I think this is another great move by Darryl Sutter. Let's just show what he's done since being made Flames GM:

Steve Begin's Flames stats:
1997-98: Pointless in 5 games
1999-00: 1 goal, 1 assist in 13 games
2000-01: Pointless in 4 games
2001-02: 7 goals, 5 assists in 51 games
2002-03: 3 goals, 1 assist in 50 games
Begin was never more than a fourth liner who got third line duty when somebody got injured. He was a helluva checker, though, and was the Calder Cup MVP in the AHL when the Saint John Flames went the distance in 2001. | JoshMann

But I guess that's just me and the fact that I always liked the sparkplug players as much if not more than the superstar players. Probably because I had to be the scrappy type to do anything productive in youth league.

Whoever finishes first gets one of the top two seeds, while whoever finishes second in the division ends up fourth and faces the fifth place team. What does this all mean? Well, there's two likely scenarios:
Colorado [1st in Div., 1st/2nd in Conf.]
Vancouver [2nd in Div., 4th in Conf.]
Calgary [3rd in Div., 5th in Conf.]
And Calgary plays Vancouver
OR
Vancouver [1st Div, 1st/2nd Conf.]
Colorado [2nd Div, 4th Conf.]
Calgary [3rd Div., 5th Conf.]
And Calgary plays Colorado

My boss at work is a huge Canucks fan, and he's terrified that they might end up facing the Flames in the first round.
With the kind of fight that Calgary would have from being in their first playoff round in 68 years, added to the level of work that Sutter demands every game, plus Mikka still doing well, they're for sure one of those teams that could take the first couple games in a series without you even knowing what was happening.

Colorado can't beat anybody lately, and if you consider Calgary's goaltending, Nashville's recent hot streak, and St. Louis' talent on paper that conference really could go any number of ways.
