vicious elbow to the head against the Isles and was knocked unconscious, before falling down and smashing his face into the ice. Sickening. | Big Bad

The lockout won't happen until September, and there are still 13 games left in the season, so its not really a moot point.
As for the hit, even as a Canucks fan I was appalled. Bertuzzi is a player who is fueled by emotion and occasionally does stupid things, but this was beyond the pale. Although I don't believe he intended to drive Moore's face into the ice, the act of holding his arm and suckerpunching him (which clearly KO'd the poor kid) was so far removed from appropriate as to be ridiculous. I expect Bert to get at least 10 games, and likely the rest of the season.
I understand that Moore was taken to VGH and that when he arrived he didn't know his name or where he was. I hope he make a full recovery...
And Tocchet was giving it to the Canucks' bench pretty good, as of course was Granato

| #16 Posted on 9.3.04 1400.48 Reposted on: 9.3.11 1401.18 | I live in Vancouver and was out last night during this incident. I was even more sickened at the assholes who were cheering Berttie for what he did. I wanted nothing more then to cap those fans as well as Berttie himself. I also had the joy of being here when McSorley capped Brashear in the head with his stick and I get the feeling that there will be a lot of reference made back to that hit.
There is no excuse in ANY sport to take advantage of another player in that manner. Had Moore's hit on Naslund ACTUALLY BEEN DIRTY, then the league would have taken appropriate action and he would have been punished but it was a clean hit on a guy with his head down. Had Naslund not been wearing one of those half-shields...which I know from experience tend to jam into your face when you get hit...he wouldn't have had a scratch and prolly would have been back that same night. Berttie's hit was a dirty disgusting attack on a guy who couldn't even SEE him let alone have a chance to defend himself...I hope Berttie gets the fucking book thrown at him and that it makes him bleed like a stuck pig!!
Bullshit like this turns fans, who have enjoyed this game all their life, away in disgust.
Cheers,

Yup. He was an assistant with the Wings from 1985 to 1990 and then an assistant with the Rangers from 1990 to 94. He was then promoted to head coach (after Keenan left) in 1994/5 and lasted until 1998.
Campbell was also an NHL player from 1975 to 85 with the Pens, Rockies, Oil, Canucks and Wings.
He's now the NHL's VP of Discipline (or whatever his exact title is) | tarnish

| #19 Posted on 9.3.04 1735.19 Reposted on: 9.3.11 1735.54 | I thought Moore's hit on Naslund was a guy taking advantage of a sudden opportunity to lay a lick on a star player. I didn't think it was dirty inasmuch as lots of players would have taken the same opportunity. There was elbow to head contact, surely, but nothing like one of Messier's flying forearms of old.
What Bertuzzi did went way beyond the line. He was obviously trying to get Moore to go, but couldn't do it; Moore probably didn't like his chances against a guy who outweighed him by 40 pounds and had righteous indignation on his side. Bertuzzi was cruising at 10-15Km/h, hauled off with a huge roundhouse that Moore never saw, and then landed bodily on him. That's an attack.
You can argue as the day is long about whether the landing on top part was intentional or not. The simple fact is, just by throwing a huge sucker punch to the back of another player's skull, Bertuzzi exhibited behavior that cannot be tolerated in the a league where the players are expected to respect each other despite high-running emotions. I think the punishment should be severe: suspension for the rest of the season and the playoffs. | wordlife

As terrible as this sounds, karma is a bitch. It goes back to the old saying where "If you do something bad (what he did to Naslund was a wussy move), expect to get it back twofold", well Moore did.
And I can't stand people saying Bert is a pussy. From any game I have seen, he will stand toe-to-toe with anyone. I think his intention was to goad Moore to fight him, which Moore wouldn't do (b/c he knows Bert would mop the floor with him), Bert, being the hothead that he is, him him the wrong way and then fell on him (Bert really looked like he tried to stop himself). Bert has a reputation for being a hothead, well Moore pissed off the wrong person, that is what usually happens to loudmouth, cheapshotting people like Moore. Moore wrote a check that his ass couldn't cash sadly.
Think of it this way before you condemn this... You have a buddy who is quiet & intelligent (think Naslund), some asshole (think Moore) comes up and starts picking on him when everyone knows this kid isn't a fighter. Now your quiet buddy gets cold-cocked randomly by the guy when he was trying to walk away from the fight. You are saying that none of you wouldn't be on that asshole like a fly on shit? Please....
Is what Bert did right? No. Did Bert purposely mean to hurt Moore? Yeah, but not to the extent that he did. Bert should be suspended for the rest of the season (including the playoffs) if you ask me but as Chris Rock said "I don't think what he did was right, but I understand (why he did it)" (referring to OJ)
This is another reason why I am in support of contracting the league, because muckers/clutch-n-grabbers like Moore will be back in the "A" where they belong.
