Sportsline.com's Jay Glazer is reporting the Ravens get Owens, and the Niners get the 51st pick in this year's draft. Wow, he came pretty cheap.

http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/7142347

This should at least provide for some good Billick/Owens soundbites.

Damn. One of the league's most exciting players on one of the most boring teams...well, if you don't count the murder trials and drug indictments (on-field, is what I meant).

It wouldn't be boring if they'd just put a mic on Ray Lewis for every game.

It was a Saturday TV Funhouse on SNL. In order to make Ray Lewis more fan friendly after the Ravens' Super Bowl win, Disney was going to do an animated movie on him called "Ray of Light". Clips included Bambi's mom getting shot with Ray jumping into a limo yelling "Oh snap, I didn't see nothing", Ray addressing the pride of female lions from Lion King saying "Ok, we need forget about this Simba sh*t and start worrying about Pittsburgh", and the Beast being stabbed by Gaston with Ray going "Oh man, I didn't see it". This was the best TV Funhouse ever.

Oh, I thought it was Disney apologizing because they had Trent Dilfer do the “We're going to Disney World” line, but then they realized that Trent Dilfer sucks.

That along with the Al Queda TV episode from last season ("You have neglected your 70 virgins") is definitely Top 5.

Owens irked by trade to Ravens

HE'S SEEKING ESCAPE FROM BALTIMORE, VOWING, `I'M GOING TO STAND MY GROUND'

By Daniel Brown

Mercury News

Terrell Owens' penchant for controversy arrived in Baltimore before he did.

A day after the 49ers traded the talented, tempestuous wide receiver to the Baltimore Ravens, Owens indicated Friday that he has no plans to report to his new employer. The four-time Pro Bowl player is angry that a proposed trade to the Philadelphia Eagles fell through, and he implied he would rather fight the trade than put on a Ravens uniform.

``Terrell Owens is kind of unemployed at the moment,'' Owens said on Fox Sports Net's ``Best Damn Sports Show.''

49ers General Manager Terry Donahue acknowledged Friday that he talked with the Eagles about a trade but said the Ravens were in the driver's seat for Owens from the start because they offered the highest draft pick (51st overall). Donahue said he never considered the Eagles' best offer of receiver James Thrash and a fifth-round pick and called the ensuing controversy ``laughable.''

Owens, continuing a longstanding trend, has a different view than the 49ers. On the ``Best Damn Sports Show,'' he said he was ``shocked'' to be sent to Baltimore and said he expressed his reluctance to Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome.

``I've talked to Ozzie a few times the last couple of days. Honestly, I didn't feel comfortable with our conversation,'' Owens said. ``He knows I'm not happy with the situation. I'm going to stand my ground and see if we can't get something resolved.''

He later added: ``I don't want to go anywhere where someone just trades me off to. I feel like I'm entitled as a free agent to have my choice.''

Owens' portrait of himself as a free agent is a curious one, because he and agent David Joseph missed the deadline for filing for free agency, leaving the 49ers in position to trade the receiver.

Owens and Joseph disputed the blown deadline, and Owens said Friday on ESPN that he plans to file a grievance.

A league official requesting anonymity said: ``As far as we're concerned, the trade was made and Owens is a Raven.''

Carl Francis, a spokesman for the NFL Players Association, said: ``When his agent failed to submit the proper paperwork in a timely manner, it put T.O. in a bad position by restricting him. . . . Even if the 49ers had discussions with Philadelphia, they have a right to entertain other trading opportunities.''

Eagles officials sounded annoyed that the 49ers moved so abruptly in their dealings with the Ravens, but announced no plans for recourse.

In a conference call with Bay Area reporters, Donahue delivered a detailed account of the phone calls, offers and counteroffers made to Eagles Coach Andy Reid.

He said he told Reid that an undisclosed team had offered a second-round pick. When the Eagles countered with a fifth-round pick and Thrash, Donahue said he dismissed it instantly. He later called Reid trying to work out a deal for players -- not draft choices -- but those talks also went nowhere. After that, Donahue said, ``I told Andy that we were going to work quickly and that if he had any interest to call me back fast.''

Donahue soon called the Ravens to accept their offer.

The Ravens, meanwhile, await their reluctant superstar. Owens was scheduled to have a physical and be introduced by the Ravens today, but that was postponed until next week because ``we couldn't get him here on time,'' team spokesman Chad Steele said.

Steele was aware of reports that Owens is unhappy.

``We've heard that,'' he said. ``But he's under contract with the Baltimore Ravens.''

I know its probably wrong to say this, but if Owens ruptured his Achilles tomorrow it wouldn't be a shame. Someone needs to tell him he was not a free-agent. That means you don't get to pick the team. Of course, we are probably 72 hours away from T.O. declaring that he is a slave.

Feh. I'm not convinced he'd be worth the hassle of getting into a protracted russle with the Ravens if he's not happy there.

The draft isn't exactly short on talented receivers who we could probably get for a lot less money.

Our priorities for free agency now should be a LB to replace Emmons and at least one veteran CB to offer back up if and when Taylor and Vincent depart.

Agreed. I'm still irked that they let Emmons go, especially to the friggin Giants. Now, that's another spot you need to fill (I was already at the point where I thought Simoneau need to be replaced as well).

As for T.O., antics and all, he's still better than anyone on the current roster, but once his free agent status was revoked, I knew that he wasn't coming to Philly; the 49ers, short of receiving an extremely high draft pick or a Herschel Walker type deal, weren't going to trade him to another NFC team (as is their right) -- any conversation with the Eagles was a smokecreen. The Eagles need to not worry about Owens -- let him fight the battle over this trade, if that's what he wants to do -- and find another receiver somewhere else. I'd advocate trading up to get within range to draft one of these receivers coming out of school. Hell, offer Thrash, Pinkston, and a pick if that's what it takes. At this point, if they started next season with Greg Lewis, Freddie Mitchell, and the kid from UVA (McMullen?), I'd like that better than what the Eagles started last season.

If I were Baltimore, I'd probably try to work something out with Philly. An unmotivated T.O. is a cancer on your team....well, he's probably a cancer in the best of times, but at least he'd be productive.

If the Ravens play the Eagles this year, we might see the first ever in-game NFL heel turn.

And they will. The Ravens have to come to Lincoln this season. Someone needs to get both Ray and TO miked up for that game.

I disagree to an extent on Pinkston. He finished the season pretty well (Championship game excepting) and I really feel he could do a job if he was paired with a genuinely quality receiver regularly.

As it was, he was out there with Thrash for the most part and it was prety easy for teams to focus on him and take him out of the game at times, especially once Westbrook was out.

Mitchell, who appeared to get a lot of praise this year, still drops way too many balls for my liking. He's runs good patterns though and has decent pace so he might be able to step up from his slot role next year.

I don't give 2 hoots what happens to Thrash. The lack of desire he showed, most notably against Carolina but also throughout the season, when he knew making a catch meant taking a hit was embarassing to watch. He did a job for us for a while but his times passed now.

McMullen probably deserves another season to see if he can live up to the early hype, as does Smith who's fast enough to line up outside from time to time which would help make our offense more unpredictable.

Losing Emmons was dumb, especially to the Giants as you say. Ike Reese isn't ready to be a starter and that now leaves at least 2 glaring holes in our D (the second being at CB). We've still got a bunch of cap room but unless we move quickly then there isn't gonna be anyone worth spending it on.

EDIT: After a quick broswe of the UFA's over at nfl.com the only WR that I'd have any real interest in is Darrell Jackson. Godfrey (also Seattle) would be a decent LB but only if he was healthy and could be got back to where he was in his first year or 2 with the Titans.

First NFL Heel Turn ... that's fucking hilarious ...

Hey Grimis, I just curious how you feel about all this garbage with Ownes threatening to sue everybody ... do you really want a guy on your team that doesn't wanna be there? ... T.O. is gonna be the most hated guy in Baltimore before he ever puts on one of their jerseys.
