Besides, Newsom is the one who really needs to go.

New recall targets attorney general By Kate Folmar Mercury News Sacramento Bureau
SACRAMENTO - The people who brought California the recall of Gov. Gray Davis have found a new target for their ire: Attorney General Bill Lockyer and his perceived inaction on the gay marriages occurring in San Francisco.
At a Sacramento strip mall Tuesday, conservative activist Ted Costa and former Republican Assemblyman Howard Kaloogian gathered more than 100 signatures on a petition stating their intention to recall Lockyer.
They need 65 valid signatures to take the first step in the long recall process.
The dust-up involves frustration over the string of gay marriages at San Francisco City Hall and anger that Lockyer is not stopping them, despite the state family code, which defines marriage as between a man and a woman.
San Francisco is trying to overturn state marriage statutes, saying they violate the equal protection clause of the state constitution.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger last week directed Lockyer to enforce state law in San Francisco. Lockyer on Friday plans to ask the California Supreme Court to rule on the legality of same-sex marriages.
But that was too little, too late for Sacramento resident Bill Quaglia. He was one of the first to sign the petition.
``This is our way of saying: `You will follow our mandates. We put you in office,' '' he said.
Schwarzenegger -- the beneficiary of the state's last recall -- expressed hesitancy on the attempted ouster.
``I think that we should give Bill Lockyer the chance to straighten out the mess,'' Schwarzenegger told reporters in New York, where he was attending a fundraiser.
Kaloogian acknowledged that ousting the attorney general would be unnecessary if Lockyer acts to stop the marriages.
Lockyer called the effort to recall him ``a publicity stunt.''

This was such a waste of taxpayer money and, in the sickening amount of debt that California's in, I can't believe they'd throw another few millions away on an Attorney General that won't act against GAYS AND LESBIANS!

| #8 Posted on 29.2.04 2238.20 Reposted on: 1.3.11 0001.27 | Personally I don't mind the recall process so much. It's hard to get the signatures to have a recall so it doesn't happen all that often. Davis's recall was something of a fluke - because hardly anyone voted in the '02 election (voters hated all the candidates) it was just possible to gather the necessary signatures. Schwartzenegger would never have survived a California Republican primary because the right-wing ideologues dominate these and he turned out to be a wildly popular choice of the electorate.
In soe ways I PREFER the Recall process to the usual one. More people got involved and we got a better slate of candidates (ignoring the vanity candidates at the bottom) to pick from. Voters felt like their votes mattered for once. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
