I think this is another great move by Darryl Sutter. Let's just show what he's done since being made Flames GM: TO CALGARY: D Rhett Warrener, C Steve Reinprecht, RW Matt Davidson, LW Josh Green, LW Krzysztof Oliwa, D Jesse Wallin, G Miikka Kiprusoff, LW Lynn Loyns, G Davis Parley & LW Ville Nieminen TO ELSEWHERE: C Steve Begin [Buf], C Chris Drury [Buf], Conditional 2005 Draft Pick (2nd or 3rd round) [SJ], Futures [SJ], C Jason Morgan [Chi] & Conditional Draft Pick [Chi]
Kiprusoff & Warrener have been fantastic. I'm still wondering how much of an impact Nieminen will have, but some new blood will help take the scoring load off of Iginla. | Promote this thread! | | Dave Gagnon

Maybe that's why Montreal defeated Calgary last week :-) | Freeway

Steve Begin's Flames stats: 1997-98: Pointless in 5 games 1999-00: 1 goal, 1 assist in 13 games 2000-01: Pointless in 4 games 2001-02: 7 goals, 5 assists in 51 games 2002-03: 3 goals, 1 assist in 50 games
Begin was never more than a fourth liner who got third line duty when somebody got injured. He was a helluva checker, though, and was the Calder Cup MVP in the AHL when the Saint John Flames went the distance in 2001. | JoshMann

But I guess that's just me and the fact that I always liked the sparkplug players as much if not more than the superstar players. Probably because I had to be the scrappy type to do anything productive in youth league.

Whoever finishes first gets one of the top two seeds, while whoever finishes second in the division ends up fourth and faces the fifth place team. What does this all mean? Well, there's two likely scenarios:
Colorado [1st in Div., 1st/2nd in Conf.] Vancouver [2nd in Div., 4th in Conf.] Calgary [3rd in Div., 5th in Conf.] And Calgary plays Vancouver OR Vancouver [1st Div, 1st/2nd Conf.] Colorado [2nd Div, 4th Conf.] Calgary [3rd Div., 5th Conf.] And Calgary plays Colorado
And for the record, the best "spare part" player EVER was Ron Stern. | Tribal Prophet

My boss at work is a huge Canucks fan, and he's terrified that they might end up facing the Flames in the first round.
With the kind of fight that Calgary would have from being in their first playoff round in 68 years, added to the level of work that Sutter demands every game, plus Mikka still doing well, they're for sure one of those teams that could take the first couple games in a series without you even knowing what was happening.

Colorado can't beat anybody lately, and if you consider Calgary's goaltending, Nashville's recent hot streak, and St. Louis' talent on paper that conference really could go any number of ways.
Then again, with four points separating 1-6 in the East, you could say the same about both conferences. | | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
